Just came across this and thought of my uncle as he used to be the Main Hump Master at Enola Yard Harrisburg PA for 38 Years for Penn Central & Conrail. He's still alive but mind is going, old age I believe. He has taught me everything to know about Hump Receiving Yards that there is to know about them. After a Freight Car is uncoupled from the Hump Master the Freight Car rolls over a Scale Weight used to figure out the Scale weight of the car before full gravity takes over to coast to the first set of Brake Retarders which scale weight is measured by a computer to give the Retarder the perfect amount of Braking applied to its destination into the Receiving yard. Conway Yard was the Largest Double Hump Receiving Yard in the World for more than 60 Years as of 1989 as when Conrail Removed the second Hump and Yard making Roseville Yard UP the Largest for a short time and then in 2002 Bailey Yard Nebraska Took the Spotlight of becoming the Worlds Largest Double Hump Yard. Fun Fact for you Conway was One of Three Largest Yard in the Whole World known as a nicknamed the 3 Sisters #1. Conway #2. Altoona #3. Enola where the 3 Largest Yards in the world at one time all together at the same time all located in the same State as of Pennsylvania! Bailey Yard Located in Nebraska now a days of 2022 Double Hump Yard is a Total Copy of Conway Double Hump Yard with more Modern day to day technology if you didn't know.
My buddy an NS Engineer got me inside Macon GA’S massive Brosnon hump yard I got inside footage and trains switching it was awesome . Might do Chattanooga's Debutt yard one day
Love this video. It was full of great information. I was in Pittsburgh this past weekend for my first Steelers game in Pittsburgh. As we I was leaving Pittsburgh Monday morning I went to Conway yard and was able to video a few trains. I know the Ft Wayne main line comes thru Conway yard but wasn’t able to find anyone how it worked with Conway. I’m not sure if it has its own line or not. If you could find out and comment back it would be greatly appreciated. I live in Illinois and film a lot of trains that go thru Conway.
Thanks for the feedback! Yea NS 170/171 Originates in Conway yard along with a local that run the Ft. Wayne line All the way to bucyrus, Ft Wayne line runs from alliance to ft Wayne but a couple of trains that originate out of there run that line
Another amazing video! Hope you and your family had a fantastic Thanksgiving! As much times as I comment on your great content, it always pays off, even if any hardships you may experience (if for any, hope all goes well for you). Keep striving your great and dedicated work and best wishes for you to deserve the milestones you desire for! :)
Does not look like that would be NS 572 maybe NS 573 with NS 4593. Norfolk Southern EVEN number UNIT Trains are generally LOADED ODD are EMPTY. UNIT Trains head towards Altoona Are Loaded. Exception is 63V loaded and 62V empty.
