I have been looking into putting a top on my tool box for a while.....Looked into a custom stainless steel top....Yea, I don't think so. Looked into steel, making some kind of steampunk top....Maybe. I saw that Husky has a butcher block to on one of there boxes. Yea, I could do that, priced it out, under 500 if I do it myself.... Then your vid popped up... The universe works in mysterious ways. I used tape to make the edges and I just sanded them down with a scotch brite pad!! Also the power strip was already on my toolbox, I just transferred it!
When you cut or route this type of panel & see a vastly lighter wood then your panel has been cleared or waxed or oiled. Staining that is pretty silly. Need to strip it right back not just a quick scuff. Whatever finish you apply is just sitting on top not penetrating the wood.

How did you clean the letters up? And also what power strip?

If it was a countertop for my kitchen I would of sanded it down all the way. But since it’s for my toolbox extra layers won’t hurt lol
