Nobody does Rio like Peter...Peter Allen was incredible in concert and one of the greatest live in concert performers ever...I know as luckily living in LA Peter performed here all through the 70's-80's and I went many times...Bravo Peter~you are missed!!!
Peter Allen was an incredibly gifted songwriter and singer. I saw him in concert five times -- the finest and most entertaining showman I've ever seen. Taken too soon.
I was privileged enough to see Peter perform at Sanctuary Cove in the 1980s. A magnificent performer with a sad history who still came out smiling-my type of human!
That maraca dance is the best!!! I watch this clip at least once a week, especially when work stress gets the best of me. I put on my banana-yellow Speedos and proceed to do the Peter Allen Rio maraca dance in my front yard.
Peter remains one of the most iconic of Australian entertainers. "I still Call Australia Home" is like a second national anthem. Great man and great songwriter.
Always loved this song. Uplifting, fun, exuberant! I always want to get up and dance from the opening tune! Saw him live once in Sydney, quite brilliant. I recently travelled via the country town of Tenterfield, a beautiful place, and sang his beautiful song, Tenterfield Saddler, in my car driving through. I met him once, in the foyer of a nightclub in Aspen (Tippler Inn I think it was called), anyway, he was at the cloak counter checking in, my friend and I were just leaving and as luck would have it, we three were the only people in the foyer. He heard our Aussie accents and came over and had a nice chat with us. Really lovely guy and he did Australia proud. Rip Peter.
Incredible Entertainer, we were fortunate enough to have seen his show in The City (SF) three times. I was absolutely exhausted after each of his performances. His High Energy Level spread out to the audience. This Beautiful Man has been Resting In Eternal Peace with his partner since 1992..
I have to thank Hugh Jackman for re-introducing me to someone my parents listened to and I danced to as a kid, but had all but forgotten about. What a legend.
Yes! I saw Hugh Jackman in the the theatre when he did “The Boy from Oz”. I searched out more PA music after that because I only knew this one. Such a fun entertainer.
What a Beautiful, Happy Soul! What a bright, ELECTRICAL spark from GOD! What an incredible memory of when this song was a hit! I was 14 & IN Rio, summer of '78.Peter's incredible song was still playing everywhere & in all the discotheques I managed to get into(always was a very precocious kid-both intellectually & physically). They absolutely adored the recognition & the mastery/art of the language of the song: dancing to the infectious Samba 'following the beating of your heart'! Thanks,Peter!
this music video and song is everything to me, my parents first showed me to take the piss because the videos so funny, but over the last few years it’s become actually synonymous with good times and happiness in my family. at any high point this song will be found playing at the highest volume possible
Well He specifically took it from 'Ritmo de la Noche' by Mystic since this version of the melody sounds different. Mystic version also took sample from this song but Coldplay took sample from the other one...
I was at the Australia v Iraq World Cup Qualifying match. As soon as full time whistle blew and cheers went up, 'I Go to Rio' blasted over the PA System in the stadium and I automatically went into an attempt at Samba dancing. What a buzz that was!
This is awesome! I love Every Teardrop is a Waterfall even more now coz I can see what Coldplay did with it... They're both legends in their own right.
Wpw. I'd always heard this song on one of my dad's old mixtapes but never saw what he looked like. He kinda looked like the late 80s/early 90s Phil Collins back then!
Peter Allen was a great preformer and di not fall into any particular sound. He was a true original and will be missed by all. I still listen to his original cassettes from so long ago. The man could really entertain a crowd. Sad the younger people have missed out on the fun and interesting music from then.
No kidding! How could she not have known?! If this guy were any more flaming, he would have set that darn piano on fire! (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) Great song - love love love this fun video! Get up and dance!!!! :-)
This is a far superior song to dance to than Coldplay's "...Waterfall." If you can get a digital download or off a CD try playing it and see the reaction. I remember hearing it around the Greek islands and it had a feelgood effect that made everyone want to get up and party. It's a classic!
@@epicyugiohduelsofhistory738 Well... maybe its a playback. When we ear the chromatic scale on white keys He Doesnt play at all !!! and at the end...... Well.......

I can’t believe Peter Allen appeared on TH-cam in 2007.
I’m Japanese, and I still love his music in 2024😊

What an entertainer, can't tell you how many times we went to see him. Sorry he's no longer with us, but he gave us so much joy. Rest in Peace Peter!
I saw him at Radio City around 1982. It was thrilling to say the least. He brought the house down! RIP.
You just can't sit still when Peter sings this song!! Such talent!! Thanks for sharing!!

The one & only Peter Allen, there is no other entertainer who performs & writes as well.
I love Rio de Janeiro, this song has a bit of that city's spirit!
My bestie and I just booked a trip to Rio next month, and this song popped up in my head.
Don't expect to see some of the things he describes, cause he makes some mistakes in the lyrics.
What a beautiful song and lively performance by the incomparable Peter Allen.
It would be awful if we foget Peter Allen. He was such a wonderful character. Great songs and great story.. Love hugh for bringing him to life..
Rip Peter...you left us to soon...fantastic entertainer and creative songwriter.
This is dedication! Love the song.
The piano reef has been a model for many dance music of 90s, it is a masterpiece! It was recently also used by Coldplay

Not really recently used by Coldplay it was used by Coldplay over 11 years ago for a song called Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall
The father and mother of “Every teardrop is a waterfall” by Coldplay

It's another beautiful sunset, isn't it, Señor Smith?
This came out when I was 10 . I thought he looked like a science teacher , but was totally electric . Good memories from a great time .
Great Entertainer, Great song and the world is a sadder place that he's no longer here.......................
Very cool song. Watching the Rio opening ceremonies as I type.
WOW!!! I never heard of Peter Allen and I always thought that Pablo Cruise originated with this song. Allen did this in 1976 and PC in 1978.
I was at the Australia v Iraq World Cup Qualifying match. As soon as full time whistle blew and cheers went up, 'I Go to Rio' blasted over the PA System in the stadium and I automatically went into an attempt at Samba dancing. What a buzz that was!
Long time, no hear. Still so good.
I LOVE "i go to Rio!" Rest in peace! peter!
I remember a version of this in that film "Dominick and Eugene." Really great 80's film that probably 99 out of 100 people never heard of.

Good point. Let me try again.

He also looks a bit like a classical depiction of the devil, in 80s terms Sardo Numspa-style
What about Jack Nicholson?
Remember flying to Fire Island with Peter when he was rehearsing Legs Diamond for Broadway . I miss him , sweet man !
Love this song, and really, really love the guitar in it... it's just really nice and tasty..

@MonoCabreado Peter Allen is credited as a songwriter on "Every teardrop is a Waterfall" because coldplay sampled parts of this song for it.
OMG. I never knew this existed. I was looking for a karaoke version of the Pablo Cruise song, not knowing it was a cover. This is awesome.
