Great video, thank you. Harder to take apart than soldering. I use a hair dryer for a few minutes to loosen the cover. I secured it in my hand with a c47 and viola!

Very good video...looks easy enough so I ordered the replacement battery today. Only thing, I will definitely test the battery before installing. I wouldn’t want to do all that work for nothing. Update: Battery replaced....It's ALIVE!! Thank You!

If you do this procedure and then your Fitbit will only stay on while on the charger, you accidentally blew a fuse in the Fitbit when soldering. You need a magnifying glass to see, but there are two solder points on the circuit board labeled "F1". Those are the leads from the fuse mounted on the bottom side of the board. It's not worth trying to replace the fuse. Just add a drop of solder across the leads for F1 to bypass it. Be careful not to use any significant pressure while doing this because you could push the fuse out. In my case, I thought I had gotten a bad replacement battery until I put the old one back in and it was exhibiting the same "only works on charger" behavior. After reinstalling the new battery and bypassing the fuse I'm back in business with multi-day battery life.

Thank you for the tip, I guess I’ll see if I blew f1 after I let it charge for a bit.

Thank you. Your instructions are very clear. However, this doesn't seem like something I want to tackle. Is there somewhere I can take it/send it to have it replaced? Thanks!

Hi Ryan, nice video thanks for that. My fitbit Alta had a problem that only worked while connected. So I got a new battery to replace it. During the removal of the original battery I might have accidentally short circuited the system (or made some other bad connection). After that I realized that the screen doesn't turn on at all or when it turns on it was showing the error with the battery with an exclamation point in it. Anyway... I replaced with a new battery and still doesn't work. Wonder if you might know what is the problem? I've noticed that the replacement battery is 3.7V instead of 4.2V as the original.

Fitbit Alta charging cable is the worst cable i have ever used. Xiaomi Mi Band is the best option now.
