    Forget your £5bn TV deals and £100m players living in palaces, THIS is what real football is all about! Goalkeeper playing in the Third Division on loan from another club, scores with the last kick of the game to keep a small (*edit: sp) *provincial team being relegated to oblivion. Jimmy Glass, now a taxi driver and a volunteer goalkeeping coach at Poole Town FC, a true footballing hero.

    Probably, in my opinion, the most amazing last second goal in the sport to date! I know people will say "What about Aguero, he won Manchester City the title?" That did win them the title, but this goal meant more. 70 years of play, the team is most likely going to disappear if relegated, and a goalie on LOAN comes up and scores in extra time to save the entire club?!?!?! The most mesmorizing moments I have ever witnessed... Coming from a Southampton fan I salute you Jimmy Glass for truly showing everyone why futbol is the most remarkable sport in the world.

      Zoomscoping Chesterfield fan, here.
      I cannot remember for the life of me who we played that day. I just remember having to leg it from the Rec to get to my 5 a side game, believing Carlisle were relegated.
      When I got to the 5 a side, people were gathered round a car with the radio and there was an excited buzz.
      “The keeper scored for Carlisle in the 95th minute!”
      Me: “...piss off!”
      But they weren’t pulling my chain - Jimmy Glass just saved Carlisle’s bacon and we were all made up for him. We might have all supported different teams but we were all Jimmy Glass that day!

    • @Sergio-ig1xd
      @Sergio-ig1xd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Zoomscoping, yes I agree with you that the Carlisle goal was more important. Aguero's goal would never have happened but for Paul Dikov's goal at Wembley in the play off final a few weeks after Jimmy Glass saved Carlisle. If we had failed to get out of div2 in '99, there would have been no takeover, no Aguero, no Silva21, no Yaya, no Pep, no KDB, no 100 points. We'd be in the Eccles and district Sunday afternoon pub league now.

    This is real English football to me. This is about passion for your local club, not money, trophies, awards or any of that peripheral stuff. No billionaire conglomerate foreign owners. No multi-million pound foreign players with no real understanding or allegience to the club or its fans beyond their massive paycheck. Most of all, this game is really about those loyal home town supporters who go to their struggling club's home and away games in the pissing rain to watch their team battle it out every week. This clearly meant more to Carlisle fans than the average Man Utd supporter will ever understand. I hope Jimmy Glass can look back on this with great pride, no matter what else happens in his life. Cheers from a Southampton fan.

I love how the carlisle fan they're interviewing for the piece gets choked up and is almost at a loss of words when describing the moment when Jimmy Glass scored, years after the fact. you must not be english, perfectly acceptable. jumping on a ref like that would require no apology. the ref would consider himself perfectly reasonable collateral damage to be part of it.

    I'm from shropshire and a Shrewsbury town fan but I jumped in the air when Jimmy scored! I was staying at a B&B on Warwick Rd with my girlfriend and watched the match. Amazing stuff and a great place is Carlisle. Happy memories for me. Used to go to Chaplins... wonder if it's still there.

    I remember listening to this on the radio, waiting to see if Carlisle would make it through. When they announced that Carlisle had won, the radio presenter, on hearing that the goalie had scored the goal, waited until the result was confirmed because, presumably, he didn't know whether to believe the goalie had actually scored it!! Then, finally it came through that it was true, the goalie had scored it. YES.

    I was 9 years old at the time, and at this match with my Dad. I am now 22, and I have lived in the States for 12 years now. I have NEVER forgotten what it was like to be at Brunton Park on that day. It was one of the most memorable days of my life, and I am so happy I was able to be a part of it. Makes me proud to be a Cumbrian, and I am a proud CUFC supporter :)

    You don't have to be a Carlisle United fan to appreciate what an amazing moment that was, although I can't imagine what it must have felt like in the ground!

    Let's not forget that was a perfect corner kick, a great on target header and a fantastic stop only to drop to the goalkeeper sent from heaven. Wonderful stuff.

    Saw him playing for Lewes Town a few years back and he us still living of that goal. It is what football is all about. No matter what the lows there is always a moment like that to keep you going back for more. Reminds me of Robbie Reinelt's goal for Brighton vs Hereford, which while not as late and dramatic, it did send Hereford down instead of us. This after we were miles adrift at the bottom of the table for ages.

    what i love is the ballboys, they jump up and down, then run towards the pitch and wonder if theyre allowed on, then they see everyone else mobbing the players and they think "yeah!" and run on too. Great stuff.
