the lyric that resonates with me most is "you're here for a reason but you don't know why"
I’m watching this because I’m making choreography for this song and dancing to it so I wanted to know the meaning behind it this really helped x
It really saddens me to see a 23-year old, *young* man being afraid of getting older, because he's afraid of becoming too old to be "popular". You're not old. You're young!
I'm turning 32 next week and I've decided for myself, that you're never too old to dream or to try something new. I'm glad you've found yourself again, Noah. Keep it up and never stop believing in yourself!

My name is Noah Kahan, and this is behind the lyrics for my song False Confidence
[Music]
I wrote False Confidence during a time where I felt like I was having to change the way I look, and the way I was acting, the music I was making, to fit into the grand scheme of being famous and being a person in the music industry and being someone that people wanted to look at and pay attention to. In doing that and trying to change myself I figured out that I was kind of losing my identity, and losing what I think made me special.
A line that really speaks to me from that song is "and hope I wake up young again" because I think that a lot of the music industry is focused on youth, and a lot of appeal for pop and mainstream artists comes from their age, how young they are and how amazing it is that they're doing what they're doing at such a young age, and I was so scared of getting older and growing up, and losing some accessibility to my music and some venue for success in my youth and I wanted to wake up young again.
Another line I thought that was cool was in the bridge was "Look at me all fucked up over someone I'll never meet" because I was trying to appeal to all these people who didn't know me, who I didn't know, and they're these faceless online likes and accounts and streams that I didn't really get to interact with, so I wanted to speak to the absurdity of being afraid of the opinions of somebody that wasn't really there
For someone listening to this song for the first time, I think the message I want you to hear is to not take yourself so seriously. I say it [in] the first line of the song, and I think that it's kind of the whole theme, it's captured there, and I think that it's important to make sure you have a sense of humour and remember who you are and where you came from, especially when you're trying to keep your identity, so hopefully you can remember that.
