Biochemistry of ABO Antigens

- The ABO blood group system is used to denote the presence of one, both, or neither of the A and B antigens on erythrocytes.
Blood groups are inherited from both parents. The ABO blood type is controlled by a single gene (the ABO gene) with three types of alleles inferred from classical genetics: i, IA, and IB. The I designation stands for isoagglutinogen, another term for antigen. The gene encodes a glycosyltransferase-that is, an enzyme that modifies the carbohydrate content of the red blood cell antigens. The gene is located on the long arm of the ninth chromosome (9q34).

Very easy to understand! You explained this better than my lecturer ever did! 🤝🔥
great simplification , just one thing : the FUT1 encoded by H gene is in the locus of the 19th pair of chromosome ( A and B alleles are in locus of 9th pair ) :)
Gene for H antigen located on chromosome number:19th whereas for ABO it's on chromosome number:9
One mistake FUT 1 gene located on chromosome no. 19 not 9,
While explaining you said 19 but you written 9
Thank you sir, You have made a clear explaination of what others make so complicated. I like what you do and I think you should contine as you are clearly very talented.
Thanks Jo for appreciation... ready Glad to know this..
Keep sharing and supporting
Very good teaching skills. Made easy to understand the general idea of ABO blood group systems. Thank you.
thanks Martin for appreciation
Thanks ☺...may Allah(s.w.t) bless u and keep continue blessing u always with peace and happiness and all the sucess in ur life of this duniya and hereafter😊

Thanks a lot sir_ This topic had been irritating me. You made so simple and easy to understand_ ☺️
Thanks for appreciation..Glad it helps ✌️
Thank u for explanation of biochemistry of ABO antigen nd also for that H antigen.my blood grp is o -ve nd for these many yrs I was under impression that o blood type don't hv antigen.thanks again.
Thanks Kavya for appreciation.Glad to know that it helps....
BTW u have very rare and precious blood type.
@@hussainbiology It's my pleasure to appreciate u.Actually my mom is o -ve so do I.nd I actually feel blessed bcoz I can donate blood to anyone.😊
Yeah , u are truly universal donor.
Excellent 👍👍👍
thanks a lot 💕
Most welcome.. keep sharing and supporting..✌️

Thankuu so much...❤
most welcome
Thank you so much 💞
Thank you
Thanks for the explanation Sir.....but i'm confused a little bit. The last video I watched started started the O-oligosaccharide sequence with galactose and ended with fucose but yours starts with glucose before galactose. How's that?
Wtf why does he like but not answering your question?!
Superb sir very awesome way of teaching love it alot......... 👍👍👍
Thanks Doc for appreciation.... Glad to know that it helps
Sir make more n more videos on biomolecules and their metabolism
Surely i will be making videos on those topics too.
Bravo 👏
Great video. Thanks.
Very nice explanation dear Sir.
Thanks Mansoor for appreciation....
Mashallah ..... 😊
Jazakhallah teacher very understable method ......
thanks for appreciation..Glad to know that it helps

tysm
you are welcome ✌️
❤
What about individuals expressing both a and b alleles ?
If they are glycoproteins, where is the protein part?? I'm really confused :(
I think h locus of fut-1 gene is on chromosome 19 not chromosome 9
Yes, That's wright!
I like your videos... 💓Are you a professor in any university? 🙂
thanks Jecy.....i really appreciate ur words....and i am still a student yet ( have done my Masters in Zoology ) and now trying to get into research field.....😊😊😊😊😊😊
So Jecy ,,,,,What about you ???
+Hussain Biology thanks for the reply.. I want to do research too and I need help regarding my interest topics .... I am doing my final semester in Lifescience 😬(botany)
Oh That is great...... In India we need to clear CSIR NET to get admission into a prestigious University for Research program............
It depends upon you , where ur heart is devoted ,,,, May b u like Genetics , Mol Biology or Biochemistry or Plant Physiology........ According to me , the best field in Botany is to go for any Plant disease and research on that ( Which has not been researched yet lot ),,,,,,,,,,,,, or go for any core topics in the Plant Physiology which seems less hectic....
Cool
