    Wonderful video, sad about the fires all around, love the gorgeous outfits! Also enjoyed the tips from the Docs! Thank you for sharing!

      Thanks Kim! Yes we liked the outfits too and glad the Doctors tips were appreciated. It seems that they quite well received by many people and although this is a sailing channel we thought that we could give more medical advice for sailors which no-one else has done yet....

    WOW, wonderful camera work and editing this week guys. I hope you are really enjoying the new Leopard. It's wonderful that you are giving your subscribers a chance to have short holidays with you as You explore the Italian coastline. I'm assuming that the sun in Italy is not as strong as in Australia...

      Thanks for your kind words and I think the UV damage is more in Australia but is certainly hot in Italy. We keep out the sun anyway and the Italian have slightly darker skin so have a bit of natural protection but we are still amazed that they lie out in the sun and on their boats ALL DAY!!!

      Hi S, good news, as luck would have it Europe is too cold for us and we are changing our plans and heading to India earlier, if we can get flights from Dubai at that time. Is your invitation to attend your daughter's birthday still on offer? It seems like it may be a possibility for us to make it after all!
      If not, that is no problem, we know how things can change.
      Can we correspond by private emails ours is drjohnmcintosh@tpg.com.au.
      looking forward to your reply.
      Eli and John

    Wonderful scenery as always , as for the fire , just imagine the views from the sea a little further down the coast in AD79 😃 walked up Vesuvius a couple of months ago , followed by 4 hours wandering around Pompeii , fascinating preserved history , though it did take a few days for my knees to stop hating me 😂 🍻🥂

      Thanks Dave and you are exactly right! We will be touring Pompeii in the next 2-3 weeks - the best written description of the explosions that were seen for days and days from north and he was somewhere north of Naples - so Formia may well have been where he was! And yes we had painful knees too even though we did not do Vesuvius!

      @@barefootdoctorssailing8567 If you’re going around Pompeii , take food , there’s nowhere to get food inside , and no pass out , water is available though. We had a massive pizza left over from the previous evening , so that kept us going 😃🍕

    Oh, those seductive calm anchorages - they make one forgot the night before. Luv the "Ask the Doc" added to the "Captain's Tips" segment. Learnt a lot already. Few questions: 1) Is there any data about the amount of the body that needs to be exposed? Would exposing only the legs whilst still protecting the face and upper body work? 2) What about cloudy, overcast days? Does the right type of light get through in such conditions?
    Thanks, J & E. Always delightful. Would luv to hear what Nellie has to say. She's really getting an indoctrination to yachting life!

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HI Azure, thank for the comment! Answers 1 - the less body you expose the longer you. need to do it for (simple mechanics). 2 - Cloud and overcast reduces the UV so you need to be out there longer and unreliable so clear sunshine is best is best. I think cloud may reduce the UVB more than the UVA, just like glass.... We'll let Nellie know you want to get her feedback!

    Long time cruiser on the west coast of Florida so have seen many green flashes. It is not usually a line on the horizon, it is the top tip of the setting sun that turns green for about a second just as the sun sets. It is rare and requires certain temperature inversions. There is no mistaking them. Keep looking.

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567

      Hi Lee, thanks for the comment!!! Very interesting... It was Eli that has seen the line along the horizon but I have only see the green in the area of the sun. Do you know any facts around I the temperature inversion and is it proven to be cause as I thought it was probably a retinal effect?

    Thanks again for the video, how long did it take for your permit? Also I assume you don’t have a water maker yet? Or was it just you were coastal hopping so not making. How many litres of water do you have , is it a problem in the med getting water ? We are looking at a water maker but might need to choose between air con and a water maker, in terms of budget.

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI Rod, we do have a water maker but if we are not motoring, I do not want to burn diesel just to make water and whenever we are in port/marinas, we always let the tanks run low as free or relatively cheap water is better than running the water maker (using diesel). We have about 700L (200US gallons) of water and our Spectra makes 17gal/60L per hour. The water lasts us 7-10 days usually so if we visit a marina or port every 10 days, we minimise watermarking needs. In Greece the water in some places was undrinkable so we made our own and if we were motoring for ages in flat calms we ran the water maker as the diesel was being used anyway... You can't do without water but you can do without AC. However if your female partner is sensitive to being hot, then that will also skew the choice towards her comfort. Happy wife, happy life!
      Depending on where you are sailing, I would go for the water maker first but if you are only doing Med Sailing, water is easy to get so an air con may be your choice there. We used our AC only occasionally (again because we had to run the generator) but in the future with Lithium batteries and DC chargers that can run AC for 8 hours with 1 hour of diesel only, that problem will be gone...
      The permit took about 4 days to arrive but no-one ever asked for it in the week we were there anyway!
