@@theryujinn1582 Most people aren't creatives messing around in blender, so it's not that big of the point. Neither is dlss if a person plans to play competitive games frequently, or simply focus on rasterization. I'm not gonna lie, people aren't as obsessed w/ ai's incursion into frame gen and upscaling as nvidia bros make it out to be. It's just them. 7800xt is a card that's like half a tier behind, but it costs like 350 dollars less, so it's beyond worth it in terms of (yeah yeah, frequently used term, but it remains true) price to performance. In the end, it's playing games cheaply that matters, you can't shrink it or pretend like that isn't the main market for gpu purchases. AMD does that leaps and bounds better than nvidia; as from the 7800xt to the 4070ti super

Ill be honest. Got a 6700xt and its WAY better performance than 3060 for a little more. Also, it very rarely passes the 200 / 204 watt barrier. Dunno why amd anounces it as 240w . In raster/competitive gaming/raw native power it works as a 3070.
i have a ryzen 5 5600x with a 6700 xt, i agree, a lot of my friends dont know the performance of amd cards so i just say it performs like a 3070, it does perform way better for the price than any nvidia card at the £300 mark. what i will say is that the fan on my model (MSI Mech 2X) gets VERY loud at 100% usage (in ghost of tsushima, last of us, cyberpunk 2077 at max settings 1080p), it also somehow hits 110 degrees C on the hotspot temperature, which is quite concerning. i can agree with the power usage too, its never gone over 200 for me
I think the extra 40W come from graphics memory and power delivery. You'd probably see them when measuring total power instead of just looking at software readings.

I went with a 4060 for my first ever build a little under a week ago. Obviously it's not the best, but budget constraints limited my options, and I wanted to future-proof the rest of the system. It's still great for me though. I only play at 1080p anyway. Somehow got all my parts for just around $700 when it should've been over $900 (even the receipt showed it should be that), so I could've sunk $100-$200 more on an even better GPU with more V-RAM but I had no idea the price would be as low as what I got the parts for. I could've got the 3060 but it was out of stock. A Best Buy nearby had it but since I don't really play games that require 12gb V-RAM (ultra-realistic Minecraft shaders being the only exception), the 4060 is just fine for now, and I'd rather get a little more raw performance. Micro Center is where I went btw.
You know the market is bad when the only GPU below 300 that has more than 8GB of memory is a slow RTX 3060. Provided you don't get scammed and recieve the even slower 8GB version of the 3060.
Valid point. Most of the cards you're talking about aren't going to really be replaced for another 6 months to a year if you only buy exclusively new cards.

It was either that or a 4070s at around 650 Euros but because the only models around that price point were 2 fan variants like Zotac/Palit, i skipped it and im glad i did. Indeed a friend just got a XFX 310 7900XT for $610 before tax insane price per performance. The next choice was the 7900XTX at $800, the 4080 super is a minimal upgrade to that at best for $1000+.

Bud get a job. A 3060 is 200$.. and can run most games fine. A 4090 is 1k so factually 400$ is mid range. I can't believe I'm reading comments where kids are buying cards that are like 1400 dollars arguing about which is best and then I have to read you cry because you can't afford anything 😂
@BovineIntervention it's more just that almost every card these days is a goddamn scam. I bought my RX470 for like $150 back in 2016, and that card still holds up well. Meanwhile, if I want a card with equal performance relative to the new games of the year, I have to spend upwards of $350-400, which is frankly way above inflation.
@@scrubscrub4492 that's not how inflation works and computers are not cars, there's a reason the new console costs more than the last... If you want to have something powerful and future proof 400$ for a graphics card, especially if you have credit, is cheap. Doesn't matter what you had before because running Overwatch 1 in 2016 at 144fps is NOT the same as running overwatch 2 at 144fps in 2024.
@BovineIntervention You could say the same about realtime lighting in the 90s, and a lot of the environmental rendering in the 00s. A 2002 $150 GPU had 64MB of VRAM and could run most games of the time pretty well. A 2010 $150 GPU had around 1GB of VRAM and could run most games at the time pretty well. A 2016 $150 GPU had 4GB of VRAM and could also run most games of the time pretty well. Meanwhile, a $150 GPU today will struggle with a surprisingly high number of games while in some cases still only having 4GB of VRAM.
@scrubscrub4492 bud in the 20s a model t Ford was damn near free. It doesn't matter what you had before it matters what the products are capable of in comparison. Cards are still capable at the 200$ price point that doesn't mean they're gonna compete in games where you need to do more..

@ most of the 7800xt models say the recommended power supply is 750w, the 7800xt draws like 250-280w most of the time in game and peaks at over 300w, you should check what 7800xt model you are getting and what they recommend for the power supply

I agree with most of these except the 3060. As of now, there are better/equal choices for cheaper like the 5700xt, 6600xt, and a750. Even the 4060 is slowly creeping down in price (veeryyy slowly). If the 3060 had the tech of 4000 series nvidia cards it would be worth it, but *imo* it’s not the best choice rn
From my limited knowledge the 5700xt is basically the same as a 3060 and the 6600xt is a slight bit better. However the main downside to these cards is that they aren’t being sold new, I can’t find any of these cards being sold brand new on Amazon but I can find loads of 3060s being sold brand new, and with the 3060 being only £230 now it’s definitely still not a huge loss to buy especially with the fact you have brand new warranties ino
I upgraded from the 3060 to a 4070 Ti Super (uni student in Australia, no way I can buy a high end current GPU right now) and it's been amazing. Honestly I didn't even know GPUs just crunch through games like that these days.
@ nah just look at any side-by-side comparison between those two graphics cards on any game. The difference averages to just 7-10 FPS. Super does good 4K and has a lower power draw. A good deal pick it up for 530-550 bucks… vs $800😂😂😂
Are mentally challenged? It's objectively worse in every aspect except maybe price 😂, I don't know that though because I don't keep up with the prices.
Purchased XT 7900 XTX two weeks ago for 849 €. Couldn't be happier as looking that AMD next gen GPU's they presented in the CES 2025, are placed below it to compete Nvidia in the 5080 series, so the XTX is higher range for now to come.
slight issue with the number one spot imo: in the US tariffs will likely be implemented in late jan/early feb 2025, making these high end graphics cards even more expensive than they already are or would be if they weren't in place. depending on the price drops, the 4080 and 4090 might stay at the same price as they are now or even a bit more expensive, so it might be a safe bet to secure a high end graphics card if you can right now if you live in the US
It shouldnt be that way, but nvidia being nvidia, made it so that the 2080ti cant do ray tracing etc. especially at 4k , caused by the lack of frame gen. The 2080ti is actually almost as good as the 4070, the only difference, which is the dealbreaker here with ray tracing etc. is frame gen.
@@portleviathan9435 +1 to that. Yeah never used ray tracing for any game so far because it makes no sense when most games they already look pretty decent without it.

7800xt good card, 4070ti super is just a higher tier card. You dont see all the holes the xt has in gaming, only shows when the cards are actually utilized fully. xt prob best card for sub 4k gaming imo, but if you do literally anything other than gaming, ti will be leaps and bounds better.
Nvidia is just more versatile if you are using for other than games as well. Do my work on it and then play some games. Very versatile.

i have a ryzen 5 5600x with a 6700 xt, i agree, a lot of my friends dont know the performance of amd cards so i just say it performs like a 3070, it does perform way better for the price than any nvidia card at the £300 mark. what i will say is that the fan on my model (MSI Mech 2X) gets VERY loud at 100% usage (in ghost of tsushima, last of us, cyberpunk 2077 at max settings 1080p), it also somehow hits 110 degrees C on the hotspot temperature, which is quite concerning. i can agree with the power usage too, its never gone over 200 for me

I could've got the 3060 but it was out of stock. A Best Buy nearby had it but since I don't really play games that require 12gb V-RAM (ultra-realistic Minecraft shaders being the only exception), the 4060 is just fine for now, and I'd rather get a little more raw performance.

My first PC was a 1080ti that lasted like ten years which is cool and all but new games are using AI scaling, fog textures out the wazoo, and hair thats not even properly rendered.
