Hey Vagabonds, welcome o NE Portland, you pleasantly surprised parking the Vagabond next door to my humble abode. Enjoy your stay and feel free to say hi, the neighbors are all nice folks.
Your baby hated the old ac too! It was funny the way she kept giving the side eye when it was being turned on! 😂❤
She’s the side-eye-queen 😁
Oh wish my husband could change out ours 😊 but you titled your video mistakes were made. I see no mistake!
Dave didn’t make any mistakes but I had one job. Watch for dicor drips. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️😂😂😂
@@CareyOnVagabond I saw that but you are too hard on yourself. 🚐
Fantastic upgrade. 30 pounds lighter is pretty significant too.👍🏻
Especially off the roof🙌🙌
That is so cool & quiet! Really enjoy the "real world" tests!! Can't wait to share with my wife and to budget a future upgrade. Looking forward to your inverter/battery power uses. Stuck in Gainesville for awhile as we're supporting our friends recovering from dvl. lung transplant.
Good friends are there when needed. Good for you❤️
Holy cow that's a huge difference. In the back to back comparison near the end I couldn't even hear the RecPro over the video. Nice upgrade.
Sooooo happy!!
What a huge difference! Yup, worth the effort and $$ imho!! Carey on...xoxo Cella & Sugar
So worth it! We’ve hit some heat since this video and we’ve put it to the test!🙌
I had a 15,000 put on my northern lite 10-2 and we love it. The heat is great to take the chill off in the morning. And being much quieter is also great.Nice job.
Thanks!
LOL, we’re trying to watch you from our campsite in Texas with our POS Dometic AC on. It’s 95 degrees and the volume is all the way up. What were these manufacturers thinking!
You guys know what we’re talking about!
Great upgrade, I have a 620 and plan to pick this up.
About 3 years ago, I replaced the Dometic AC unit in my motorhome with the 15k BTU + heat pump version of that Houghton AC unit and have been very pleased with it. I also like the dehumidifier function. It has held up great and does a fantastic job of both cooling and heating. Just one thing to watch for. Even when the filter looks pretty clean, if there is anything at all in it, during periods of heavy draw on really hot days, it tends to shut down and give an error code. So on the really hot days of 110+ here in Arizona, I slide the filters out. Probably not a great solution, but it works for me. One minor disappointment with the unit is that I had intended to be able to take the thermostat to bed with me since it is a remote. However, I learned that it is an IR remote, not an RF remote. So it only works in direct line of sight to the panel.
Thanks for the tips! Appreciate it!
Nice to have help and the lift for this job. Certainly quieter. I don't really like AC but can run my noisey one on batteries. I try to be where it's not needed.
Same here. Leave the heat when possible!🙌
Hi to you all. We have to agree most RV AC units are Very Loud! 👎 Sounds great now. Would like to see how well it cools when it’s 95F Day and how is the draw on the Battery Thanks for sharing the install Carey On 👍
Hi! I think it’s going to work just fine on those really hot days. We’ve been in the mid 80’s recently and running on low worked fine. We’ve only ran it on battery for about 20 minutes. We’ll do an update video:)
I'm thinking of a 12V AC unit ... The new Cirrus 920s 🚚come with a 12V AC along with a lithium package to run it continuously... Not cheap but probably worth it depending on one's budget. Also, I'm interested in hearing how efficiently the dehumidifier functions on your RecPro and if it keeps up with the humidity in the camper. I've seen some folks mention it might not be as robust as their factory AC unit when it comes to dehumidifying. In fact they had to supplement with a small tabletop dehumidifier. 🧐
Lots of options out there these days! 12 volts a good one.
I have checked on the Truma that they are using in the new 920. I am pretty sure it is 120 and they run it through the inverter. I could be wrong but I havent seen where Truma is producing a 12 volt unit. I am also considering going 12 volt for our boondocking. What unit are you interested in? I have been eying the velit.
It's all just a matter of preference. I like the volume of my dometic since it drowns out all other outside noises. I am solo so earphones takes care of listening to iPad. The extra power of the dometic nice to have if needed but lower power model you switched to is better when using a portable gennie. Of course if the dog doesn't like the old one well that is a no brainer then.
Definitely a matter of preference. Just to be able to have a normal conversation over dinner last night with it running was sooo nice.
Cooooooool!
I see what you did here😉😁
Looking at the window behind you after you had it installed. It looks like you did install it just before the rain started coming down. Yeah. Time for some scones..
Install couldn’t have been a day later! The rains came!
Nice improvement! I think that will make your lives a lot better!
I think so too!
Nice job! Great QOL improvement.
Thanks!
Did he rent the man lift or did he actually have one at home 😂
That’s super quiet 👍🏼
Rented😉
The AC get better and quieter. Hope you get happy with the new one. What do you do with the old one?
Our friend who helped us had a friend who needed one for a food truck so we donated it.🙌
Nice! Is it a heat pump too?
They have a larger version with a heat pump. The one we installed does not. We love our Alde heater:)
One of our fans died and I just asked Ray of we should switch it out with an AC unit. I have him looking this up now! LOL
Do it Ray!!!! 😂😂
You guys will be able chill quietly while chillin! Safe travels. Chill On... oops Carey On!
Into some high heat in the Midwest and loving it so far! Looks like we’ll have to try and outrun some storms though.
@@CareyOnVagabond oh… I didn’t need to know that you guys are headed into some gnarly storms. Please be safe out there in the road. I’ll try and not worry too much. Carey On!
@@mickylawless1941 We’re all good! Just driving more than we like to stay out of them🤦♂️😁
@@CareyOnVagabond I shan’t worry then! I’m a little bit of a mother hen when it comes to people I care about. Cheers!
Great video! Can you tell us how many amps it is drawing on high and eco mode? Not sure if it has eco but some others do. Thanks!!
We’ll do some testing and update video once we get some use out of it. It doesn’t have an eco mode per say but it has low medium and high.
I have seen in other videos on this AC that when you first start it ! Set to 60 on high fan until you hit desired temp then set your temp. Also if you have erratic operation of compressor not running long enough change batteries first. My question to you is . How do you think that size would work in a 170 extended Sprinter?
Thanks for the tips! We’ve only used it once but it cools great. If we ever build another van I’d likely use this;)
@CareyOnVagabond I was hoping you got this one last week. I'm very tempted to also get this one ! Will be looking forward to see it test on your batteries .
Soon!
Noise really does not matter as much as power usage. We snowbird here in the Keys from December to early May and run a DC powered EcoFlow Wave AC unit off batteries. The unit draws ~400 watts during the 80 degree days. 90 degree days it draws 500 watts. The Coleman one that came with the Lance 850 we use down here pulls ~1150 watts on 120 volts.😮
The EcoFlow is whisper quiet run off DC power. When sun is low round 5ish pm power draw from there over night on DC batteries is ~350 watts of power. Oh and did I mention whisper quiet.😊
I've been looking at doing this too. Does the heat pump option make it any taller?
Not sure if it’s taller or not. It’s definitely wider and heavier.
Didnt your Humble Road custom van have the top appliances? I still dont understand why you sold that and got a stock camper that requires upgrades.
Our van had a cheap loud ac with no thermostat just like our camper. What’s important is that we understand why we went with this camper:)
Are you able to run this on the batteries?
Yes. We’ll see for how long:)
30lbs lighter, huh? so you can carry 30 more pounds of snacks for Pistol? 🤣
dunno if anyone makes one but I bet that old Dometic AC can be quieter if it had a controller upgrade (a variable frequency driver)
ooo...WAGO connectors rock
😂 that’s a lot of pistol snacks!
@@CareyOnVagabond you'd think but I dunno if Pistol would agree 🤣
True:)
Sorry I might have missed but what model was the new AC
Houghton rec pro 9.5
Where did you order your AC from?
Directly from Houghton. Arrived in 2 days.
Was it the Dicor drip or a bird. 😀
😂
Do you have anything installed to alert you if ypur AC fails while your baby is home alone.
We would never leave her if she would be in danger if it failed. We never leave her for long anyway:)
Eileen, I really like your hair long.
Oh thank you!
I need to do this. Anyone know an installer on the east coast? I’m in Georgia now.
D & H Rv center in North Carolina put my Houghton ac on my northern-lite camper.
