I can relate to so many of your reverse culture shock experiences! When I moved back to Canada after living in Japan I definitely forgot how dirty and loud the buses could be in Canada. I did appreciate being able to take a phone call or have a snack on the bus though whereas in Japan it’s not very acceptable to do that. I also appreciated being able to ask for takeaway boxes in restaurants in Canada. Sometimes I found it tough in Japan with it being a finish your plate culture and not being able to get take away boxes!

Omg yes. I wish I would have mentioned the takeaway boxes. There were times I wish I could have taken some food but it’s really not common to do so 😂 The gesture is nice. And takeaway drinks. That giant drink i got, i took in a takeaway cup, and so i felt like I got two drinks out of the deal! Thanks for sharing! ❤️

Hey Kimber! Congratulations on your wedding and it's good to see you posting again! Reverse Culture Shock for me wasn't as big because I didn't really change (culturally, philosophically) over my time in Japan - I was pretty much the same person I was when I left New Zealand haha. But it was so weird being able to read the signs again! I get so used to Kanji signs constantly screaming in my face all the time, it felt so weird being surrounded by English again haha

Marsh so nice to see you back at the channel 😁 I can see that about you. You really did stay true to yourself. I’ve definitely been influenced by the culture here 😂 And that is a good point. It was weird being back in the US and knowing what everyone around me was talking about 😮 Americans tend to talk very loud, and I am one of them 😂 On a side note, new airbender coming out. Never thought i’d be excited about that but you definitely rubbed off on me 😂 glad you commented! Hope you’re well and thanks for reaching out :)

Great video! Yes we in the US do have large portion sizes and people on public transportation can be very rude.. and loud too! I like your perspective!😊

Hi 👋 Thanks for watching 😁 Glad you liked it. Even Americans do not need to leave the country to know that the portions are crazy 😂

    Welcome back, Kimber!
Congrulations to you and Rick on your marriage together, and I am happy to hear that the wedding worked out better than you expected!
But yeah, I imagine it would have been quite the shock re-experiencing the U.S.
I have heard that the U.S.'s medium sized portions are the equivalent of another country's large. XD
Perhaps you can make a video later on what sorts of things Japanese are interested from America, like in terms of souvenirs. :o
    Looking forward to more content!

Thank you! And thanks for watching 😁
You heard right 😂 Large here is medium in the U.S. I am starting to see a bit of a change though. For example, I saw that starbucks was selling venti sized drinks. Of course I believe that is the biggest you can get. I can’t imagine anyone drinking a trienta size here 😂
I’m curious to hear more about the video idea you suggested. Could you elaborate a bit more?
      Thanks!

@@kimberdesu140 Sure thing! At least to me, let's say if I were to travel to Canada, I'd buy some Maple Syrup as a souvenir. Or if I were to travel to Australia, I would buy a boomerang. The stuff I would buy as an American tourist from a foreign country. Now, if I were a Japanese tourist visiting America, what would the people back in Japan would enjoy receiving?
Is souvenir shopping for coworkers not as much as a big thing nowadays?

I can't watch the wedding. For some reason I always break down. My wife says I'm a big teddy bear. Congratulations though! Glad I found your channel.

Could not agree more about the examples you gave for culture shock! Forget anyone being polite and considerate on public transportation (there are exeptions of course, but not many). Also, I don't get the restroom situation not being private. They might as well have exposed toilets without any doors for all the good the enclosures do. Sheesh!!

    • @kimberdesu140
      @kimberdesu140  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Actually there are times there aren’t even doors on the toilets. Like on camping grounds, at parks, and beaches. It’s madness, no thank you haha 😂

Seems like you are low key flexing for Japan while kinda trashing your native country…happy you love Japan, we get it.
