  • This was such a fun piece to work on knowing it would go in my daughter’s room. It was especially fun to have her help a little along the way.🥰
    As always, participating in one of the challenges Lisa from ‪@ivylane-home‬ does is so much fun! Be sure to check out her video with her piece and all the challenge pieces if you haven’t yet. While I would’ve loved to have been in top 3, the finalists choices were well deserved!

    This came out perfect! I appreciate those older pieces… they’ve traveled through time and get a fresh touch years later to continue being utilized. Old and new craftsmanship - I’m glad you kept a lot of the original character. It turned out great.

      Thank you, Julieann! I agree. I love thinking about its possible history - who has owned it, what it’s been through and seen or heard, etc.😍

      I’m glad I’m not the only one!😅 Thanks so much! I actually didn’t win or make the top 3, but the finalists were some really beautiful pieces! Lisa has her video out that features all of them, including the winning piece. I meant to link it in my description but will now.

    I am working on a similar piece and wasn't sure about paint washing it. Seeing how nicely yours turned out helped me decide to use your technique. Boy, that oak is hard to get totally sanded and stripped, the grooves really hold on to that old finish.

    • @Restorations.by.Rachel
      @Restorations.by.Rachel  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh I love that it inspired you to do the same! I hope you love it! It really did hold onto that old finish pretty tightly. It’s great to have a hard wood to work with but then it has its challenges.😅

    • @Restorations.by.Rachel
      @Restorations.by.Rachel  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      And you can always do like I did and just paint wash one section to make sure you like it before proceeding with the rest of the piece.

    Such a cute piece! And I appreciate you saying and pointing out you wore your mask. It is so important and I see so many not take it seriously! Though I would still recommend wearing a respirator with the stripper. Even if it is a lighter or eco product, it is still an aggressive chemical. Love that your daughter helped you ❤

    • @Restorations.by.Rachel
      @Restorations.by.Rachel  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! Yes, I agree that it is surprising how many don’t wear theirs consistently, especially with how much exposure we have as refinishers. Appreciate the suggestion to still wear mine with the eco friendly stripper.🩷
      Thank you - I love that she got to help, too!

    Beautiful job! Your garage work space looks just like mine! 😊When you use sprayer in there, how do you keep spray off of everything?

    • @Restorations.by.Rachel
      @Restorations.by.Rachel  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, Karen! You mean like a hot mess?!😂🤣 I only have protection on the ground typically, so I have a lot of overspray on things against the wall.🙈 I plan to do a curtain setup where I can just pull them across when I want to spray. It seems to be an easy project; I just need to get the supplies and do it.
      Do you have a setup you like?

    • @KarenBoris
      @KarenBoris หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ I could really use a bigger space! Hard to work straddling the lawn tools! 😅 I try to spray when I can set up the spray tent on driveway but weather really limits when I can do it. Spraying Inside the garage would be great!

    • @Restorations.by.Rachel
      @Restorations.by.Rachel  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can understand that. I have a tendency to overthink as well. If I’m stuck on a plan, I try to find similar styles of the piece for inspiration, and that usually gets my creative juices flowing.
