I'm still relatively new to the watch collecting hobby and have focused on affordable watches with the exception of a Grand Seiko Heritage Collection GMT I bought a couple of years ago when visiting Japan and still enjoying it. The sweeping second hand of the Spring Drive is 'butter' and I love it. Thanks Jory for the content as always.
That Seiko Chariot is beautiful. The Seiko quartz tank watches of later decades look identical, except for the text on the dial. And with only two hands you can't tell which is the mechanical and which is the quartz.
Really interesting. I actually bought one of these Seiko Chariot Tanks in Japan last month at a vintage shop. Didn’t realize it’s a Seiko Chariot, just thought a vintage tank from Seiko was cool. Thanks for giving more info on it! I also have a Grand Seiko Shunbun that I got in another trip to Japan. Try to pick up some cool watches every time I am there
In 1979 I paid £125 which was discounted price for a new quartz Seiko Mens dress watch brown lizzard strap gold case champagne dial - 2 hands no roman numerals. just markers instead of numbers. It only had the Seiko name no logo. It was so slim that only certain watchmakers had the tool to close the case after changing the battery. The watch disappeared when I moved house in 2004. From the above description can you tell me which model it was?
The infighting was something I didn't know, so thank you for disabusing me of my ignorance there! I'd love to see a full episode on the history of Seiko. I'm even almost tempted by a Seiko high-beat tank...
There seems a similar parallel - the inter-service rivalry between Imperial Japanese Army and Imperial Japanese Navy. And, sadly, the post-revolution split of the Prim watch brand which lasts to this day...
I don't think that Seiko as an org needs to be the watch for the masses any longer. They have Pulsar, Lorus, Alba etc to serve that market. So Seiko the brand is moving upmarket w most of their named lines incl Seiko 5. On a related note, the Epson entity has Orient and Trume. As a last point, I recently heard on a podcast that the rivalry between Suwa and Diani was not true. Urban legend debunked by a veteran Seiko executive. I'll be interested to hear more on that in the coming period.
I did enjoy this video, thanks. If a whole historical vid on the topic is doable, I would watch it. Something I would be interested in, if any such information is available, would be the people behind each of the 2 Seiko's. Both past, and present. We rarely get to know about the people behind such powerhouses of horology. Seems like we only get to know about the individuals behind current-day microbrands. I am sure there are named individuals behind Seiko, Rx, Citizen etc. etc.
Yes, please do a more in-depth video. Thanks!
Yes do a full episode on this topic!

I have a Suwa 4522-8000 Grand Seiko, running at 36000 bph, and it still runs well. I think many of them have a simple luxurious, classy design.
Yes and also more on these particular watches!

please do the full episode of this topic! 🤘🙌
I've got a round 2220, really nice, elegant and thin, roman numerals.
Yes, more history please.
Very nice and confusing, good job. Now you'll have to make a full episode on this subject 😅
Really been enjoying our videos lately!
Love the history lesson, but where does Credor fit in here?

I’d be interested in watching a full episode on the history of Grand Seiko & King Seiko!
I LOVE this history! Thank you.
Great episode, I'd enjoy a full history 💯

always .... learning on this channel... Awsome
I just bought my first rectangular watch - really like it.
you should do an episode on the Rolex King Midas
Any plans to review the new g shock rangeman gprh1000?
Long live the King...
I own 1 GS. My favorite watch.
Those are both beautiful watches. I think I would like to try and get a King Seiko. Got the rare factor
How about the 1973 Citizen Chryston
After listening to this my head hurts.
Do a fun video on them it would be interesting to watch though personally I like the kings
Maybe people are not buying as much as they thought. Circle face is still the popular choice.
2220 is popular, what happened with 2411? I have never held one.
Believe it or not, there are three hand models.
I did not ignore it. I bought one before everyone went gaga for it and now it's just overpriced.
bye bye grandpa watch
I blame Meat/The Patriarchy/Climate Change/MAGA for making GS drop this line.
I am interested in an excruciatingly long video on the topic of grand Seiko and King Seiko
