would this be ok for PS5 - playing PS4 games off it? I've used an old 1TB crucial SSD via an 2.5 adapter with no issues. I've just got back from Thailand and used it as a backup of videos from my action cam via my Tab S4 - really small, light and compact so saves the weight etc of taking a laptop on holiday.
X6 is junk. Runs at USB2.0 speed when circuitry craps out. It's very cheap and has a design flaw. X8 supposedly has the same issues but seems to be less problematic.
@@LonSeidman yes, their most recent one! Luke was talking about how 2 new creators joined the service and mentioned you as one. I don’t use floatplane, would it be a better way to support you there or any other platform?
So my preferred support platform is the donor box page (Lon.tv/support) but I try to be available on most of the major platforms. Whichever is most convenient for you is fine by me!
@@homegeographic5351 I realize that M.2 NVME SSDs will blow away these small factor 1TB SSD drives in read/write speeds. Since you mentioned that you can get them NVME SSD builds cheaper, can you provide me with links to a NVME enclosure and a 1TB M.2 NVME SSD which together are cheaper than what the Sandisk/Crucial All-in-one SSD 1TB drives are selling for (around $150 USD)? I'm seeing 1TB M.2 NVME SSD going for $100 - $120 on Amazon. Add a decent enclosure and you're right at the price point (or more) for the Crucial/Sandisk 1TB all-in-one SSD products.
I have the X6 4 tb and it is very slow (30 mbs) i just purchased yesterday in Best Buy and i even formated and also went to Device Manager and change in Properties in Policies to BETER PERFORMANCE and still VERY SLOW do you think it is a problem from the factory? i have change to different USB connections and nothing
If you like small form factor drives, then M-Sata or the smaller M.2 size: 2230 / 2242 / 2260 and Not the 2280 throw it in an enclosure and Bingo Try to avoid JM Controller and go with Via or ASMedia chipset
I bought the X6 4TB which cost me $569 CAD!!!! First time buyer of Crucial product. The one I received clocked about 35MB/s, more than 25 times slower than advertised. So ok, I have a defective unit. I contacted Crucial and after a bit they agreed to send me a new one. Except, when it arrived, I had to pay for duties because they put the full value on the invoice, which cost me another $90. This was not what I experienced with returns from other companies over the years, where it is usually indicated that this is a replacement for a defective unit. So I called the company and was told it is "company policy". So ok, another $90n bucks gone, but at least I have a new working unit; WRONG!!!! The new unit was the same as the old one. So after almost $700, I am stuck with something that belongs in the garbage. Nice work, Crucial. I have tried on several computers, Lenovo(i7, 7th generation) win10, Surface Pro 6 with i7 win10, and another win7 desktop. So I downloaded the firmware thinking it could fix it. Both the online version and the iso version couldn't even find the X6 when it was connected. I don't know what to do now....
Aw, finally a decent comparison! So the x8 doesn't sink in performance like the x6, due to the latter having 64GB "fast" write cache - after which the performance sinks tremendously? You have no idea of how much I've been searching for this info! Could you please confirm? I have MILLIONS of small files - is the x8 like the x6 - taking barely 76K per file, vs 1MB like others?
Your write performance on X6 looks off. I used Crystal Disk Mark and got horrible SEQ1M/Q8T1 write performance but then I unplugged the drive, plugged it back in to the same Thunderbolt port on my XPS 8950, and it jumped from 51MB/s to 797MB/s! I ran both tests with 500GB of data on the 2TB drive. None of the other metrics improved on the 2nd test.
I will soon buy this very compact 1tb SSD to use on my 2019 MacBook Air but theoretically I should have more than 500 MB in reading and writing or am I wrong then the memory I attacking my MacBook will surely be 1024 GB or not

It's way cheaper to buy a standard SSD and a USB 3 enclose. Easy to do and upgradable. One reason i stopped buying these things.
Most consumers won’t do that.
@@LonSeidman Maybe they should?

Been waiting for some time now for external ssd manufacturers to get their act together and stop charging such a high premium for an external ssd.

I would check and see what your computer is negotiating speeds at - 35MB/s is about what I'd expect from a USB 2 connection.
