I really like Baz, i think he's pretty badass.
It's kind of sad that the scene were Simon Baz used the ring to wake his brother in law out of a coma wasn't included, because that was a pretty good scene where Simon showed just how well he could wield the ring, since B'dg said not even Hal or Sinestro could force the ring to do that.

He wasn't completely forgotten before DC Rebirth. They still used Baz as a supporting character in the main GL series as someone who helped protect Hal's family and the Red Lanterns series as the GL ambassador (as Guy Gardner was a Red Lantern at the time). Also there was Waller and Trevor's Justice League of America and Green Lantern Lost Army.

+Comicstorian meh, Give me back Jon Stewart. As a former Marine, he fit into the Green Lantern Corps a lot better, and on the Justice League, he wasn't cocky and goofing off (like Flash and Hal).

1) It's NOT a universe reboot
2) It's giving the writers a chance to go back and use elements from the original (pre n52) story lines
3) It gives DC a chance to make a shit ton more money by releasing a bunch of 1st issue comics.

Jesse Bensen I mean, his story is rapped up in the stories of Hal, Kyle, Guy, & John. He wouldn’t be replacing anyone. Plus, I don’t see this as a “pandering for diversity” thing. I can’t think of a single middle eastern hero represented in anything other than Simon Bazz in DC Comics. & I think it would be important to have people hear the message that we should view individuals as individuals, not as one organization. I think bringing Simon Bazz into the DCEU would be great because while we have plenty black, female, asian, hispanic & disabled representation in media, we have none from the Middle East. This could be a moment to break ground & get people to think about the larger world they live in, which is what I think movies should be doing anyway.

Simon is an awesome character (I absolutely LOVE the fact that his arabic tattoo glows) with so much potential. But they cheapened him to Dollar Store levels simply by adding the idiotic,-totally-pointless-since-I-have-a-fucking-power-ring 9mm and that god awful fucking ski mask.
Every time I see that fucking My First Liquor Store Heist Mask I think of White Men Can't Jump..

I get that in Geoff John's run the suit is tailored to the mental state of the ring wearer, and yes, Simon WAS on the run when he first got his ring, so it does make sense (since he feels persecuted on all sides), but c'mon...there is a thing called "trying too hard" and those little additions fit the bill.
A simple domino mask would have sufficed...unless the standard comic book secret identity logic of the past 40 years has suddenly been changed and I didn't get the memo...
Fuckin gun and a ski mask on a GL! smh lol...Why don't you just add a crack pipe and a brown bagged bottle of Colt 45 while you're at it?
Really hoping they leave the tropes behind and get down to exploring everything Baz has to offer besides being a convenient plot vehicle for contemporary social issues.

I didn't and still don't know that much about Baz but he looks like a really interesting Lantern. Can't wait to see more about him.
I really wish Simon's origin was been written differently; He is a muslim that has to constantly deal with the stereotype that he's also a terrorist and decides to give in to that idea and somehow that qualifies him for the green lanterns.
I think they should have made him someone who fights against the terrorist stereotype, rather than giving in to it. Now maybe make his arrest a false accusation, based solely on racism, as an excuse to take him to Guantanamo bay.
Also remove the mask on his costume.
Deka Red agreed, I mean he still stole the car and the police/jury have reason to believe he was going to commit a terrorist attack, I also agree on the mask, don't get me wrong, I'm all up for a new green lantern costume design, but why would he wear something that would make him look like a criminal?

Honestly, I always thought DC's universe tried to underplay some current events that aren't easy to work with. Marvel did a 9/11 story that incorporated the events into their fictional universe, I'm not aware if DC did too but I guess that they could have just made it canon in the new 52 reboot.

There is much more diversity in comics than the normals could ever know. The greatest thing is that there is no hoopla over it.

Dovley Hutchinson AGREED, is Simon my favorite green lantern? No, is there problems with his backstory? Definitely, but at least, they didn't kill off John, the original green lantern, Hal or Guy just to bring in his replacement, looking at you Asian hulk and black iron man.

DC didn't really forget about him he shows up a couple times more in comics but not too much and it's clear they want to bring this character into the spotlight more which is good cause he's a really interesting character.

This was pretty good. I like the 911 touch with the stereotyping. I like that he's Lebanese because there are more races on earth than black, white and asian. I wanted him to tell the JL to bounce. Because really the ring was bestowed upon him from cosmic forces. Surely that trumps them. Why should he give it up if John, Hal, Guy or Kyle didn't?

WHAT I CAN IMAGINE FOR A NEW COMIC-BOOK STORY ABOUT (SIMON BAZ) GREEN-LANTERN:
Now I can imagine in a new type of Origin Story about character (Simon Baz) the future new GreenLantern; Is that he is a 16year old boy who lives with his 28year old sister, and both of them ended up orphans after their parents were killed in a big traffic accident, and I imagine that the traffic accident was do to a large disaster that had happened to certain areas on the freeway where their parents were at.
So anyway the two have been on their own since their parents had died, now Simon Baz’s big sister has two jobs one is as a nurse, and the other is as a driver for rich people, and to add I imagine (Simon Baz) has had just started his job at a restaurant as a chef’s assistant since Simon is good at fixing certain types of food specials on his own, and when Simon first met the chef by chance the chef noticed how good he was at fixing certain types of food dishes, and so that is why the chef hired Simon for a job as his student assistant in a restaurant he works at.
To add I imagine that the first name of Simon Baz’s big sister might be Autumn, or maybe her name might be something different that might represent a season like Autumn.
Plus to add I can imagine a scenario where (Simon Baz) accidentally gets mixed up with the wrong type of people, and those types of people are responsible for getting Simon in a whole allot of troubles; An I imagine how those people might do it an that is through tricky, manipulation, lying, and a tiny bit of torture, and it is because all of that I can imagine that it gets him forced to do a number of wrongful deeds from stealing cars, and stealing certain types of items of stuff as well.
This was interesting. They should give him his own book.

Here's what I hate about this, things like 11 September still happen, even if Superman want fast enough to stop the first æroplane he could've stopped the second one, and if the excuse was that he wasn't on earth that day there is always Wonder-Woman, the Martian Man-Hunter, Raven, Krypto, Supergirl, the Flash, Etc. All the Green Lanterns there is literally no reason for their political landscape to be identical to us, comic books basically tell us that superheroes are useless. At least Watchmen showed a world with the actual effects of superheroes.

+Biomechanoid not really identity politics (well it is but that's just one way to look at it). There is a growing numbet of comic book readers who are of ethnic minorities (not just American but globally) who are more likely to buy books that they can identify with. Its business more so than politics. Additionally, I as a reader enjoy a more progressive insentivised dynamic, that reflects growing trends and opinions. Also, considering the sheer amount of American lanterns you would think the that the rings are oddly biased to America! 😂
