The best encapsulation of Johnson is when he enter Jeremy's room, tells him to be confortable and gives him his own drink. This is Johnson at his core
I thought it was when he powered through his tai chi
This is pure genius.
_"Is_ this a terrible idea? It can't be; it's in a film! They wouldn't put a terrible idea in a film, they'd get sued!"
I love this scene 😂 I love how they show Jeremy's warped logic & thought-process as well as his general ignorance, while also making a sly jab at the declining state of the film industry too rofofololol

Alan Johnson and Super Hans are the most interesting characters in the show. They both serve as toxic idols for Mark and Jeremy: Johnson as the image of corporate masculinity (get the deal, get the girl, get the car) and Super Hans as the image of the anti-establishment egoist. Both are wildly flawed shitbags, but Mark and Jeremy can only see in their respective idols what they want to see.
That is a great observation
One of the bonus features on one of the DVDs has the writers take on mark, Jeremy & Hans. Mark is how men perceive themselves. J is how others perceive them. And Hans is how men aspire to be.
But that needs to be modified to factor in Johnson
Its on another comment somewhere but basically Fight Club. Johnson and Super Hans are the Tyler Durdens Mark and Jeremy want to be.
I feel this also works because Johnson is something of a father figure for Mark. I don’t really believe that Mark is attracted to him sexually, but more that he Mark sees Johnson as a suave, kind paternal influence - the polar opposite of Mark’s truly awful own father. Mark is so inept with his own feelings that he can’t identify this and conflates his admiration and love for Johnson with something sexual. There’s proof for this in that Mark routinely remains in denial about his own feelings and relationships throughout the series (such as persevering with his doomed relationship with Sophie before the proposal, despite his increasingly obvious resentment of her), because he naively believes doing so will bring him the security he craves.
Brilliant analysis! I never picked that up
"Alan Johnson. I'm in love. I'm in love with you, Johnson." Such poetry.
I‘m in love with you, Johnson.
That means I love you, Johnson.
You are a beautiful human being, Johnson.
I‘m in love with you, Johnson.
The casting of this show is second to none
Chance would be a fine thing.
What about Blackadder? Or The Thick of it?
@@footballhipsterPeter Capaldi as Malcom is absolutely perfect as well as the Rebecca Font as Nicola. Like peep show the actors really bring the show to the next level on top of genius writing.
@@thomascobbett Not to mention David Haig as Steve Fleming or Paul Higgins as Jamie McDonald.
@@footballhipster Jamie especially is a fucking quality character excellently depicted 🤣
“The scythe is remorseless. I hope the scythe’s remorseless swing can bring some comfort to you all”
- That whole speech has me in bits 😂
It;s like a warhammer 40k speech lmfao
“Thank you Alan, for those inspiring, yet challenging words”
You can tell that Johnson is a stone cold psychopath because he loves Windows Vista. Like Patrick Bateman preferring Genesis _after_ Peter Gabriel left.
“Is that… normal… pooing you’re doing?” is permanently bouncing around my head.
Doesn't sound normal
god that opening with the pan to reveal the rest of the boardroom kills me
Excellent filming throughout this show. Loved it!!!
“Suze, where’s the big scissors? Have you moved the big scissors?”
I think that line cracked me up more than any other for some reason. The fact you can't see him but can only imagine him furiously rifling through drawers to find them. And we can only imagine the project he had in mind that would require the big scissors
@@oneandonlyjaybee it’s hilarious, always makes me laugh -and ponder what exactly he needed the big scissors for 😂
Jez looking over at Mark in Disgust in POV whilst he is taking a shit is honestly the greatest angle of all time its so much funnier when it feels that personal 😂😂
I love that they couldn't fix the bathroom door, but Jeremy was able to casually install a lock on Mark's bedroom door.
What did Honda say
Mark put the lock on
Super Hans was using mark’s room to lick a bird out, so mark put the lock on.
@@owencampbell8799give us 10 would you
he is my favorite character, he just plays the role so fucking well
He does do a bit of Shakespeare in his spare time.
Paterson Joseph is a phenomenal actor who is absolutely masterful in this role. Best character in the show
How Jeremy says ‘Johnson!’ makes me laugh every time
Mark wants to be Johnson's queen. If the public will accept him, he's going to be Johnson's queen.
"So its true, I heard the rumours but I couldn't believe it. I'm sorry about your mug Mark" 😂
Such a great actor. Perfect character.
The best Bond we never had. He's good looking, a brilliant actor and would really nail it in the action sequences
"the scythe is remorseless"
May that be of some comfort to you all. Okay.
big old box here @@lucasm3879
19:21 has got to be one of Johnson's best scenes. The fact he's so cheerful and upbeat 😂
Great little guy in great big box
Pretty fucking chipper...
best scene
His character is hilarious, and the facial expressions 😂… I bet they must all crack up a lot when they film these.
Vast majority the quotes I remember off by heart Johnson's responsible for at least half. His pep talks are literal gold.
He is often considerate towards mark at times.
Always felt like he was looking out for mark occasionally - like when he seen Sas grinding on Jeff, “are you okay with that”
The APR joke is classic johnson 😂😂
It would probably only be...12%
Jeremy looked so good in that Ted Baker suit . . .
Paterson Joseph was a really Inspired piece of casting
Johnson's wife ran off with his buddy, we get bits and pieces of the characters' pasts that help us put together why they are the way they are. lol, this show is a definition of good writing.
His ex-wife showing up would've been entertaining.
chance would be a fine thing....a fine thing indeed.
2:23 "Lets dance!" always gets me haha
The APR line is Johnson's own "I win... in the most minor way possible"
‘Chance would be a fine thing.’ X3 😂😂😂
My favourite Peep Show character
Haven't started watching yet. Already like this comp
“You’re like the fat girl who’s just been asked to the school disco.”
Every single Johnson line is pure gold
Oh yes, 30 minutes of pure gold
Tai chi Johnson is my favourite ever scene on tv
He just powered through…
I love the concept that he does things that are supposed to be slow fast to "flex"
16:42 Liam Kendrick in the house!
Heeeey!
Best character ever!
Johnson and Hans are S-tier characters for sure
I use "I can't believe I let this happen on my watch" all the time
I like his character in the show, very funny. I remember watching an American time travel TV show back in 2016 called 'Timeless' he also was in that, I was very surprised to see him in the show and it took a few minutes to realise that it was him. He was good in that too 😊
He's a Shakespearean Actor 😊
Up on the South Downs, a haversack full of Becks, that’s the dream ain’t it?
Suze where's the big scissors, have you moved the big scissors?
Seen 'Johnson' ie Paterson Joseph in Wonka and Boat Story where he is excellent in both! Peep Show still funny in 2024🎉!
My fave character
“Milk them ‘till they’re dead” - Why Johnson should be everyone’s inspiration
1:19 seems like Johnson mightve genuinely cared about mark at first...that or just insane
Only because Mark is useful to him as an employee & someone to manipulate.
"Johnson!" "Mark!" "Johnson" 'Mark!"
Saz ''im not your girl it's just your turn'' Corrigan
25:07
Mark's magic hands repaired the broken mug handle
Johnson is a legend
I love him. It’s sad when he becomes a bit of a loser in the last series but he’s still so good
please elaborate
The 3 amigos!
Print, you damnable fudger!
He’s been to the bottom of the bottle, and back to the top ☝️
okay righty righty
"Good ol' Vista". The man is a menace.
KETTERING MENTIONED HELL YEAH 25:30
25:07 I cant believe this happened on my watch. LOL
How did you know we were asking for this?
"Is that normal pooing you're doing?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
"This is bullshit, Mark! You know the credo, illness equals weakness!”
“Yep, oh yeah”
Doesn't smell normal 🤨
The magic eye
Jeremy for gods sake prrp prrp
Up on the South Downs, a sackful of Becks
That’s the dream, ain’t it? 😁
Maybe it is a bit…nice
Sarnies?! God he loved a sandwich!
Becks, a simple becks
Mark seems to be attracted to people who treat him badly, including Jez, Johnson, Sophie & Dobby.
If he gets any attention he laps it up, good bad he doesn't care
What about Jeff then
@@bombomtom5421 Mark isn't attracted to Jeff. He briefly tries to pretend to become friends with Jeff, but that's in order to gain access to Sophie.
@@davidz3879 I know but you said mark is attracted to people who treat him badly. Jeff treats him like shit too so why isn’t mark attracted to him?
@@davidz3879 I think a better way of wording it is that mark is attracted to people who show him the slightest bit of affection. Something all the characters but Jeff ever did
Frankfuurt!!!
In the exchange with Jeff and Johnson starting @18:01, can somebody please explain why it is that Mark says "doff" rather than *"Dobb",* as Jeff and Alan say it?!? I've never ever ever understood why that was kept in, as it seems like a flubbed line.
I think you're hearing it wrong as Johnson cuts over the end of the line slightly. I hear it as Dobb.
You're not hearing it wrong. I've never understood that either
Here, have a drink..
Poor me poor me pour me
Johnson is pure comedy gold.
I just watched The Beach for the first time in like a decade and was wondering what this guy had been up to since then.
He was really great in Wonka
Gerard was all about the red team.
that he was
£530 😂
A real life ‘Indecent proposal’ 😆
Big suze should not be touching the big scissors
Illness equals weakness
God I fucking love this show.
Johnson is in 17 eps. He, Mark, Jez, Hans & Jeff are the only characters who are in all 9 series.
JEFF?!
Quite a lot of J's
Why does this matter?
@@rorz999 It's relevant info for fans. You're welcome to write better comments than mine. The people who criticise me here don't write any good, relevant comments. The people who write good, relevant comments don't criticise me.
@@davidz3879how is it a good, relevant comment? It's meaningless. All we can deduce from it is that Johnson is a recurring character, which we knew anyway
Where's the door
Paterson Joseph could still be in the top tier of Doctor Whos. Doctors Who?
Don’t be alarmed Mark it’s just Tai Chi. Take a seat and I’ll just power through.
Is his first name Alpha?
Alan Johnson was right, Mark should have 'kept it little' with Sophie
Criminal they didn’t include the BMW driving scene
26:00 mmm-arr-ha classic Johnson
FINALLY
Doesn't smell normal
Holy Wayne was born from the ashes of JLB Credit.
Five hundred and thirty pounds
does anyone know why it’s that random figure?
Show me a good loser, and I’ll show you a loser
17:05 what's he saying?
"long-necked Bud, hubba bubba"
Would Johnson be celebrating American Independence Day or would he say it's the biggest sham ever perpetrated and that we Yanks should have never left the Commonwealth?
I always feel nauseous whenever I see the clips with Saz the spaz.
Mustachioed Mark is really creepy and it makes me a little sick in my mouth.
Alan Johnson was a character in Peep Show.
Saz was awful!
The absolute worst
Terrible person, but the actress playing her did an amazing job. Her wince after Mark kisses her is perfect
£530
Is this about the permanent markers? Mmmm??
*Bully me daddy Johnson.*
😂
Johnson is beautiful
