Paul's Greatest Idea and Why It Was Forgotten

- Paul is our only first-person witness to Jesus' resurrection, but as he lays out his understanding, in 1 Corinthians 15:35-54, of what that entailed, namely the transformation of the human being Jesus from flesh and blood to a "life-giving Spirit," it is in sharp contrast to the common idea of a body reviving and leaving an empty tomb. How can this be?
In this video Dr. Tabor lays it all out, and shows how Paul's understanding is part of his "greatest idea," the creation of a divine family of Spirit-beings called the "offspring of God," exalted above angels, and part of a transformed cosmos...thus Romans 8:18-25.

Thank you Dr Tabor for this mind opening explanation. I like how Tabor explains in a relevant text in his blog, that Paul's view of resurrection as Transformation into an immortal spiritual body is nothing like Platonism, but rather the opposite of Plato's idealist metaphysics. In Plato's view it is the soul, not the body, that is immortal and also pre-existent as such (not transformed by God as Paul's spiritual body), and it is also a dualist view (souls are superior to the body), meaning that one wants ideally to escape his/her material and decaying body, as well as the material and decaying world (therefore, for Plato, death is a friend because it allows this escape, not an enemy to be defeated as in Paul's view). These ideas, reflect Plato's and Paul's/Jesus' different understandings of history in relation to life and death . Plato's is cyclical and eternal, Paul's is linear culminating in the eschata, the final judgment day of Christ's return and the establishment of the kingdom of God.
In Catholic school were taught that Jesus rose into his transfigured body, as on Tabor. The pope has recently reminded that the Body of Christ in the Eucharist is the Transfigured body. So Paul's description is not completely forgotten. In near death experiences the bodies of people are described as bdies of light/energy.
A personal experience that many people experience the same.

A common case of reification is the confusion of a model with reality: "the map is not the territory". A potential consequence of reification is exemplified by Goodhart's law, where changes in the measurement of a phenomenon are mistaken for changes to the phenomenon itself.

Great! (I agree with this model which goes back to Plato, but differs from the Judaic idea of an actual reconstitution of dead corpses). There is a case similar to the Tabor model in Yogananda's book "Autobiography of a Yogi". It's the chapter "The Resurrection of Sri Yukteswar" available online. Sri Yukteswar was the Guru of Yogananda the but the latter's description of the event matches the Tabor interpretation of Paul's experience. So the Yogananda account should have read "Transformation" and not actual Resurrection of a dead corpose. Yogananda was quite clear.
Good presentation by James, yes, our resurrection is a re-creation of our bodies into imperishable ones.

Perhaps not his "greatest" idea, but Paul's idea that the identity and significance of Jesus was concealed in the Hebrew holy scripture and revealed only when translated into Greek, and in this way slipped past the archons and angels who mediated them to the prophets, is quite a significant one!

That is a heavy statement with profound implications that is nowhere explicitly said in Scripture.

Mr. Tabor, I was wondering if you might have some thoughts about something I heard. You mentioned that Paul says there was an appearance to "500 people" at once. Apparently some scholar suggested that corresponded to the Day of Pentecost in Acts. It does seem like it would be very odd if it were never mentioned anywhere else in the New Testament. Could Pentecost have been thought of as an appearance of the risen Christ at one time? I have thought this was a thought-provoking idea.
Several followers. My mother appeared to a niece first, still does, me, and at least 7 relatives first 3 months after her death. Even now this August, 10 years after her death.
Great video as always. Not sure if you’re familiar with La Luz del Mundo (“Light of the World”) church, but I was definitely taught that resurrection was a spiritual transformation. I’m no longer a member for several other reasons having to do with the church’s views of its leaders (considered “apostles”), but very interesting that my restorationist nontrinitarian church basically got this view of resurrection consistent with Paul compared to most Christianity.
It seems like Mormonism is also typically nailing these teachings of Paul in comparison to mainstream Christianity
@@JRN-ef1ww Eh… not exactly. Joseph Smith’s theology was all over the place and he was consistent revising his doctrines, often adopting the views of various contemporaries (such as Emanuel Swedenborg, Ethan Smith, etc.) rather than anything actually resembling Pauline Christianity.
The actual reason why Paul tells different stories to different people is he is either Cain himself or a zealot of Cain! Cain, Adam, and Eve still walk amongst us today! After Cain was marked by God to be a restless wanderer on earth until judgment he and his clan have been molesting the Bible for centuries! God, Adam, and Eve all 3 said if you eat from the tree of good and evil you will die that day! God doesn’t lie! What they don’t tell you is Genesis, chapter 2, verse nine next to the tree of good and evil there was also a tree of life! Which is actually the spring of life because Jesus is the tree of life! Because it says from the spring, a river flowed out of and water the garden of Eden! Genesis chapter 3 verse 22. The Lord God said, since man has eaten from the tree of good and evil, you must now reach out your hand and take and eat from the tree of life and live forever! I know people like to say spiritually died, but that’s a lie. People need to take God off of that imaginary leash! God is the god of every single thing is possible not just watch stupid people think! I was commenting before watching everything like a student would ask a question mid sentence. I agree with what you are saying. But also think that the physical body wasn’t left behind for other rational reasons and implications if not just to just give further evidence of the power of Jesus, the Father and the Holy Spirit.
Thank you, Dr. Tabor. I agree with you that the dead will not be resuscitated. It makes no sense to raise decaying bodies in various stages of decomposition. They will be given new bodies and the scriptures substantiate this. I feel that faith is the key. Science dismisses faith but I feel it's the essential element, the missing link, or piece to the puzzle that the wise and intellectual often fail to see. 🧚♀

Paul spoke about a physical resurrection of Christ, but for the rest of us "at the end of the age" it would be a spiritual resurrection when we die. To understand what is going on, we need to understand how Paul viewed the afterlife. He thought that when we "fall asleep", we go to the grave/Sheol just like everybody else did up to that time. But at the end of the age, something will fundamentally change. He was looking forward to it. Sheol will no longer be involved.

What about the "second death" (Rev 21:8) described in Revelations - how does it make sense that the dead become resurrected in glorified spirit form only to die a second time? There's also the resurrection of both the righteous and unrighteous (Acts 24:15), which seems at odds with idea of the resurrection to spirit form.
As someone who "came" to Jesus only at the age of fifty, I am grateful for this because the infrastructure I received in Judaism exists specifically to hold the first commandment

I recall the exact time when I understood fully that Jews have their own very valid reasons for not converting to Christianity. I was reading "Man's Search For Meaning" by Viktor Frankl,and "Souls On Fire" by Ellie Wiesel. As someone raised Christian/Catholic,I now know that they have a terrible time seeing Judaism with the Christian-colored glasses off. Judaism is not Christianity part 1. Not every Christian. There have been Unitarians from the beginning, like Paul, Peter and James for example.
One example of Non-Trinitarian Christians who believe accurate scholarship will help understand the Bible is "Biblical Unitarians". One British man, Sir "Anthony Buzzard" has been tirelessly trying to speak to all people, fellow Christians, Muslims, Jews, non-Abrahamic faith believers, about the Trinity and how it seems to be a historic impossibility that any of the Apostles or authors of the New Testament every knew of it or wrote of it.
He is the reason I was able to completely see and understand that the Trinity is simply not found in the New Testament at all, nor even the idea of Jesus being God become a man. If it wasn't for him tirelessly trying to put this information out for non-academics I would never even have known who Jesus's identity even is in scripture

It always amazes me how if Paul was such a monumental figure that there is no mention of him before he came on the scene. Surely Jesus would've spoke of one who would come if it was to be the case. But I think Jesus did speak of him with the words, "many will come in my name..."

Judaism believes in the physical resurrection. It's part of the 13 principles of faith.

Love your exposition on this complex and confusing topic. I listened twice carefully to not miss a thing. Don’t know if Jesus appeared in a body that allowed him to eat and like Paul, I’m not giving importance to his corpse having walked out of a tomb. I don’t care if he could eat with the apostles although very interesting and remarkable. I care more that we can live again and be clothed in glory after death and have an eternal home with him and God.

Yes. I’ve read the Bible and know it says that. If it happened it’s awesome and remarkable. Dr Tabor says it possibly wasn’t a biggie in Paul’s mind. Jesus appeared to him in a glorified body and that’s what he wrote about.

I find it so interesting that Paul tells us that Jesus was not human at the time of Paul’s revelation. Such a massive implication for modern day faith. Thank you for the talk Dr. Tabor.

Paul is just saying here that he did not receive this news from any other person, he heard it first hand from Jesus.
Christians have always differentiated between resuscitation (Lazarus) vs resurrection (Jesus). Paul being a Pharisee, would definitely have chosen the immortal resurrection path, Paul's contribution is recognizing the supreme priority of Jesus since he was the first resurrected (within the Jewish context, not greek).
I think Paul had a mystical union. During this encounter with the Almighty he gained insight into the fact that Jesus is an evolutionary catalyst. Christ was/is meant to help humanity make a paradigm shift in which conscience is king not psychopathic leaders. Thank you for tackling the voodoo magic sadly associated with some forms of Christianity. I have some short insightful videos on my channel that speak to the truth Paul and others intended to convey but did not have the conceptual language that we have in this modern era.
Jesus is NOT the Almighty
I interpret Paul similarly. The Ebionites who did not like Paul basically say that Jesus had a unio mystica with the Holy Spirit but was not God, instead was the Adam before the division into male and female. And Paul is claiming a union mystica with Jesus.
I take the concept of unio mystica as a real phenomenon, as people have this experience all the time.
I personally have had such an experience. Which is too complex to explain because it lasted several days. And the only anthropomorphic symbol of those visions was the Buddha, though much of the visions were in Christian terms. And I somewhat tried to rationalize via Jungian psychology. But the point is such experiences are very real and human beings use whatever language they can to convey such experiences.
But the fact that Paul instructs congregations how to have a similar experience, and the fact that the Ebionites had a different instruction “to become Christs”. Gives me a clue that they were trying to induce the experience.
And the experiences themselves are “facts” whether you interpret it as a “psychological fact”in modern times or a spiritual fact in ancient times. Or go to India and meet people who became “bride of Krishna” it’s the same phenomenon.
Meaning a union with a greater being, greater self, greater than your ego, shattering your sense of self etc.
I don’t mind atheists debunking the dogmatic myth. But it is really weird to me that they can’t grasp that what IMO was being referred to was very real.
Within a couple hundred years from this period those having real experiences are considered heretical as a dogmatic creed gets established.
I also was struck recently when I looked at the Ireneaus heresies, that the Marcionists who were followers of Paul were accused of “using the ideas of Empedocles”. Empedocles was also called a God-man philosopher. Empedocles is still revered by one modern religion, the Druze who keep their religious practices secret. But the Druze inspired Sufi Islam which is another practice of unio mystica.
But it’s important here to understand what Empedocles taught. Empedocles claimed that ontogenesis under the power of Love results in creation of perfect entities. In other words Love transforms the body.
Without Love according to Empedocles a person is enclosed in an unfamiliar tunic of flesh and an exile from the territory of harmony and serenity. So what we know of Empedocles is that through purifications and meditation on Love the tunic of flesh transforms. So this accusation against the Marcionists seem to suggest that the resurrection of the Body was an experience of spiritual transformation within their bodies. They thought they were gaining a new body and new spirit which is called ontogenesis.

I managed to negotiate the related changes in brain chemistry and went on to discover what had happened. I concur with you about the experience being accessible to many more than we know. I think Paul was written in the first person by a Roman-controlled Flavian god temple priest’s jewish maybe enslaved scribe about mid 0070’s or so
I think Paul switched sides and said whatever was needed to accomplish those ends.
I think it’s also interesting that Peter (1st and 2nd) and James do not say anything about seeing the risen Jesus in their epistles.
And the Apostle Paul was the last desciple to be called by Jesus Luke 18:22. I believe he was also present at the time of the baptism of Jesus Christ, because he would have known about John the Baptist and everything he said concerning the Messiah, which could have prompted him, as a Pharisee of pharisees, to seek out validation from him in Luke 18.
1) The rich young ruler's main concern was to "inherit eternal life " vs 18. He judged himself worthy because he believed he had been obeying all the laws.
2) He had been listening to Jesus's teachings and was convinced that he was a man of authority, though, he wasn't ready to accept the fact He could be the Messiah, so he approached Jesus in a condescending manner- as he was a pharisee and they believed themselves to be above everyone else. So, he sucked up to Jesus by calling Him "Good Master ". Jesus saw through him and responded in a way that means He was God, if Paul believed that He was good, and went on to poke holes in his legalistic beliefs- he believed he never committed adultery, but Jesus taught that to just look on a maiden lustfully already constituted a breaking of the law, so was bearing false witness, which they were notorious for, but wouldn't admit to, so he was indirectly stealing from the temple coffers in the name of doing business for God Galatians 1:14; as was not honoring their fathers and mothers in the name of bringing offerings to the temple etc. and finally, told him to get rid of the source of his pride: his wealth, and distribute to the poor, as they usually pretended to do to look good before the people. He wasn't ready to even exchange that to gain eternal life, which Jesus understood (and gave him time before answering his calling vs 22).
He began to follow Jesus from then onwards, persecuting Him just to get physical proof on Him as a fraud. I believe he was behind all the questions to get Jesus to break the laws- including paying taxes (Jesus was called the Son of David, David and his house have been tax exempt by King Saul, for slaying Goliath, by this they're negating His relationship with King David, hence, cannot be the Messiah, they even insult Him of being born of fornication, as Mary got pregnant before getting married John 8:41 etc.)
3) I believe he spearheaded the group that deceived Judas to betray Him, and those they bought to shout "crucify him " over and over again until Jesus was crucified on the cross. He really did persecute Jesus and by so doing, get to follow Him as other desciples, learning from His teachings all along, even sneaking behind to witness the last supper to confidently say he received it of the Lord
1 Corinthians 11:23, to make hin an Apostle born out of due time - long after his calling 1 Corinthians 15:8.
3) His anger made him turn his his back on his own life, and began to persecute everyone linked to Jesus, from Stephen up till the time he fell off his high horse- so to speak, and was forced to come to reality of who Jesus Christ really was- The Son if man(David), The Son of God, which he knew all along but his legalistic mind was resisting it: he finally called Jesus "Lord", though subconsciously, but he always knew He was Lord when he heard His voice again Acts 9:4-5.
After this, he became so overzealous enough to begin to let everyone know that "Jesus was the Son of God, and the Messiah" vs 20,22. He began to immediately experience persecution himself, which got him to Arabia, where he had ample time and opportunity to review all the proof he had collected while he was persecuting Jesus 2 Timothy 4:13. He could even have been the naked young man, who was used to entrap JesusChriston the night of His arrest. Mark 14:51-52. (That was why he could write with so much understanding of the Lord in all his epistles).
4) Philippians 3 was where he finally came to terms with the fact that all his wealth could not be exchanged for the knowledge of Christ and gaining eternal life- his all life pursuit Luke18:18! This came at a price though - he lost all his fortune, that he wasn't willing to give up at that time: Luke 18:18-30, calling them "dung." But now, forgetting all his past life and pressing towards the prize of the "high calling " of Jesus, as he now sees it!
That was why it was easy for the other desciples to extend to him the right hand of fellowship as the Apostle of the gentiles Galatians 2:9.
That was also why he could withstand the other desciples when they were preaching the law and circumcision together with the grace of God in Christ Jesus in Acts 15. Immediately after preaching in the synagogue that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, Acts 9:20-22, God sent Barnabas to help him fulfill his calling, and spread the gospel if salvation to both Jews and gentiles, especially the gentiles.
The gospel of the salvation of our souls is simply by grace through faith in the sacrificial death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the completed work of the cross that no one can add to or remove from by doing good or bad. The Holy Spirit was sent to guide, teach, interpret, and keep until the end, John 14:26. Thus, He quickenes the believers and takes them all up at rapture. Until then, we give ourselves to studying the scriptures to make ourselves approved unto God as workmen that need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth-daily!
That was the reason why the Apostle loved his Jewish brethren so much that he wouldn't mind being accursed, as long as they can all (the 12 tribes), be saved! Romans 9:3!
That was the reason he endures so much beatings and maltreatment from the Jews, who really hated him, but he continued to concern himself with them, even took up collection of money for the Jewish belivers, even though he was sent to the gentiles-39 stripes 5 timed, got shipwrecked, got bitten by a venomous snake, but like the Duracell battery, he still kept going strong till the end! How stinky and painful and full of putrefying sores, his body must have been, yet he kept on going...
So he ran and finished his course and ensured that the outcast tribe of Benjamin, finally has a place in the body of Jesus Christ, and will sit with Him on the right hand of the throne of God, in heavenly places!
He made and left us all a legacy, so we can all make it. Thus, he is free from the blood of everyone who rejects so great a salvation story!
I have wondered about when Paul said Jesus appeared to the twelve, did he include Judas? Did Paul know that Judas had died? Or was Judas supposed to have died afterwards? Or was he talking about Matthias who replaced Judas?
I would guess, and this is just from the testimony of the gospels and Acts, that Paul was not including Judas who died within 3(?) days of his betrayal.
Our vile or lowly body isn't our individual physical bodies, but humanity in its current divided and unreconciled state; and it is changed into His glorious body "according to the working (which is love) whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself."
We are the Body of Christ, so to see the Lord is to see that Body, and seeing and loving it, is its Spirit, which is why Christ was revealed within Paul, and within us his many members.

I have a big question!
Why do we have just the letters supposedly from Paul, but we don’t have any correspondence from the Corinthians for example to Paul! Or any other church that apparently he founded? I wonder if Paul ever existed!
We don't have those first person statements because the disciples didn't write them down in first person.
Both Matthew and John wrote their gospels in the third person. For example John would mention things that happened to him as happening to "the disciple who Jesus loved" speaking in the third person. This is universal in the gospels.

This was such a great video! I see quite a few parallels between Paul's view of resurrection and various bhakti traditions in Hinduism where following the path of loving devotion to a deity will lead to enlightenment. Indeed I imagine the early disciples a lot like Hare Krishna's :) Especially the stream that went on to influence the Gnostics.
It's also so interesting to see how many of the ancients viewed the body as base and wanted to get replace it with one made of finer heavenly materials.
Jews have a great history of finding their way to the top of non-Jewish civilizations, often (it seems) with the God-given goal of tearing the civilization down for its crimes against Jews, or against their god. I think Paul saw the Christ network as his ladder up to the top of Rome, and bluffed his way in with a big story.
I think the resurrection is a corporate mission statement-e.g. "If we act to bring Christ's teachings to life, we become his literal, physical presence in the world."' I think the gospels are probably revolutionary fiction.

The oceans in this place are definitely physical, not some kind of spiritual realms referred to by the word "oceans". The souls of those who had been drowned in the oceans are already detached from their physical bodies and are in the spiritual world. And these souls, of course, can't be contained in physical oceans. Hence, the only things that the physical oceans can give up are exactly the physical containers of the souls of those who had been drowned, in other words, their physical bodies, or, more precisely, the physical elements that used to constitute their bodies and that are now assembled together into those bodies once again for the resurrection, that is, for the reunification of a soul with its physical body.

I often disagree with James Tabor, but in this I think he is spot on. The only way to read Paul’s idea of resurrection is as occupying a new (pneumatic) body. This was the original view.

The resurrection is the central and original message. Not the forgiveness of sin by the death on the cross or justification by belief. All that is a distortion of the original message. Lo and behold those texts so misused are also not genuine Pauline.
Excellent as always. A small observation and an implicit question. Maybe the need for a physical resurrected body comes from the fact that at some point Christianity accepts the notion of the immortality of the soul. If you say that the resurrection is not resuscitation, you create confusion in the believers' minds. If the resurrected body is not physical, how is that different from the soul? And since the soul is immortal and upon the death of the body it returns to god (or goes to hell or purgatory-- but that's another story,) then you must find a way to differentiate between resurrection and the flight of the soul. Therefore the easiest way is to imagine the resurrection of the physical body. In the case of Jesus, after death he miraculously appeared to several people and since he was known to have made miracles before, then it's easy to also believe that he appeared and disappeared at will, with his physical body. Like magic.

Always curious why Peter gets far less attention than Paul?
Simple: Peter never wrote anything, that we have, his two communications consist most glaringly in praising Paul, a dead giveaway a Pauline wrote Peter's letters decades later to extol Paul and no one else. Will There Be Eating and Drinking?
Rav, one of the prominent Talmudic Sages, used to teach:1 “[The World to Come will not be like this world.] In the World to Come, there will be no eating nor drinking nor procreation2 nor business nor envy nor hatred nor competition; rather, the righteous will sit with their crowns on their heads3 and delight in the radiance of the Divine Presence, as in the verse,4 ‘They beheld G‑d, and they ate and drank.’ ” (Rashi understands this last phrase to mean that the Jews at Sinai were just as sated by the radiance of the Divine Presence as if they had eaten and drunk.)
Chapter 3 above has already discussed the difference in conception between Rambam and other thinkers as to the meaning of the “World to Come.” According to Rambam, the above description refers to the presently-existing World of [disembodied] Souls, whereas in the future World of the Resurrection there will be eating and drinking and so on.5 However, most authorities6 hold that Rav is saying that after the Resurrection, though souls will then be reinvested in bodies, there will be no eating and drinking.7
In response to this majority opinion, Rambam argues8 that it is absurd to consider that G‑d would create a body equipped to perform physical functions such as digestion and reproduction in an era in which they will be extinct. One of the fundamental principles of the faith is that G‑d does not create anything without a purpose. If there will be no need for physical functions, there will be no purpose for a physical body.
Ramban in Shaar HaGemul9 refutes this argument at length. Firstly, there would be nothing novel in Rav’s teaching if he was simply referring to the World of Souls. Moreover, after the Resurrection the body will attain the status of the soul, and will be sustained by spiritual sources rather than physical ones. This phenomenon is not new: Moshe Rabbeinu experienced it when he spent forty days and nights on Mt. Sinai.
The above view of Ramban is supported in the teachings of chassidic philosophy.10 The Rebbe explains11 that in this world body and soul are connected by means of food and drink, whereas in the World to Come, the body itself will derive sustenance from the light of the Shechinah. At the same time, this does not mean that there will be no eating or drinking. Rav’s statement, that in the World to Come there will be no eating or drinking, means that eating and drinking will not then be necessary to keep soul and body together. However, there may be eating and drinking, though for a different purpose.12
The above explanation also resolves a seeming contradiction in the Talmud. On the one hand it is taught13 that in the World to Come, G‑d will prepare a festive meal for the righteous with the meat of the Leviathan, and most authorities understand this not as a metaphor but as an actual feast.14 If so, does this not contradict the teaching of Rav with which this chapter opened?
In an attempt to accommodate both positions, some authorities maintain that this meal will take place in the Messianic era that precedes the Resurrection.15 However, according to those who maintain that it refers to the time of the Resurrection, how can there possibly be physical eating?16 According to the above explanation, however, although in the World to Come eating will not be needed to fuse body and soul, it will still remain a possibility - though for a different and higher purpose, such as the feast of the Leviathan.17
Will there be a Day of Judgment after the Resurrection?
1. Ramban18 answers Yes: on that Day every individual will be judged according to his deeds.
2. Abarbanel19 argues that since everyone is judged after death, there is no reason for any additional judgment after the Resurrection. When the Sages speak of a Day of Judgment in time to come, i.e., after the Resurrection, they mean a day of punishment and revenge - but not of further judgment.
3. The AriZal20 says that once a soul has already won atonement by experiencing Yom Kippur, and suffering, and reincarnation,21 there is no reason that it should be judged further on a Day of Judgment. Rather, the classical references to the Day of Judgment speak of the judgment of the nations of the world.
Will Death Survive the Resurrection?
After the Resurrection, death will be no more.22 Even according to the literal understanding23 of the verse,24 “for [at that time] the youngest will die a hundred years old,” it does not apply to the Jewish people, for whom death will no longer exist. It refers to Noachides,25 and even then, not to actual death, but to death as a metaphor signifying a fall in the level of one’s spiritual attainment.26
How Long will the World Exist?
There is a well-known teaching of R. Katina,27 “The world will exist for 6000 years and for/in one [thousand] will be destroyed, as it is written,28 ‘And G‑d will be exalted alone on that day.’ ”
Some commentators suggest29 that the destruction is literal: after 7000 years the universe will revert to its original state of nothingness. Others hold30 that this is a reference to the era of Resurrection: the Evil Inclination will then be destroyed and removed from the world and there will be no more observance of the mitzvos. Still others31 interpret the “one of destruction” as a reference to one of the six millennia. (If so, this could well be a reference to the millennium of upheaval in which we are living.) There is also a debate as to whether the Halachah confirms the statement of R. Katina32 or not.33 Indeed, the Kabbalists speak of 50,000 Jubilee cycles through which the world will proceed in its process of elevation.34
Jesus told Mary not to touch him when she saw him because he had not returned to his Father yet. So maybe after his corpse was resurrected he had to return to God to finish the transformation. So he looked different when he visited Paul much later. Also, Jesus didn’t visit him in person but in a vision.
Judge by fruit. What was pauls fruit?
I would cite Jesus post resurrection sitting and eating yet passing through walls as an idea not an absolute that he appeared in the form of what they perceived to be Jesus and that is the main point. They are to testify that He is alive from the grave that all of us must face. Death is thus defeated, where is it sting as Paul would say. Take for an OT example of Abraham making a meal for the angelic visitors who came to announce the birth of Isaac. So looking human or fleshy doesn't mean you are flesh. Jesus told Mary at the tomb to not touch Me. My struggle which probably for the rest of my life as a believer in Yahshua is that He currently has locatity meaning He comes from a very real Throne that has locality. Ponder this if he is a life giving sprit. He isn't everywhere at the same time as we have been told God is everywhere at the same time. He knows all things and in a sense sees all things but how can He be everywhere at the same time?

I havent see one piece of convincing evidence from this guy that Mark is the First greek gospel. But he swears up and down it is. Hes free to do as he pleases but I dont think hes right. @@andrewclemons8619 if there is such a Hebrew gospel that Papias attributes to Matthew, then Matthew that we possess is certainly not it. It shares direct literary tradition with Mark, and frequently agrees verbatim in the greek for paragraphs on end. This would not happen in a text whose underlying source is of a different language.

Actually there are Hebraisms in Mark and Matthew. ( Mark 1:6 and Matthew 3:4) there a one letter difference in the Greek word for locusts and Manna. We have a later translation of the the Hebrew matthew called the Shem Tovs Hebrew Matthew and in it says John ate Manna. So that shows a mistranslation from Hebrew to greek. Paul's "born out of due time " implies his being in the same gestational period with the 11 desciples, but delivered into his ministry after them.
Paul, because of his zeal for the law of God, would have been one of the desciple of John the Baptist, as were Andrew, Peter etc., but followed Jesus Christ when He was made known to be the Messiah - the long-awaited Son of God, during His baptism, when the heavens opened and they heard God's voice. Matthew 3. He needed proof and got it only after the arrest, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
(I believe that he was the naked young man in Mark 14-51-52, persecuting Jesus till the end, for claiming to be the Messiah, the Son of man (David), and the Son of God!).
Although he considered himself as an equal with the other desciples 2 Corinthians 12:11-12; Galatians 2:8; Ephesians 3:1-12; 1 Timothy 2:7; Philippians 3:7 etc. If not even better than them, by his deferred calling Luke 18:18-22, he even recognized the voice of Jesus Christ on his way to Damascus. He answered him, "Lord...!" Acts 9:5.
I also believe that Apostle Paul had an encounter with both Apostle John and Daniel. Daniel 8:13; 2 Corinthians 12:2-10; Revelation 10:4, by His out of body experience of the unveiling of all hidden mystery of God, at the end of the age.

Just Paul’s approach to the Christ unveils him as of Phrygian religious descent. The Pharisees was obviously phrygians and was experts with plants and substances. I don’t think we can put limits on God. If Jesus Christ was born of Spirit and body, then why can’t he come back us spirit and body? There is more than one truth concerning the world. If a Buddhist knows there is a soul, then we have a same truth, however our truth is different about the soul than theirs. If someone says the soul stays in the body when you die, then that is different than what we think of the soul when we die. Jesus Christ and John the Baptist taught repentance that our souls return to God. If our souls are in sin , our souls are corrupted and therefore need repentance. I pray that the Jews would honour Jesus but remain in their identity so they don’t have to glorify Him. The could honour their Rabbi on this what Jesus said “Salvation is of the Jews.” The Jews retain their blessing in this . But He had more in this to love your enermy. Who has done this? Christian or Jew? Who has the maturity to do so as all opposition is political and history is full of jealousy. Jealousy is the fear of not been perfect and there is only one whom is perfect- God. God the creator. He possesses everything, unlike our sin jealousy whom fight over everything. The competition that comes from jealousy is sin when we complete for riches, but the competition that comes from God’s jealousy is we return to Him when we repent one is sin and go to Satan or repent and go to God.
I an from the Coptic Church, but I’m not Egyptian. I pray the Jewish faith would honour Jesus and to keep their identity they do not have to glorify Him. Then out of Egypt they go to the Father as this is fair when Jesus says nobody comes to the Father except by me. Honour is fair and you don’t have to love your enemy. If this was brought about then the Jewish faith would find out who their true enemy was. The true enemy’s will be revealed and Christians would stop trying to convert the Jewish faith if the Jewish faith honoured Jesus.

We've already put on the Fathers incorruption and immortality. Once you die to self you will never expierence death again. Physical death of our outer tent has no effect on us, we walk right into the hereafter. We live forever as Jesus taught us. The gospels were literary spiritual allegory that became literalized over the centuries by the catholic church.
Flesh and blood cannot enter the kingdom. It will rot in the ground. We are already given our spiritual body when we are born from above. As paul tried to explain in i Cor. 15.
Jesus was resurrected in the garden of Gasthemene like we all are. When we die to our own will to the Fathers will. There was no physical body resurrection of Jesus that tomb story was added later. Jesus was explaining that he was resurrected while in his physical body, a new man a new creation. Like all Sons are. Romans 8:11.

The worst thing is knowing the truth and not 1 person would believe it! Good is possible of so many things that we can not begin to understand him! Everyone says that they believe God is possible of anything! The problem is people have more “faith” in man and in the “book”“bible” that was written mostly by 1 murderous man, than they have in God! It clearly says in Genesis that Cain would be a restless wanderer on earth and the ground would never produce its yield for him! Now I don’t understand why anyone would believe that God is not capable of punishing someone for savagely murdering his own brother, the first murder by beelzebub himself, coerced Cain into eating from the tree and then killing his brother! It’s very clear that Cain has walked this earth all through the Bible and history! Those who can not believe that God would not only be capable of doing that or that he wouldn’t do that! I believe in what you said that for Paul, resurrection is not just "flesh and bones" standing from the grave, but it is a renewed non-physical glorified spiritual body just like Jesus Christ. I'm a former skeptic who always watched Bart Ehrman, Carrier, Price, etc. But the spirit has opened my eye, and he used your teachings that led me to my Faith in Christ. Interestingly, Paul doesn't mention a tomb. He only says that Jesus was buried. He doesn't say when, where, or how the burial occurred. He knows nothing about the Gospels' burial in a rich man's borrowed tomb, of sleeping Roman guards, of grieving women finding the rolled-away stone, or of angelic messengers. Paul says Jesus died and was buried and rose after that. Jesus could have been buried in a tomb, a pit, or a grave in the soil - Paul doesn't specify which.
Paul's writings are about the closest thing to God speaking to man face to face.
You can probably use those writings alone and bring peace to Earth.

When you refer to "Christ" it is not someone's name or title, it is a state of being anointed. Therefore not Christ (with a capital letter as a name or noun) but christ or anointed. If one delves deep into the actual meaning of Greek words not the assumed translation, scriptures are really opened up. Therefore, when you say "Jesus Christ" it means "Jesus anointed" or "Christ Jesus" is "anointed Jesus". The Lord's prayer is a wonderful example of a mis translation, but one must investigate each word. All this can be found if one looks into eg Bible Hub to find the actual translation of each word, not the assumed translation. Also, is a word a: noun; first person singular; verb; adverb etc, and whether "a" or "the" actually are present in the original.
And why is Paul his only witness. He showed himself to the woman and then to the Apostles. So why are you saying he is the first witness?

The Gospels was written after Jerusalem was destroyed. The Apostles were writing letters to the congregations before the Gospels was written. Because after the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD. The Jewish practice of animal sacrifices ended when the Romans destroyed the temple in Jerusalem. With the temple gone, there is no longer a place for the sacrifices to be offered according to the Mosaic Law. Did they make the Gospels up because they had no temple no more. No they didn't. The Gospels are proof of Jesus. The need for animal sacrifices no longer existed, for Christ had fulfilled the righteous requirements of the Law (Matthew 5:17). Animal sacrifices were merely a type of the perfect Sacrifice-the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29). The sacrifice of Christ paid the debt of sin for all mankind, both Jew and Gentile (Romans 1:16; Hebrews 9:12-15).
John was an eyewitness to Jesus and the destruction of Jerusalem and he received Revelation for the congregations of Christ!

Why didn't Peter and Paul and The Apostle John, the beloved flee to the mountains. They were writing letters to the congregations before the Gospels was written. Jesus is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. To the mountain of Jehovah. When Nero who was 666 or 616 destroyed Jerusalem in 70 AD and executed Peter and Paul. The Roman Empire the 6th Kingdom hunted all who worshiped God. John was the last man standing and congregations that received Revelation. Jesus told Peter and John what was going to happen them.
Jesus does choose who rules with him in his Kingdom. (Luke 22:28-30) John 13:6 Then he came to Simon Peter. After Jesus was resurrected these sealed ones was told to feed his sheep. The faithful slave. (Matthew 24:45-47)

The Apostle Peter and Paul was writing letters to the congregations before the Gospels were ever written. By about 70 AD they were executed and Jerusalem was destroyed. As long as the Apostle John was alive they believed Jesus was returning. But about 25 or 30 years later John received Revelation for the congregations. John probably was the Q source for the Gospels because he was an eyewitness to all about 70 AD.

@@strappedfatman7858 The three "Synoptic Gospels" are taken from the theoretical "Q", and John stands alone and unique, therefore not the "source", a.k.a. "Q". We get the word "synonym" from the same root as "Synoptic". These three were written before the destruction of the Temple between 50 and 70 A.D. John's Gospel was very close, but maybe slightly before the Temple's destruction. I can't verify it, but I think John wrote from exile on the island of Patmos. His Gospel was purposely written as explained in John 20:31 because the other Gospels did not fully declare the Divinity of Jesus Christ, the Son of God as the Synoptic Gospels tried to do.
This is why Jesus and John left the other Disciples at the end of John's Gospel.
John was there faithfully at the Crucifixion, Received Jesus' mother as his own, and followed Peter to the tomb and saw it empty. (John 20;1-9)
