  • A smaller "rigid chain" chain for a smaller snake ( • Snake, Smaller. ), in its cartridge, smoothness test.
No lubrication, no springs, just gravity. My interest in this smoothness test of the model at this size is the reduction of current draw from the motor that will ultimately be powering this model.
Designed using Autodesk Fusion 360, sliced using Ultimaker Cura 4.8.0, and 3D printed in PLA on Ultimaker S5s.

Great work! I can see some application in projects that require a thin profile with quick linear action. Have tried a more rigid design for the chain? Say perhaps perpendicular links?

Any thoughts on using a Flexure for the chain instead of pins? A 0.4mm layer of PLA is really quite flexible.

      Hi Marty,
When used with the N20 gear motors I use in my designs, I attempt to minimize current draw on the motor. I tested a flexible "chain", but the current draw was too high.

      Hi The Poor Man's Can,
None at all, it came right of the 3D printer, I assembled the two chain sections together, inserted in the cartridge, and that was it.

      Hi GrandadsOtherChannel!
Yes it does after the mass of the chain outside of the cartridge exceeds the mass of the chain and friction inside the cartridge.
I can make a video of the effect if you want to see it!
