If you get stopped and have laser jammers on your Vehicle is there any laws or regulations regarding them where I can get a summons or my car impounded

      I see your video is 3 years ago, and I finally saw this in my TH-cam feed. So I have to ask this question. When it comes to Lidar, are you allowed to use the devise through tinted glass of a patrol car? Washington State Patrol has unmarked dodge chargers with dark tinted glass and will use Lidargun. My understanding is that vehicles have some polarization auto glass, can thiss affect the lidargun return?

    Only issue I have is trust that the officer is honest, with technology today it should take a photo of the infraction so there is no doubt which car it was. Its sad we cant trust every officer to be truthful about protecting and serving.

    For anyone wondering why he said their patrol vehicles are tested for their speedometer accuracy & that their speedometers are accurate; almost all cars' speedometers show a higher speed compared to how fast you're actually travelling. That's why you should never say how fast you were driving to an officer, because you were probably going 3-4 mph less than what your car showed.

    I just got a ticket for going 79 in a 55
    I was definitely going 70, not 79. Yes, im aware that is still speeding, but, i believe the car to my right was going faster and I think he discriminated against me because I have a challenger.
    It was very heavy traffic on a nice sunny day. I was going exactly same speed as car in front of me, and all the cars in front of him
    I was in left lane, several car lengths behind the car in front of me, because I'm a safe driver.
    Cop pulls me over from 3 lanes accross heavy traffic blocking his view
    Of course, afterward, other people blow past me weaving in and out of cars, driving like complete savages, but, the cops never there when people are actually making the road unsafe and need to be stopped.
    Instead, hard working people like me, who are driving completely safe, have to deal with cops and their draconian bullshit. Good job

      same thing, only thing we can do is fight it in court....
      I got pulled over because I have a supra when the tesla infront of me went way faster
      He ask me the trick question obviously about how fast I was going
      And I responded with same as the car in front of me, just following the flow of traffic
      He stopped and thought about a couple of seconds and asked me "when was the last time I checked my speed and how fast was I going"
      I think the only thing we can really do is have camera set up and radar detectors running and present both evidence in the court.

    I always wondered how a cop going in the opposite direction, both in the far right lanes, caught me speeding. We assume it's only the speed trap cops that pull you over but nope, they apparently just set their gauge on the dash board.
    That said since we were both driving (opposite directions), could I have requested to see the gun that clocked my speed? I don't think he could have done the lidar one while driving, so i assume it was radar.

    Cop speedometer that works on LIDAR and RADAR somewhat works the same way, they do time of flight calculation basing on the distance calculated from the distance between the emitter, object and back to the sensors, and remember that while it do continuous calculation of the sent vs returned emissions to be timed against, for computed speed (generally displaying speed in MPH and KM/h).
    RADAR is generally somewhat inaccurate in some circumstances owing to the longer wavelength compared to laser light - it can be viewed as low resolution image presented to the RADAR sensors compared to the shorter wavelengths of light (in this case Infrared laser light), so LIDAR is usually used whenever accurate measurements are a must (the computer in LIDAR speedometer is also smart enough to ignore any Infrared light that didn't come from itself, so measurements are generally good with those).

  • @kingjames8283
    @kingjames8283 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Personally I no longer use the vehicles speedometer because it's usually off +/-3 mph. New tires travel slower versus well worn tires which travel faster. I use two GPS speed indicators, one on crashcam recorder display, and the navigation unit. Both are 99% in agreement. To verify GPS speed, I also use ground based communication towers which usually matches both GPS units. I also have a 4th separate speed indicator which uses PCM data calculated off my programmed inputs. I mounted the 4th digital indicator slightly left and below center of visual field so it's easier to see and I now use it for primary speed information. Factory vehicle speedometers only give general speed information but cannot calculate for tire wear and inflation pressure. Overinflated tires register faster, versus underinflated tires which register slower. I learned that trick back in the 1980's while working at Yellow Cab Company. During vehicle and meter calibration, we set tire pressures at posted. Once back on the street, we'd over inflate the tires by 10-lbs which caused the fare meters to tick even faster for higher fares which worked beautifully on longer trips such as airport runs.

Why the obsession with speed accuracy? And interesting cabby trick. No wonder the majority have been put out of business by Uber. Cabby's have always been crooks, driving longer routes, taking advantage of tourists/foreigners, parking beyond where they need for an extra 10 cents, etc.

If he must visibly see what he thinks is a speeding vehicle, how many seconds does it usually take to put the radar on that vehicle and measure speed? (From a parked, stationary police car and an oncoming vehicle)? Thank you

    • @JunkBondTrader

  • @JewelryEnthusiast
    @JewelryEnthusiast 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Lidar is easily defeated using laser shifter technology. Look to spend $1000 to $1500 for such countermeasures. Radar on the other hand uses radio waves, which is governed by the FCC. Jamming radar, or radio waves is a serious crime. Since lasers use light, no one governs light, making laser shifters quite legal.

    • @Justthatofficer
      @Justthatofficer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Always on once it’s turned on. We don’t turn it on as we see a speeder, it doesn’t turn on that fast. We transmit it (activate the speed reader) with a pull of the trigger and hold or by turning the transmitter to always on so it constantly reads. If the officer has a rear antenna and it’s on then yes they can get your speed.

    I sometimes see a car speed and come right behind a cop and they never get pulled over. Is this because the cop can't properly estimate the speed, is it because it would easily be thrown out in court, or other reason? I also have seen many times Troopers do 85 in a 65 and a whole line of cars following him at 85 and the cops doesn't seem to care.

  • @chrisrowland7680

    Hello, great explanation but quick question. I had a traffic ticket I believe is false. I drove past an officer who was coming out of a parking lot an immediately pulled me over. They claimed they used a LIDAR scanner that was calibrated that morning but refused to show me when I asked to see if it was working. They stated that they couldn't show me because it was in their trunk. Wouldn't you have to have the scanner in your hand and be pointing it at the car your targeting to get a reading since its light and tracks one vehicle? Also, when I drove by I made eye contact with the officer and there hands were on the steering wheel, getting ready to make a turn so I know for a fact they were not using a handheld scanner. I was also following behind a car when I was stopped so I believe they may have had an inaccurate reading. Thank you!

    • @Justthatofficer
      @Justthatofficer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I hope it wasn’t false. A couple things could be in play here 1. They used radar and not a LIDAR which could be built into the vehicle having a radar in the front and the rear of the vehicle to get both directions. 2. They could of had another officer operating the LIDAR further down the road. 3. He was using it in a hidden spot and tagged you further down, so he wouldn’t have it in his hand if he was pulling out to get you. The trunk statement is a bit odd I mean they don’t have to show you it but idk how it would get into the trunk if it was a LIDAR, which is why I think it may have been a radar. The biggest thing Chris is you yourself. Did you feel you may have been Speeding prior to observing the officer? If so it may have been true or the officer made it up which would be ridiculous but hey not saying there aren’t crooked individuals out there. Let me know if you have any more questions. Hope this helps!

      @@Justthatofficer Thank you for such a response! A couple of things, I was on a two way street coming out of my college, the officer was not even a mile down and the way the Parking lot was set up its impossible at the angle to have seen me. If they were in the parking lot and had tagged me and then we're exiting to get to get me. The parking lot itself faces another street, in the opposite direction but the exit faces the street I was on. I did not know they could not show me I have been stopped before and was asked by an officer would I like to see verification of his scanner working but I declined because I knew I was speeding. Another officer did come to the scene after I was pulled over but I saw them traveling a distance and not pull out of a hidden spot. To your last point, I don't believe I was speeding, I had my gf in the car and we were on the way to get some lunch and she does not like speeding so I keep it down when she is with me to make her feel safe. I do feel as soon as I made eye contact with the officer, I just knew I was going to get pulled over and it happened immediately, I drove right past the car and they pulled out the parking lot behind me and put there lights on. Also the speeds we were going at where not fast, I was told I was traveling 41 in a 25 which I felt was ridiculous especially since there was a car directly in front of me which passed the officer first.

    • @chrisrowland7680
      @chrisrowland7680 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't necessarily believe the officer may have made it up, though they did ask me did I know what a LIDAR scanner was an I said yes. Which promoted me to ask if I could verify myself by being shown it which is when they replied that I couldn't because it was in there trunk. However, if there were two cars in very close proximity, that passed the officer secs after each other maybe the radar did pick up the person in front and they mistook it for me? I would have to be traveling slower than the car in front of me based on physics to not crash into them so if I was going 41 then that car would have had to have been going over 41 which from my eye test and memory I don't think they were.

    • @Justthatofficer
      @Justthatofficer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisrowland7680 yeah it’s a tough call. If they used LIDAR or “laser” it has a dot that goes directly on the vehicle so there is no mistaking. Radar would show the front vehicle then your speed next to it as explained in the video. It is possible you may have been pacing the front vehicle not realizing you were speeding and the officer was only able to get your speed and not the front vehicle or just decided to laser yours. You could request a hearing and the officer will have to explain to the judge but it is a risk as if he is found in the right you could pay extra fees. At least that’s how it is here. If you’re approaching a vehicle that’s 150- 200 yards away going the opposite way will the radar continue to be accurate or is it more of an estimate of how fast the car was going . I was stopped going 67 in a 55 but I was pretty sure I was going 62 .I understand I was breaking the law either way I’m just interested in rather that 5 mph dispute can be proven .

  • @stevegibson743
    @stevegibson743 ปีที่แล้ว

    You only tested your radar for clocking in the stationary mode which was not a full proper test.
    The sole reason radar manufacturers provide 2 tuning forks to test with is to test the unit in the moving mode. First you test in the stationary mode exactly as you did.
    Next place the radar in the "moving" mode for traffic coming at the radar. tap the longer (slower) fork first and place it in front of the radar antenna head approx. 3 to 5 inches away. That should show up in the Patrol Unit speed window. With the slower fork still reading in the window, tap the faster speed fork and place it in front of the radar antenna head about 6 inches behind the first tuning fork. The reading in the "Target" speed window should read the DIFFERENCE between the two forks. Example: if your two forks are marked at 35mph and 50mph respectively, the patrol unit speed window should read 35mph and the target speed window should read 15mph.
    Third, switch the radar to moving for traffic moving away from your radar. Now tap the smaller (faster) fork and move it in front of the antenna. That faster speed should show in your patrol unit window. The tap the larger (slower) fork and with the smaller fork still being read, place the second fork about a foot behind it. The reading in the target speed window should read the COMBINED speed of both forks. Example, using the same 35 & 50mph forks your patrol unit speed should read 50mph and your target speed should read 85mph.
    this tests the math processor in the radar to be sure it can properly calculate the patrol unit's speed and separate it from your target speed.
    I was a cop in the Dallas area for a little over 16 years and have been to the LIDAR/Radar school.
    Next time you're in your unit, give it a test and let me know what you think. Sometimes defense attorneys will bring a radar test unit into court and have you demo the test procedures. It's good info to know. Be careful out there.

    So crazy to see how other states are allowed to use LiDAR and radar. In Pennsylvania only the state police are allowed to use radar and LiDAR so municipal departments usually have to pace you or some use the enradd system which sets up two lasers one on each side of the road and when you pass through it calculates your speed. I know there’s another method where they pick two points or lines on the road and then use a stop watch and a math equation to calculate how fast you were going in those points or so I’ve heard

    When using the LIDAR (laser radar), the laser light has to come back to the device in order for it to calculate the speed, which is done by reflecting off of the vehicle. Therefore, doesn’t the device have to be pointed directly at the vehicle?? If the laser light is not pointed directly at the vehicle, the laser light will still reflect off of the vehicle but at a different angle that won’t come back to the device, RIGHT?? When a murderer escapes from the cops, higher levels of monitoring can track the killer at higher expense for better result.

    Good video and greetings from an ex 16 year police vet from a suburb city in the Dallas area. I have been to the radar school put on by Kustom radar. My only comment would be on your radar testing using the tuning forks. That was only half the test and only checks the radar for the stationary position. It does not check the radar units math processor to verify that it is accurate in the moving position.
    To check that you use BOTH tuning forks.
    1.) Place the radar in the "Moving" mode.
    2.) Tap the low rated tuning fork and place it in front of the radar unit 8-12" away. That speed should show in the Patrol Units speed box.
    3.) Tap the higher rated speed tuning fork and place it approx. 16-18" behind the radar and lower rated fork. ( the two forks should be about 10" apart)
    The box marked for you Patrol Unit speed should still read the lower fork reading and the Target Speed box should show the DIFFECENCE between the two forks. Your higher fork was rated at 40.25mph and you lower rated fork was 25.25mph. Thus a proper reading on your test would be 25mph on the patrol unit speed and 15mph on your target speed.
    That is the entire reason they always give you two tuning forks rated at different speeds when you buy a radar. Otherwise you can only verify that the unit is working properly in the stationary position.
    The brand of your radar makes no difference at all. Next time you run the fork testing check it out and let me know. Also I'd suggest calling the radar manufacture. (any of them actually) and they will send you a booklet on the testing.
    Been out of the job a few years but I'm certified in the Doppler Speed Radar and the LIT20/20 laser by Laser Technology Inc.

    One night I was driving the speed limit but there was a car behind me about 300 yards I could see headlights behide me but there was a green laser pointed on the back of my car then in my car kinda got scared so I turned off the road it followed me so I did a few turns and the car stopped following me was it a cop I wasn’t going to wait and see if it wasn’t

      That doesn’t sound like any police technology I’m aware of. We don’t use lasers like that. Cool call on ditching them.

      Police lasers are not in the green part of the light spectrum.. they are in the infrared, invisible to the human eye. Seeing green light once could be someone's laser pointer..Seeing it often is sometimes an indication of an eye problem (know this from experience)

    I get told alot if you don’t hit your breaks they won’t know your speeding….. the people that told me that I geuss they want me to go to jail I never go over 65 tho unless I’m on an Interstate.

    • @Justthatofficer

      Yeah, don’t listen to them that’s false. If anything you have a better chance of the cop ignoring your speed since you slowed down.

    If a cop has its radar on while driving around and my radar detector squeals at me and I slow down, does he know its me in the crowd who using 1?
    If its not illegal in your state to own shifters on your car for deflecting lidar or how ever it works would a cop still stop me?

    • @Justthatofficer
      @Justthatofficer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If they already obtained your speed and they can see you it’s possible they already got you. We can see the front of vehicles drop down. If they can’t get an accurate speed then they may not unless you are at a very high speed they could use visual estimation. Hope this helps.

    Great videos! I got a speeding written warning yesterday. In Florida from palm beach sheriff department.
    Do you know how long that stays in their system ?
    Also do other agencies or state troopers have access of seeing that warning ?

    • @Justthatofficer
      @Justthatofficer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! That’s a a great question. So with us the warning will stay in our system forever and it can only be found by those in our agency, it doesn’t transfer to other agencies, but there are some agencies who share the same computer systems and if they do it could be linked together to where they can pull up that information. Verbal warnings also show up in our system because it records how we clear out each call for service.

      Is it public information for me to find out what gun he was using ?
      I run radar detectors my whole life and I’ve had k band disabled for over 10 years never got a ticket. My radar didn’t go off I’m assuming he was using a K band I tried asking him he said “an old one” I’m thankful I didn’t get a ticket but I’d love to know if I should turn K band on or my radar failed I hardly doubt that. Thank you!

    • @Justthatofficer
      @Justthatofficer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joserojasumbrianeto3829 yeah of course it’s no police secret lol. When you are issued a ticket it should display the type of radar used with serial number and this is sometimes found on written warnings as well. He was probably using an old one like he said and it used k band . I’d turn everything on just to be safe, but I know that can be annoying passing by certain stores 😉. Curious, what radar detector are you using?

      @@Justthatofficer Right that’s what I’ve found from previous tickets I’ve gotten it’s been like 5 years since I’ve gotten a ticket. But he didn’t fill that part of warning it’s blank so I’m unable to know what gun. Is there any other way I can find out ?
      Also he was with his partner one a second car and the guy was standing behind my rear passenger door so I put my window down and started talking to him he said he was the one who clocked me not his partner writing the situation apparently they take turns. It’s so annoying running K band today was my first day and I’m so over it you get false everywhere.

      @@joserojasumbrianeto3829 you can always call the non emergency number and ask them. I don’t see them giving you a problem. Yes sometimes officers use each others radars and if they issue a citation they would have to put that officer’s information on the citation . Valentine 1s were big back in my high school days lol.
