- In this episode I travel to the ancient Pokekea megalithic site in Central Sulawesi. Besoa/Behoa valley is home to many stone statues and giant stone jars with lids known as Kalamba's.
Some of these megaliths are 4500 years old and human habitation and rice cultivation is dated as being 8000 years.
This place near Palu and Poso regency is reached by travelling from Napu valley or it can also be reached by walking through the jungle from Bada valley near tentena.
It is a very remote place in Indonesia and very mysterious ancient culture lived here that we know very little about.
They are hoping to get UNESCO world heritage status one day and I hope they will.
It is a very similar site to the plain of jars in Laos 🇱🇦

Thank you Sam for this channel. You are by far my favorite travel Indonesia vlogger. I want to offer you encouragement to keep doing your good work. I almost wrote (I rarely leave comments) when you did justice to Bunaken and paid tribute to Wallace, but at this point I've got to write this.
Your videos have interesting angles, are nicely edited with dramatic background music and thoughtful commentary. They are entertaining and educational with lots of National Geographic feel. I have no doubt that people will discover you, the content creator, just as they discover Indonesia through you.
Thank you very much for this comment and I am glad you have noticed these things. Keep watching for some very interesting things to share e
I really agree with Michael Pontoh your videos are interesting. Keep the good work.
Thank you for visiting my province.. thousands megaliths place Central Sulawesi.. The ancient place for over 4000yrs old.. Me and American husband will visit Napu and Behoa Valley on dry season this year.. thank you for sharing this wonderful trip.. Salaam from Luwuk Banggai🫶🏼
Orang Palu bilangnya “Ngeri” it means “Scarry” or How local react to something unbelievable and enchanted just like you said FASCINATING. UNESCO should see this!
Without Pak Sunardi we never knew there is something more in deeper of the jungle.
Bada valley, Besoa Valley, buffalo cave painting, Sulawesi indeed a paradise for archeologist.
Thanks Sam to virtually taking me to this beautiful mysterious place.
Yes, you are right. So many ancient and mysterious places in Sulawesi.
As Indonesian i have never thought Indonesia especially Sulawesi has something like this 😍
Only just discovered this channel, why have I wasted so much time watching Itchy Boots? This channel is far better, thank you Sam.
I hope the government will immediately protect and closely monitor this historical heritage
Wow, I think this place should be included in the UNESCO world heritage sites. You're very fortunate to be able to found this hiiden place👍👍👍.
You are right! I hope one day there is a proper national funded archeological dig done on this place. And UNESCO status is given.
Your repeating several time about UNESCO.
Glad you brought this out.. I totally agree this place should be in UNESCO list of amazing place. And should be preserve forever. It's really a lost Civilization and we can learned from it.
I believe that people who live here are ancestors to all the tribes and culture who currently scattered in every corner of Sulawesi. For Example, Like Minahasa people who burried their dead in a Stone with the Lid like an old Kalamba, or Mongondow People Who live in jungle and Burried their dead in a Stone Chamber Like Torajan People and Many other Similarities i didn't know.
I always wonder what happened in the past, is it a natural Disasters, Earthquake or Unknown Tragedy happened to them? What make them leave their home and never comeback to build City in this place?.
Maybe it will remain a Big Mysteries. that Nobody will know exactly what happened. we only can Guess with every possible explanation and theories we can think off.
Amazing Video and Inspiring travel Sam..i hope Someday i will experience this place by myself.
I wish you a good success and hopefully we can watch your new video on the weekly basis..
Yes the caretaker Pak sundardi said that dna of ancient bones found is matching with the Toraja, mamasa, Kajang, kali, Minahasa people. And probably all those people are dececndays of the Polynesian who came from Taiwan, perhaps the same people who eventually ended up in easter island. There is a lot more we have to learn about the past in Sulawesi. And the evidence is right there buried in the ground I’m sure. I read that natural disaster was drought that collapsed the population.
@@IndoWild polynesian is a branch of austronesian that lives exclusively in the eastern pacific. austronesian is the one who migrated from taiwan to the archipelagos.
indeed
Great video ❤Just wondering,,,Multiple civilization hàve lived around this area,, come and go,, dead by earthquake,, Natural disaster, disease,, political circums etc...who knows
huge fan of your channel, we went here a few years ago and you are correct the place need more research and protection, we saw a megalith along a stream that people just stepped on not knowing their significance. Indonesia is such a vast fascinating country
Luar biasa. Terima kasih sudah berkunjung ke Lembah Behoa. 🙏🙏🙏
Woww, this is my first time seeing foreigners doing vlog in central sulawesi, as palunesse, it's quite nostalgic, my late father was a history teacher in there in 99's. Central sulawesi or particulary sulawesi have MANY undiscovered ancient civilization, but's hard to doing the excavation bcz the limited resources. I hope one day, when the goverment have enough the resource, i hope behoa and napu can become one of the national treasure places in indonesia, just like in bali and java ancient civilization...
Terima kasih, Sam for virtually taking me to this fascinating, mystical Central Sulawesi TWICE!!! ❤❤
Regards from Malaysia 😎
Warmest greeting from the land of thousand megaliths Central Sulawesi
Glad you enjoyed it! Central Sulawesi is the mystical place for sure
@@IndoWild It reminded me the vibes of visiting Stonehenge years ago during my university days at Bristol University.
Yes there are many places like that actually.
Pemerintah lebih sibuk dengan candi di Jawa.... you know lah
Sam, I don’t want to sound like a broken record, so while like others I do appreciate the quality of your videography, narration, research etc I just want to specifically mention how I appreciate that unlike many foreign content creators you specify which province you’re in. Oftentimes, foreigners would say “Oh, I’ve been to Sumatra” without understanding that even neighbors like the Bataks of North Sumatra (patriarchal, mostly Christian, fun-loving) and the Minangkabau of West Sumatra (matrilineal, pious Muslim, enterprising) can be very different from each other.
Even Central Sulawesi alone is a lot bigger than countries like Croatia, Bosnia and Herezegovina, Denmark, Netherlands or Switzerland, so there’s so much to discover in each and every province in Indonesia.
Cheers and thank you for bringing Indonesia to the world! 🍻
Thank you very much for this comment. It means a lot to me that you notice this in my videos.
@@IndoWild thank YOU for appreciating these details that often go unnoticed by foreigners. It shows your level understanding of our country. Thank you again for showing us Indonesia through your POV 🍻

My 1st favorite part: 9:27-9:39
My 2nd favorite part: 23:26-23:28
Somehow, I was filled with the feeling of nostalgia seeing those parts (déjà vu?) even though I haven't gone there before. Must be because of the superb editing and shots. 😍
Top quality content. In one of your videos you mentioned living in Indonesia since several years - what do (did) you do for a living?
I work on various projects. In the power generation industry. Once project is finished I have lots of free time to shoot these video. Takes me a while to edit though.
Welcome to Celebes Sir👍
Bagus kontennya, semangat selalu... Tuhan Yesus memberkati 🙏🏿🙏🏿❤️
wellcome to central sulawesi
i m from palu.
danau meaning is lake
Wow, thank you very much...proud of you, I feel honored as a Palu person
Palu really is the hottest place on planet earth 🥵
@@IndoWild Yeah...because Palu is the number 1 hottest city in Indonesia 😄
mampirlah kesulawesi tenggara
Wonderful. It's so rare seeing this site being visited by a traveler, let alone a foreigner. I agree that it should caught the attention of UNESCO by now, and it looks better than Stonehenge😂
Yea we were even the first tourists to visit some of the sites. Incredible. Bada valley is visited more often. But not still not much. Besoa valley is hardly visited by anyone
Saya harap 🙏
Wow 🤩 wow 🤩 wow 🤩
Semoga sebelum natal channel kamu sudah mencapai 100k subscribers🎉
I hope so
Good bro
Thanks
I live in Palu and never leave my jacket on during the day. your skin will definitely burn. My respects to Mr. Sam who has brought us to the Besoa Valley. has introduced the uniqueness and richness of our ancestors. Thank You
Mr Hansen? I am sam indowild. You think of someone else 🫣
memang cuaca di palu sangat panas bro...
There are two suns in Palu. Ada 2x matahari
I can see the beauty of palu from your video. Thank yau
My pleasure 😊
this is not Palu, this Besoa valley in Poso regency central sulawesi. it about 4 - 5 hour from Palu.
You’re right. But it’s much much easier to access from Palu than poso. Makes me wonder why exactly it’s part of poso when the only road that leads there from poso is the jungle road which is in very poor condition and is not even displayed on Google maps 😅
@@IndoWild yes, this is what Napu people ask too. actually this about the political will of the Poso regency leader who is only good at making promises due the campaign but then not action it all.
Wow pemerintah harus melihat ini
it's amazing, an advanced civilization at that time..UNESCO should recognize it, and the government can research it further and protect it..
Wisata megalitikum yg underated banget 😢
Im indonesian and i travel a lot within and outside my country. But how come i just knew this place exist in my country.
That’s really amazing. That’s my goal. To show you places you never know existed.
SAYA KESINI KARENA MELIHAT CONTEN CRISTIAN HANSEN❤
Welcome. Sudah subskribe?
4.500 tahun lalu? berarti sekitar tahun 2.400 SM. 🤔
btw, thanks for the video. I've put it to my favorite list. 👍
8:46 look at to the cloud. it's like a snowy mountain.
18:07 was there a relationship with the Eastern Island in the ancient time? look at to the statue.🤔
Menurut ilmuwan LIPI prof Danny Hilman
