The Intrepid would be a better competitor with the Titan, if it had 2 S1 shields and 2 S1 coolers like some other starters. A couple more missiles wouldn't hurt either for the price point.
also it should have been a size 5 gun (or two size 4 in a vertical layout). Most of the other starters are dishing out around the same DPS with much smaller guns because they have multiple. Unlike system components that seem to increase in power exponentially, guns for some reason do not.
@@Xaxxusthe fact that the nurses just came out not long ago and are equipped with 2 size 4s there's no way they would give the intrepid those weapons. Not with it being so much smaller then the Zeus
Armour is going to play a role here, but still, a S5 gun would definitely make this ship much more interesting, and it's price much more justified. A mini-ares starter. Imagine that. How did they manage to fvck that up. The next weapon rebalance with armour in mind might flip the table, though. But Titan will also exist most likely.
Intrepid is a $50 ship. But CIG is getting too desperate. All starter ships should always be kept at gold pass standard since this is the only ship most citizens have. The fact that Aurora, mustang, reliant, and Titan are more than 5 years behind current levels is ridiculous. There is zero reason to pick intrepid except for the new shiny of the intrepid. When Titan gets updated to current new ship levels it will undoubtedly get more expensive again.
I do like your comparison because you look at every gameloop a starter may be interested in and compare the ships potentials. @verpine3534 CIG will do what they always do. Make it worse to bring it in line with the rest of the ships. Can't have one being better than the others!
I upgraded to the Intrepid and I love it. However, I would definitely not recommend it to a new player. It's still a better starter than the Mustang or Aurora, but it had better be for the price! It just cannot compare to capabilities of the cheaper Titan. While the Intrepid has the best interior of any starter, even if you count the Nomad (I don't ), that's just not important when you're learning the game.
If I had to buy a starter...one ship...it would be the Titan...has been for many years. Right now, as an interceptor, it faster than most other fighters and has weapons that are as good as any other the category. From a combat performance perspective, it is the best bang for your buck by far. Having an entrance/exit to the cockpit is also a valuable thing as you don't have to expose your entrance. I can only assume that they will sneak in some weapon/armor storage. You can also keep a 1 SCU box in the back for now. That said, I really like the Intrepid and it is pretty fun to fly around...and the quantum distance will be a big factor soon. In 5 years playing this game, I have found it is best to get the ship that excites you and understand that you can always change it. You WILL want to at some point. I have bought some ships multiple times and melt and get something new often.
Theres one point I´d like to add that I recently discovered the hard way: I was sitting in an Intrepid and flying from Orison to Daymar to get the mining mission for IAE done. On my way through Crusader OM-1 i got interdicted by pirates. I had no chance in fighting with the intrepid. I couldnt jump out because I was jammed. And I couldnt outrun them, because the Mantis and Buccaneers were faster. I was dead the second I got the interdiction-message. If I had been sitting in the Avenger, I could have just turned around and ran away. The Titan ist faster even than the Mantis, Buccaneer und Firebird. Just fly until youre out of interdiction-range and jump from there on. If done right pirates arent a threat when sitting in the Avenger.
I'm pretty sure the Titan will receive some nerf when it's finally brought at the same level of the new ships, the stats can't match the space for components
I would have agreed that the Intrepid had better QT fuel if CIG had not nerfed the Cutters QT fuel. That just tells me the improved fuel is just an initial selling point that will be gotten rid of later.
Imo the titan is the better choice. Price is one of the issues. Specs as well. Also while this has been beaten to death, the outward appearance. I get it was trying to copy the MSR and the Ares ships but the cockpit on both ships are in the middle and maintains a sense of symmetry, can'tr say the same for the Intrepid, that gap from the cockpit and Gun is too wide. Had they centered the cockpit and left the design as is, and change those tail fins, the ship would have been a better success.
Agreed but at least you can get around it easy. Grab a Self-Store box and throw it in the back - job done. You would need to transfer any loot to your freight elevator anyways so honestly its better than using ship interior storage. The Intrepid is just bad value - its so damn weak for the money and the cool interior isn't enough to make up for that.
@wallacengineering8096 that's true I just think in the long run when they add engenir to the game the titan will suffer unlike this little ship, and if they add things like in a sims game our character would hate the titan, having a bed to log out in sucks since they claim you'll be able to log out where ever once base building comes into play
It's also likely to get a rebalance and be brought in line with the other starters, its been the best since forever and its not even been a competition. This thing is ripe for a rebalance.
@steak-a-potamus6231 yeah I think the reason is cause the titan use to be stalker only and has like 4 scu cargo and the other half was 2 bounty pods... And than they came out with the other 2 and turn the stalker into the titan and never rebalance his weapon load out I've had it since back in 2015 and it updated to the titan and it's LTI but I always know they'll nerf it
@@biolazerIdk if they really will cuz honestly it's a variant of the warlock just a cargo variant and even then the 325a is better then the titan imo the titan has a bit more hp but the 325a is faster tuned a way better inside and better missile package 5o make up for the lesser storage an difficulty in carrying a bike. I don't really see a need to nerf them cuz each starter is comparable but excels in certain places more then the others really.
Just a note for some perspective. The Titan is one of the very first batch of ships that CI ever produced way back in the beginning. I had one back in 2013 or so when we only had the hangar module. Anyway - the reason it's always considered the best starter is because it's not really a starter. It was originally sold as a ship to be in a similar class as the Origin 300 series. About 5-6 years ago though, they decided to start referring to it as a starter, I'm not sure why. Anyway, this is why I never considered it fair that the newer, formally-recognized starters such as the Intrepid, the Origin 100s, Mustangs, Cutters, etc. are held up against it. I expect the Titan to get nerfed someday - it absolutely should if they want to keep referring to it as a starter.
It was actually one of the more expensive ships in the begining. The Aurora (and its variants), Avenger Hunter, The 300 series ( its variants ). That's it...
The Intrepid costs _more?_ That's stupid. I would 100% take the Avenger Titan. Other than a larger interior, which means nothing right now, the Intrepid doesn't do anything better.
Would the Origin 315 be considered a starter ship? If so it has 2 S3 guns and 12 SCU of cargo. Great ship. The only crappy part of the 315 and the Avenger Titan is the awful quantum fuel tank of .5. This is where the Intrepid shines with 1.2 quantum tank.
Unfortunately not, tractor beaming it into the cargo hold can cause issues with the cargo grid so it definitely is still very janky and does go boom 😅 also no chance of any wheeled vehicles :)
