Hearing the train in the middle of the night feels like home. I don't know if I could live somewhere that didn't have a train. Like a beating heart almost.

That's a great location with all the crossings & horn action.

It's a great location to get a lot of horn action but activity on this rail isn't as busy as it used to be. They still get a few every day but years ago, you could expect one every half hour to hour. My cousin lived there for years and when I would spend the night, with her house about 300 feet from the tracks, they'd wake me up several times. Good times. Haha

You might catch another company using trackage rights on the line from time to time I know where I'm at union pacific and bnsf share some of the tracks

I bet northfolk has trackage right on cxs lines and cxs has trackage right on northfolk line I think trackage rights are used on lines that are not very busy if I'm not mistaking

The train station was built in 1896 by the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad, I believed the waiting room area closed in 1967. Concrete ties are cheaper and easier to obtain than timber and better able to carry higher axle-weights and sustain higher speeds. Their greater weight ensures improved retention of track geometry, especially when installed with continuous-welded rail. Concrete ties have a longer service life and require less maintenance than timber due to their greater weight, which helps them remain in the correct position longer. Concrete ties amplify wheel noise, so wooden ties are often used in densely populated areas.

We have a railroad yard still operating here in Hagerstown Md. Not busy like years ago. LTrains pass through town every day often tying up long lines of cars on main streets. They usually are going a lot slower than this.

The city I went to college in has a small rail yard where they add our remove cars or rearrange them. The first time I heard them slam the cars together startled me but I got use to it and actually kind of miss it now

Reason they use wooden ties on crossings is because they are more flexible than concrete. And wooden ties don't cost as much.

There is a lot of Railroad history in the area. That station is the old Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Coraopolis station. I remember it was being worked on by a non profit a few years ago to make it structurally sound. There was commuter rail service on that line from Beaver Co to Pittsburgh till the early to mid 80s. If you are heading toward Neville Island the old Montour RR freight station (I think) is located next to the Neville bridge. Not sure what it is being used for. Also I am not sure if it is still there but also only the other side of the bridge you may see an old switch tower which is near where the Montour Railroad interchanged with Pittsburgh & Lake Erie. Their engine house and mile one were located there. I think they shutdown around 1984. Going further to where 79 bridge is to Neville is where the Pittsburgh & Moon Run Railroad interchanged with Pittsburgh & Lake Erie. They shutdown around 1938-9
