Was a game changer for me I stopped getting stuck and blocking it. Plus it’s effortless power which wasn’t an issue but now the speed comes much easier
The key to tommys swing for me is when the left hip goes straight back at the beginning of the downswing . From there you just swing through. I can see it more clearly now from the side. You can see it from videos that show his swing from the rear view , but it’s more obvious from this view. At impact the shoulders are square to the target and the hips are open. Lee Westwood has a similar swing but his backswing is a little flatter. Most people can replicate the backswing but all the magic happens in that downswing. A great teaching video by Tommy which I will definitely work on.
Interesting explanation. Almost every instructor on TH-cam says you should be shifting and turning not just turning. Is this what really happens in his swing or is that just a feel? Anyone??
great video lovely swing. Interestingly, the left leg clearing is something that i have to think about also, but that's more standard. The interesting bit is the right arm bend, I'm reading and trying to follow hogans book and he said that about the right arm but didn't really say why. but Ben hogan did the same thing with his waggle as he said.
This explanation of the hip going back vs sway seems to naturally shallow the club. I've really enjoyed the positive results on my swing from this lesson.
Yes, he is basically saying that at address every shot is played with the ball a bit forward of center. Kinda like Hogan playing every iron shot 2 inches off the inside of his front foot.
I don't know if its feel VS real but having watched several slow-motion swings of Tommy and drawing a vertical line down his center. He gives the impression that his left hip doesn't sway forward, but like all pro-golfers his left hip simultaneously rotates back and shifts laterally forward at the same time. His left side moves through the wall just like every other tour player.
Yup I see this all the time and I think its just the way they communicate the issue makes a whole lot of misunderstandings that set me back a lot. Problem is you arent consciously trying to sway, you focus on the getting the hip back but of course naturally the weight shift forward and hips move forward as the back foot lifts. That's what I learned basically, to not trying to control every movement of the body but rather let the body do its thing while you focus on the movements we do have to control. Its feel vs whats actually happening as you said. Like I heard Tiger say he feels as though his arms are first to move but thats not true of course, the hips move first but the impulse should not be to try to move the hips first consciously but swing the club as Tiger said. Man it took me ages to realize this.
Crazy how you can learn more in a 1 minute video from a pro then all the teachers out there in hours of videos. The term golf “professional” is used very loosely. Guys struggle to break 80 and are out here terming themselves as such
It’s okay to sway towards the target. Tommy doesn’t like it because if shifts his path more degrees in to out which leads to hooks and blocks . But you can overdo good things
I wish tee shirt and shorts was the standard for golf. It's such an athletic sport. Imagine if basketball players were required to wear collared shirts.
My best ball striking is hitting irons in shorts and a tee at the range. Just practicing, getting exercise. My swing dials in and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said god I wish that was on the course.
That clearing of the left hip is so important. Whenever I'm struggling with irons, I'm usually not doing that move very well.
facts, i tend to sway my hip like he was saying.
This also corrects issues with early extension which is a contact killer. It’s a great move
Was a game changer for me I stopped getting stuck and blocking it. Plus it’s effortless power which wasn’t an issue but now the speed comes much easier
Hip goes back, not sway. Need to workon this.
What exactly does clearing the left hip mean?
The sensation of moving the left hip straight back is GOLD!!!
🎉🎉🎉
The part about the hips moving backwards is gold. Thank you.
Tommy your one of the best golfers. Such a gentleman win or loose you always have a smile on your face. Pure class😊
Years of continuing practice and natural talent together makes it all look so effortless..
Always love the short follow through from Tommy, as if he knows he hit it well so job done!
Great vid. More informative 2mins than most I’ve seen on youtube. Thanks.
The hip moving straight back helped tremendously.
Me too, I started doing this last year and have been puring everything. Dont have to stack and tilt for my mid to long irons now lol
It cured me too
Every filming angle choice in this video was wrong for what he was talking about at the time. Great job, TM
On purpose
@@electrica__why would they do that on purpose?
Thank you for this video! I love Tommys swing and could watch him talk about it for hours.
This video helped me start to take divots after the ball and strike it like it should be. Thanks Tommy you’re the man. Cheers from Montana ⛳️ 👍🏻.
Amazing how simple he makes it sound, if only it was that easy to replicate. Love videos like this
Not trying to be weird, but Tommy has thicker legs than I thought he would. Gorgeous swing.
Same lol
Saving this to my “have to try” tips note!!
Love how hes playing/practicing on a beautiful course in shorts and a tee
If you stop the video at 0.03min you'll see what a human spring looks like. Unbelievable! Such a powerful looking swing.
Tommy is class 👌🏻
Pure class lad👌🏽
My son totally digs Tommy's swing. I think the kid knows something I haven't realized.
Thanks for sharing ,Tommy.

This is awesome. We hacks are lucky to get this content!
Woah woah woah finally Taylormade we needed this 🎉
Nicest guy that plays golf I've ever seen

This is awesome! Love Tommy, it is great listening to what he is trying to do!!
Thank you Tommy and TM! always a down to earth cool guy! 😁
Just an absolute ball striking legend with irons

anyone know which course they filmed this on? Gotta be somewhere near Carlsbad, right?
I will say that Mike Malaska's pulley system for the legs helps me with that front hip move of Fleetwood's.
LOL
One of the best swing in the World .. Need a Bit More informations ans what he ins thinking in downswing
This is the guy to listen to if you want to hit your irons better
The left hip moving straight back is a eureka moment.
Could watch that swing all day
Did anyone interpret him saying that he plays every club forward of center (up in stance)? I wonder if that includes knock down shots/flighted shots?
Yes, he is basically saying that at address every shot is played with the ball a bit forward of center. Kinda like Hogan playing every iron shot 2 inches off the inside of his front foot.
Beautiful swing
Just once, I'd like to strike it like Tommy ! What does he mean about losing the left side?
I hit all my irons with the sawn off finish now, it makes me feel like I’m gonna strike it pure every time.
Tommy Rulez 💯
Tom That's very good 😮

Other slow breakdowns of his swing show his hips go forward before he pull his hips.
Love the content guys!
Anyone tell me why im good in iron but not in driver? Im always struggle with driver. Help me guys
Practice, practice, practice and when you think you've practice enough practice some more, practice makes perfect.
Thanks Captain Obvious. 🙂
Love me some Tom Fleetwood.
Superb!
Love the hip move to start the downswing but don't understand the first part of the takeaway. 'Take it inside?'
Can someone explain the holding the left side in more detail?
Hold the left side from sliding back or forward. And hold the chicken! 😊
He look effortless. Nothing fancy
His hip movement is nuts
Great, thanks
Smooth...thats pretty good 😊
What are the shoes? That’s the real question I have!
Why his upper back is so curved? I have the same back but everyone said to me that it is too much and it should be straight.
Crazy how you can learn more in a 1 minute video from a pro then all the teachers out there in hours of videos. The term golf “professional” is used very loosely. Guys struggle to break 80 and are out here terming themselves as such
This is absolute gold
So crispy ❤
Avoiding early extension 👍🏾

nice shot ;-)
Magnificent
So good
'basically i grip it and rip it - and i'm charming'
neat!!! and nice
When will he win?
Mint
Turn and hit
Pretty close to 'stack and tilt'
Not even close.

yes but those shoes are ?
always weird to see golfers in regular clothes...lol more than any other athlete, but this was really cool
Have we all really learned Golf from Tiger? :D
no one has explained the left hip as well as you have
'that's pretty good'
so humble compared to DeChambeau ❤
Trump Jupiter, 13th hole...nice setting!
Ahh yes, good.
Up next have lebron explain how to dunk to me.

Bold of you for saying this. The dress coded people will attack you.

Tournament in just t-shirts and sneakers
Easy money sniper.
This blokes swing is decent. Should think about along it up as a pro
Proof there is a major sway/shift towards target and a turn. th-cam.com/users/shortsf161y7OmVr4
What are these camera angles....absolutely horrible
IN detail in a 1m57s video. This content is rubbish
Useless information to everyone except Tommy 😜😂
Just go watch a Hogan teacher, or Hogan, not Tommy.
Over rated non finisher . Continues to find a reason to lose. This week he has 1 in front , Äberg, but he drops off the leaderboard like a stone.
