The Best Peated Highlander? - Glenturret 10 Peat Smoke Review

  • Today I review the Glenturret 10 Peat Smoke which is presented in this beautiful bottle. Glenturret has been bought by Lalique, the French crystal maker and they've changed their design and possibly their recipe.
This peat smoke has been making waves about how good it is and I know I am a bit late to the party but here it is. This one is from 2021 and bottled at 50%abv non-chill filtered and comes with natural colour. So on paper it's everything we want but let's see if the juice is good? Happy watching!

Fabulous review! That is a beauty of a bottle! Lovely design! I have never tried this scotch and I have to! I'm excited based on your review! Sounds wonderful! I love difficult and complex! Hey I am a psychologist so of course!! I am thoroughly enjoying the oysters, brine and smoke that I am adoring with the Lagavulin 11 Offerman 4th Edition!! I always love your reviews!! Cheers! 🙂

Thanks Christine, glad you liked the review, I always appreciate your support! Ah yes the Rum cask one. I have not tried it yet but I did buy it so, I'll drop a video soon. I always find rum and peat go very well together so I am excited about it. Cheers

What a cool Proustian moment! I just bought the 12 on sale (in Germany) and I like it alot, it's above most comparable Highlanders. And yes, the bottle is gorgeous. Keen on trying this, thanks for the great review!

Nice breakdown of what is good about this one, a pretty solid value here in the US.

For the right price, this is a very good dram

Interestingly, I bought this bottle out of curiosity last weekend. I had a fairly similar impression. I’ve only had the neck pour, but to my palette, I interpreted the lactic doughy and marshmallow notes as sweetened whipped cream. I didn’t really interpret it as briny, but salted caramel. Interesting peated highlander. Nice review.

Nice that we got similar notes! Yeah I understand the salted caramel and maybe I was a bit too fast and loose with the word 'briny' 😅 Thanks for watching, glad you liked it

Sounds like a pretty decent bottle, bottle design is incredible though, I’m with you on that one, unfortunately I’ve not had the opportunity to try this yet but maybe in the future, excited for you and Jeff’s stream later. cheers!

Yeah the bottle design is just beautiful! I was not able to follow the chat well so I don't know if you were there but it was good fun 😃

A great but somewhat convoluted review… a bit of Ying and Yang.
I tried a sample and felt similar… not a must buy for me…
    Cheers 🥃

Yeah I can see that it's not a must buy but I have been enjoying it lately. Let's see if I'll replace it. Cheers John

Will need to add this to my wantlist, highland peat is where its at for me. I prefer it to islay.

Hi Sertug, interesting review also because it did (as very often for me, one of the magical tricks whisky does like almost no other spirit) led you to a personal memory...I tried this expression only once (I knew the older now discontinued & unpeated one, a great one) last year, and loved it, but availability & price wise (around 85 € here, don't know how much you paid yours ?), the whole new rebranded core range is a struggle to get & to buy, tbh...That said, the 2022 release of the 15 yo I tried (bottled at a generous 53 % abv) appeared to me as really great & worth putting it on a wishlist, but, again, it's sold 175 € here in France, at least ! Cheers ! PS: If I had to mention what is for me is the best peated Highlander, on my side, obviously, after having tried 22 expressions of it, I'm obliged to say Brora, and then (more affordable for us mortals), of course Talisker...

Hi Greg! Yes I love it when whisky takes you down memory lane 😃
I realised why I have the US version because I got this off of an auction and actually paid somewhere around 50pounds which I think is fair for this dram. Your prices sound a bit steep but unfortunately it looks like this is the stance Glenturret is taking these days.
Brora! Yeah man if I tasted as many, or if any, I think I'd go for that as well but thanks for also mentioning Talisker for us plebs 😂

@@thewhiskyenthusiast Nice price yours ! Well, I am financially pleb too (lol) it is just that I started my whisky journey in a better time price wise, and had the chance also to meet some more comfortable whisky lovers who shared their collection & knowledge with me...Also before say 2015, some precious bottles were more easy to be poured a bit from, in shows, on a "behind the counter" selective basis, and if it appeared to the stand owner you were passionate (nothing to force or ask), you could be poured for free some amazing drams...Cheers !

Great review of a great whisky. I visited the distillery a few weeks ago and tasted the 7 year old peat smoked and immediately bought a bottle. Having had the 10 previously I would put it right up there as one of my favourite whiskies, however I feel the 7 is better balanced and just pips it. Would be interesting to see what you think perhaps in a side by side.

Wow that's interesting! Well I can't find any Glenturret in my own market but maybe I can search some out let's see. Thanks for watching!

Nice review, I've come to think mostly of Islay when thinking of peated scotch, but as you noted the Highlands offer a different taste. Though I do love GlenDronach as a peated Highland scotch. How would you compare this to that? On another note, I recently picked up Elements of Islay's Beach Bonfire and think it is fantastic. Have you ever tried it or any of the Elements of Islay bottlings? Any thoughts on these? I'd like to see your take on these in some reviews. Cheers!

I do enjoy the Glendronach Peated but there are two version and one of them is better than the other, I can't recall which between TRADITIONALLY PEATED & PEATED. This one though is better than both of them in my opinion.
I have tried a couple of Element of Islay before, not the one you mentioned and yeah they're easy whiskies showcasing solid Islay malts. I find them a bit expensive for the size though. Thanks for watching, cheers
