    Great video Kim (and Camera guy 😄)I love how you encourage us to grow onion from seed because many people act like we can't grow unless it is from starts/slips! Seeds are more economical for most of us. I use onions almost everyday so it is better for my containers. I am ordering this week. See y'all on the next LIVE! 🤠

    I’m growing short day Madelyns. I just transferred my transplants to grow bags here in SoCal 9b. I had great success with them last year. Heavy feeders. They bulbed up nicely.

    Glad to see that you’re growing onions in smart pots. All other videos I seen only show raised beds, well I don’t have raised beds, just grow pots and containers. So I’m excited to grow onions in grow bags this year. 😊

    Grow the right onion for your area. This was a key lesson for me. The first time I tried to plant onions, I planted the wrong kind. Once I learned what kind work with my area, I had a great harvest!

    I use leaf mold to start my onions, and a lot of other things. Last two years used mosquito bits to knock down gnats and other flying insects, really works well.
    Another point to consider when growing onions is short vs long storage onions. I goofed again and planted too many short storing onions, only have a dozen or so of long stored onions left, not even ot of Jan yet. The Yellow of Parma hold up great, only if I plant enough, lol, this year for sure.
    Stay Well !!!

    Thank you for this video, especially the take down info. I hope you continue to update us as the oniins grow (indoor fertilizing schedule, "hair cut",transplanting, fertilizing (which you use to start and later switch too), harvest/curring, & storing/eating (cooking).
    I will be buying your onion seed collection next year, I already started onions back in December and have thousand of gnats 😂, but now I know what to buy to kill them. Thanks!

    And thank you for mentioning that it’s possible to grow onion types not intended for a specific region. Although it’s possible to grow short day onions in the long day region (where I am), I now know that the short day onions will not bulb, and be more chive-like in growth. 😊

    Hi kim I'm trying to see if I can grow purple onions for the first time ever can I put Epsom salt in the soil for onions

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, you can use Epsom salt in the soil for onions, but it should be done carefully and in moderation. Epsom salt is primarily magnesium sulfate, and onions may benefit from it if your soil is deficient in magnesium. Magnesium supports photosynthesis and overall plant health, which can enhance onion growth.

    Mine are already growing. I don't have a seperate timer though and usually run 18 on 6 off and haven't really had a problem with that. My problem last year was not curing them properly. I put in my shed with little air circulation and it was a very hot and humid summer. Lost half my crop. 😤

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      Sounds like you're off to a great start this year! Glad 18/6 seems to be working well for you. Curing can definitely be tricky-good airflow makes all the difference. This year, maybe try a shaded outdoor spot with better ventilation? Fingers crossed for a bumper crop - keep me posted!

    How much Take down are you putting in the spray bottle

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  11 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hi Alice - great question! For a 20 oz spray bottle, I use 1 tsp, but it's always best to double-check the label directions for specific instructions for your bottle size.
