    Awesome how you plugged the people you got the ideas from. I frequently watch Engineering Explained and knew instantly that this was likely derived from his style. Props for the plugs.

      For sure! Also, great job on the the videos. They are great! And in case you were wondering, I found your TH-cam channel through a review on Amazon. But there aren't many videos explaining this stuff out there so i'm sure you will be seeing some more traffic!
      Keep up the good work!

      Vortex Radar Also, a good video idea could be characteristics of different bands. Each band in it's own video or all in one.

    Thanks so much for using your time doing what you love and what we also love.

    I'm sure you will be happy to know that after 2 years, people are still viewing this video. Thanks for the great explanation. Now, I'm even more impressed on with how laser jammers work. I thought it actually jammed the response so the gun never received a response back. Laser jammers vary the latency of the "ping" response to make it appear like the car is "rubber banding". very cool!

    Could you not just send out pulses all the time at random? That surely have to upset the laser. I mean just in case? Why wait until it sees an pulse?

    But how does the Jammer thing get into police's lidar gun?

  • @vzr314
    @vzr314 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This kind of jamming in busted long ago. "False" reflection actually fools old laser radar that pulse is reflected by another moving vehicle (radar read same pulse signature, but invalid interval). However, as your graphic shown, first two pulses and reflections left unaffected and that's enough for evaluating velocity with high certainty by modern radar and skilled officer.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In theory, but in practice laser guns require many pulses in series to ensure they have a good lock on a vehicle. Typical acquisition time is around 1/3 of a second and at 200 pps, that’s 67 consecutive pulses.

    I’d like to create my own ‘jammer’ but with a bit of a complicated twist. I am a comp sci student so I have the coding abilities but it seems like there is a lot to take into consideration, and information I may not have readily available. This was a good starting point for me though, thanks. My only question, if you are able to answer, is would the jammer have to take into account the speed of the vehicle that the jammer is connected to?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah fun! There’s multiple jammers that work great without GPS. Knowing their own speed isn’t necessary. :)

  • @demoncrathunter

    Question: I got a speeding ticket for going only 5 mph over the speed limit. More importantly, I was driving on a road that runs right next to and is parallel to a runway at LAX. When I drive down that street, at all times, my laser detector is pinned to like 10. So obviously there is a ton of signals be shot down that street constantly besides the Lidar gun of the officer. He is literally parked directly in front of air traffic control. So isn't it likely that his Lidar gun reads those signals also throwing off the accuracy of his gun. Additionally should he even be operating a LIdar gun in that area and wouldn't he need special permission to do so?

    I think laser jammers struggle to function on time if fitted in the rear of the car ?

  • @agentdark64
    @agentdark64 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Unfortunately if you jam a laser, they will know. It really needs to spoof the actual speed so they won't know a jammer is being used.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s common for people to think that, yeah. The reason it’s not done that way is that thinking misses out on many practical misconceptions and technical challenges. Barring all that, then yeah that’d be great. :)

    What happened if the laser gun send unique/random pattern each pulse? Eg: varying the light frequency; first pulse is red laser, second pulse is blue, third green, next is unknown - or- by modulated each pulse with unpredictable data. The receiver only accept matching pattern and ignore unmatched data. Is it still jammable?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Laser diodes don't have the ability to change their output frequency like that. You don't see many multicolored laser pointers, for example, right? They're always red or green or whatever. The unpredictableness currently is being done by varying the pulse pattern so that the laser jammer doesn't know what's coming next. There are jammers that can handle variable pulse rate lidar guns, but they require more sophisticated jamming algorithms than what I've addressed in this video.

    Hi,
    I’m new to this topic, but is there any device that combines radar and laser detector as well as jamming capability for both?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Radar jamming is incredibly illegal so it’s radar detection and laser jamming.

  • @jamesalderman4162
    @jamesalderman4162 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why couldn't you just transmit broadband noise on the laser band full time and prevent the gun from getting an accurate reading until the last moment? Seems like these transmitting diodes would be built into regular car headlight bulbs.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Laser diodes would overheat and be unable to cope with doing that. Old laser jammers that used brute force techniques that would do what you describe (see my other video on that) had to shut down after transmitting for a few seconds because it puts so much strain on the diodes.

  • @hrldias

    If this simple technique is used by police laser guns to track the vehicle speed, laser jamming device manufacturers can produce much effective devices than just jamming the laser pulses. I mean why can't they send pulses back in such a way that the laser gun to calculate false readings. A vehicle moving at 100kmph can make the cops reading to look like 40kmph. So they need not slow down but just fool the cops device. It would be pretty helpful and creative.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Lakshitha Dias It’s not that simple.

    • @hrldias
      @hrldias 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you. But can u explain why is it that difficult after been able to recognize the laser guns pulse pattern? Just for knowledge.

    • @axelrod21
      @axelrod21 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lakshitha Dias I think it more has to do with the cop know for example as a cop I would know that if some blew past me 100KPH I wouldn't need to know there speed and would go after them and use Radar to clock there speed. It doesn't take a radar or lazer reading above a certain speed.

    • @ROrneli
      @ROrneli 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it could as soon as it determined the algorithms, but cops are pissed enough at jammers as it is, do you really want a case in court where drivers are now not only jamming but fooling laser guns into reading wrong? you are opening a whole can of worms, in addition, how is the laser jammier supposed to know how fast you should be going , I guess you could connect to an app like Waze and show legal speed, but what if it is wrong ? what if the jammer messes up and shows the officer 150 mph instead of 60.
      The magic of jammers is that lidar guns are imperfect devices, some cops rather use radar because of this, it requires perfect aim, and the type of vehicle often times means a delayed lock, I have twice defeated a laser operator because my vehicle is black, has small head lights and it has a round flat hood (2008 honda civic and we have no front plate in florida) so while the officer is standing there trying to get my lock at a far distance my V1 alerted me plenty to slow down, because of this jammers are effective as long as they have JTG sleep mode, if the officer can not get a reading for 4 seconds the officer will assume it is normal for his LIDAR to take a bit longer on some vehicles, when it is a complete JTG it does raise eye brows though

  • @luboslavbujnak2022
    @luboslavbujnak2022 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    so why dont they make a laser jammer that would measure the Hz and send the set speed to mask what you actually doing, lest say 63 mph while you are doing for example 74 that way its a lot less suspicious and you have a better chances of being ignored

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว
