My wife's charge 5 battery started dying and eventually wouldn't even charge. Support gave out a free replacement or 50% off for another product. They checked her account, confirmed the battery life was an issue, asked where we got it, we said it was a gift and that's it. We didn't have proof of warranty or anything. I was incredibly surprised by the support, which is why I'm here actually, I might attempt to fix the battery on the old one and have it for myself.

same here. Their products are crap and they don’t stand behind them. They either die just out of warranty or they will push firmware upgrades that brick them. Hoping for a class action suit one day.

Mine was losing its charge after a few hours. It was out of warranty, so I did my own battery replacement. It was pretty easy to do. Now when I charge the watch, it starts at 1% and slowly works it's way up to 100%. When I take off the charger it immediately shuts off and when I put it back on the charger it is back at 1% again.

Thanks for this tutorial -- made it easy to replace. I'm just waiting on the 24 hour dry time now, but I immediately connected it to the charger and it was still not working -- any ideas on what else is broken? (Like what does a damaged board look like and or is there a step with the replacement battery I may have missed?) Was hoping to see if you had a vid. on the charge 5's board also...
    Thanks in advance!

I don't know what tool you were using to remove the front glass - the spudger I have is too thick to get between the body and the glass no matter how much heat I apply and seems to be recessed into the body so there is NO gap at all............. Mine was wrecked after a firmware update so I have a warranty replacement and only interested to see why it failed. Repeated issues with screen going blank and finally not charging and can not do hard reset. Broke it getting it apart and discovered the back cover was not really sealed well. I never wear it in or near water but there was signs of corrosion inside on the small PCBs so this probably contributed to the issues I was having. Bin job now.

ok thanks for the instructions for the fitbit charge 5 battery swap - battery was changed and when connected to the charger it was at about 15% after 15min (started at 1%) - that seemed all good but when i disconnect from the charger it does not turn on. so it seems the battery is charging (the old one always stayed at 1%) - will see tomorrow when battery should be at 100%. i should mention i have no reconnected the vibrator and shield and not glued back the screen because i wanted to first see if things worked.
next morning at 1% - hm, did i misread before not sure anymore - maybe not the battery

A firmware update issue seems more likely to be the cause of so many Fitbits malfunctioning with drainage and not the battery itself so think twice before wasting your time and money on battery replacement or repair.

Its very tight gap, i cut a piece out of soft drink can, side of the can is thin enough to make the initial gap, and base of the can is a bit heavier gauge that can be used to lift it off once you get the first corner open. I dont have a heatgun, just used normal iron, got it hot enough so it was almost too hot to handle with bare hands.

Is this a common fault on these? My mum has one of these and it stopped turning on. Right before that though it started malfunctioning and the battery drained extremely quickly. Before this the battery was lasting a couple weeks. When plugged into my meter, it jumps to around 0.37a before taking almost no power at all, wait a few minutes and this happens over and over again as if it's in some boot loop. Nothing appears on the display. Not sure if this could be caused by a dead battery or not? Got nothing to lose since it's out of warranty anyway and not worth doing any more intensive repairs on it.

Interesting stuff. I'm almost considering trying to get the tools but I dunno if it'd be useful in my case.
I was showering with my charge 5 like I regularly do, and about 10-15 minutes after, I am walking to the door and my device suddenly vibrates for no reason, I look at it and the screen won't come on. I check the app and its still working but it has no working screen. I did all sorts of things, tried swapping the screen face to something else in the app, then reboot the device twice, nothing. Then after RMAing it, I noticed that the screen worked again, however it would shut its self off after a few seconds. I tried charging it, and it kept reporting random values every time it would turn on. 2% battery, 97% battery, 4% battery, 100% battery. Each time, it would stay on between half a second past the logo, or 3 seconds past the logo, then suddenly freeze and reboot, or shut down.
So, I ultimately have no idea if it'd even be worth trying to repair this device because I don't know if there's any part in it I can replace to get it working again. This thing is about a year and a half old and still lasted 10 days on battery life on average.

Hi there. It sounds like your device has water damage. Yes the Fitbit charges are water resistant, but over time the adhesive that prevents water from going into the device erodes. Especially by soapy water, salt water, and sweat. If you would like to send it in for a repair I will leave the link here for ya 👉 www.joesge.com/pages/repair-service - Aaron P
