Thanks so much for your in-depth review. We bought ours this week (the VE hybrid model) and I can't imagine our lives without it. We were initially concerned with the energy consumption (so your video helped a lot!) - so far, we're really impressed with the energy-saving vacuum feature - seems so much greener than us boiling a kettle 10x a day!
Glad it helped! Been convincing a family member to get one considering they boil water from a kettle on the stovetop every single day. How can you tell the vaccuum is working? My sister actually has the VE model as well What do you use yours most? And have you discovered new uses for it? I remember doing the calculation for mine which is a non VE model, hydroelectricity is cheap where I live, I had found some information regarding power usage on reddit so I'm not sure about the accuracy, and it came out to a few bucks a month. Either way, I can't imagine a machine boiling then just having minimum heat VS boiling room temp or even cold water several times a week use up MORE energy, logically speaking.
Awesome review, was going to buy a used one on amz for 125$, but then saw one on marketplace for 30$ omg. Bought it right away and works perfectly. Only missing the filter inside, which doesn't look like a big deal, since my water doesn't have scale. I had a boiler under my faucet but it was going bad, splashing water and then realised I was drinking black rusty pieces of metal for a few month, hope I don't get a weird disease from that. The thing is awesome, put it at 195 and tracking electricity to see how much it takes and see if the VE hybrid is worth it. I figure this one will take about 800wh per day and the hybrid 200wh (~16W*10h). So VE hybrid will save 6c per day (I pay 10c/kw) or 20$ per year and it will take 10 years to recoup this saving. But in winter it's heating the house and saving heating energy cost, but not as efficient as my minisplit at a 3:1 ratio, so I'll give a 20% bonus to the 10 years, making it 12 years. But you also have to take into account the opportunity cost of the 100$ price difference if it was invested in market, after 12 years, 100$ will be 200$ after inflation, so I don't think it's ever going to be worth it to by the VE if your electricity cost is like mine. Meanwhile, I'll check on marketplace or somewhere if I can get one under 100$ which might make it effective.
Aesthetically the one in your video looks nicer than any of the other Zojirushi boilers I've seen and in your links. I've always avoided buying one because they look subjectively ugly to me, and haven't been updated in the last 20+ years. I would definitely buy the one in your video if they still had it.

Hey Jess, working on any new coffee vids? I actually got rid of my ECM Synchronika, and thinking of getting the Lelit Bianca. The Synchronika was a tank, but extremely heavy, hard to move around and tall. I'm looking to get the Bianca as it ticks all the boxes, with a smaller profile. I know the build quality is not as good as ECM/Profitec
I have other coffee content in the works, some vlogs, some reviews but I buy all my products myself so I can't exactly be buying coffee machines left and right lol I ain't that rich, so unless someone is gifting me one, I won't have any coffee machines to review any time soon. Though I'm planning on having some sort of membership program like James Hoffman where I would be able to have the resources to review products members would vote on - but that's at a later time.
I think this is really interesting if you drink a lot of tea like the British or just hot water like the Chinese, but waiting 7 hours for the water to boil and cooling down to the selected temperature seems a lot. Also I'd probably buy one of those that let's you choose more accurate temperature steps and only boil the amount you currently need like the one from YumAsia. I think I rather use a kettle for the few times a week I personally need hot water, especially because I also use it to boil water for cooking instead of wasting all that energy on a hob. But I can see how something that kept the temperature basically all day would be useful in a household where people drink multiple cups of tea a day or even in an office.
