Sweet! A small wave of nostalgia for me. It’s exactly from the time I had my first contact with Warhammer Fantasy 😊

A great video Lee. As the other commenter said GW doesn’t do stuff like this anymore, they’d rather sell you something. A bit sad.

Thanks, Neil! I love the books from this era. I'll have to get the miniature painting one next.

I've got the earlier edition of this (1996) and they're great little books. As much as I know they want to sell their scenery, I do wish they'd kept books like this around to compliment their own kits.

Hey sorry to bring this comment back from the dead (yes, I do collect Vampire Counts/Soulblight). How big is the difference between the two editions?

Does anyone remember the old LotR tabletop magazine? Great terrain ideas in almost every Issue!.

The open field tabletop is ideal for Napoleonic battles ..hard assed British cavalry charging against the french at Waterloo....or Henry V's archers at Agincourt

It's true there is a place for youtube and seeing how it's done , but there is something about a book, that you can leave open and referenced and have it by you while modeling/building

This book, alongside the Warhammer Fantasy General's Compendium, remain two of the best resources for hobby wargaming ever. Absolutely worth picking up, even if you're just getting into wargaming.

There are even earlier books, showing collecting army's from the old Fantasy range and the 40k range, also a few books over the years showing how to paint your Army, even sections on Horses, cold ones, your Orks, Elves, etc, and a while back there was a book that was bind by spiral wire and came with a DVD. As I have been a collector of Fantasy and Games Workshop 40K Imperial guard Catachan Army, I don't play the game, love the kits. As I'm an Injured Veteran who got hurt back in 2008 from an IED, I live out of a wheelchair and have a carer most times throughout my week. The hobby has saved me too many times I can say, I model military, Zombies, and lots of Sci-Fi, but love building Japanese aircraft from WW2, as I'm an artist to help pay for my hobby and I show Sculptures from gemstones and I have shown my work around NSW, and other parts of Australia, my name on youtube is my ghost name because people don't understand Service personal, Cheers from DownUnder.

Part of it is that there simply wasn’t a lot of ready made terrain for sale, back then. Not to the extent that it’s available now, from GW and others.

Hi John, I can take on commissions for writing, media, cartoons, and video work but not painting sorry. That's way above my painting skill level too. I don't know any painters who take on commissions, but if anyone has any recommendations, please add them to the comments. In the meantime I'll ask around too. Sorry I couldn't help with Mortarion.

This book in my mind, is the locked in aesthetic of warhammer. It is a deep, dreadful pain to watch kids struggle to participate in warhammer due to the high price, when all you really need is some foam core and a cereal box. I think we lost something more important that just neat nostaliga with the move away from books like this.

    • @tabletopskirmishgames

Well said. With my new game, Population Z, we are focussing on that side of the hobby. It's so fun to craft some terrain out of junk and then play with it on the tabletop.
