Ive had hives my freshmen year in college and it was terrible. It lasted for weeks and was un diagnosable. Not only that but I had an allergic reaction to the steroids given to me. But it was that experience that made me realize that stress and anxiety played a huge part in my health. The less I stopped worrying about it and stop stressing as much, they slowly started to go away. I no longer have them as bad as I used to but does anyone else feel like since you had them once, your kind of prone to it now? I hardly get them but it sucks cause as soon as I see one pop up I get anxious.

extreme stress or trauma, a death of loved one (if you try to postpone your feelings about it, the nerves can be heightened and body creating too much histamine (best to stay away from any kind of caffeine, cheese, alcohol) until you allow time for self to get through what you need to overcome. Benadryl is good for hives, or in the past that I knew of, but I question other things added to it. You do not want your cortisol hormone levels to harm you. Research healthier foods to eat, pray, get close to God. Be careful that you don't accidentally hypnotize yourself.

I had hives once as a child, twice as an adult. I’m 60 now. The ER doctor and hospital stated no known cause. I’m not allergic to anything, and have eaten the same foods, no problems since. Never changed personal items. They gave me Prednisone, where they wean you off gradually. It really cleared them up.

You can be allergic to things and not be aware. If they don’t check it, you’ll never know. You can also be allergic and rarely or even never show a response. Also, what people commonly view as an allergy is not the only thing that causes symptoms like these.

I'm also allergic to latex and have rosacea. The only thing that I've found that works for me is an oatmeal bath once a week. That soothes the skin and keeps my skin reactions at bay.

I ended up seeing an allergist who tested me for everything known at that time to test for. I was allergic to most of the things I was tested for! Including 97 of the 120 foods!!! I’ve had hives several times. The worst time I was around 14/15 and it was worse than this. My family was heading to the Rose Festival at the waterfront and I’d just gotten home from practice so I took a shower and went straight to the dryer to pull out clothes to put on and got dressed. My parents bought a different laundry detergent than we normally used and this was the very first load of clothes out of this particular bottle. Something in it, whether it was supposed to be there or not, caused me to breakout EVERYWHERE. It took less than 15 minutes for me to look like I’d walked right into a poison ivy bush and just rolled around in it lol. To the point where I had hives on my face so bad they caused one of my eyelids to almost swell closed. But because I wanted to go to the festival, I took another shower, threw on a new set of clothes not from the contaminated load, took some allergy meds and was off to the waterfront with my family lol. I’ll never forget the stares walking around Portland but I wasn’t about to let some itching ruin my fun! 🤷🏾‍♀️😂

Yep, I am allergic to most soaps and detergents. Recently changed detergent and for some reason didn't connect the dots. After exercise, my armpits were itching and elbows were itching and I thought it was something I ate, but I finally realized my sweat must have been releasing the detergent chemicals from my shirt and causing the reaction on my skin. It takes about two weeks for my skin to heal completely after removing the trigger. Unless I am on my death bed, I refuse to take Prednisone.

I am allergic to laundry detergents and fabric softeners. They give me wicked hives and the itch is absolute torcher. I now use a small amount of Tide Free to get my clothes clean and then I put my clothes through another "full" wash cycle, with no detergent to get most of the residual chemicals out and of course no fabric softeners or dryer sheets. This helped my skin by about 80%. Also, no one sharing the dryer should use fabric softener sheets as it will contaminate the dryer. Latex allergy are common so if your waistband area gets hives this may be a cause. Double wash all, bedding in hot water once a week for sure. This will help with dust mite allergies which can cause allergies when mites, feces, and the dead bodies of mites are inhaled. Many over the counter moisturizing creams only made me worse. Double washing really helped me, give it a try, but make sure to wash all clothes that way every time, it takes me more time and money do to laundry but its critical for me. I hope this advice can help someone else. Also, one last thing, soft drinks including diet drinks give me bad hives, so I cut them out completely.

Low Vitamin D levels have been linked to hives. Sometimes my skin looks like Ben Grimm of The Fantastic Four without any reason. Phenergan helps but it puts you to sleep. Cool weather helps my case. All of my hives started right after I had an allergy test years ago. A while ago a minister prayed over me and the hives were gone for three weeks. Thank You Jesus.

First one said I had a staff infection, (so lots of antibiotics) second one said i had bed bugs (Nope) 3rd one said I had something else. It wasn't until I decided to ditch "diet splash" that I had been on a kick for a couple of months that it went away.

I’ve suffered with idiopathic hives for over 20 years. I’ve done 2 regimens of immunotherapy for my known allergies, but never have any of the allergists been able to pinpoint what triggers my hives. I did get a great cocktail recommendation from a Family Practitioner friend that’s very effective in reducing the intensity and duration. That cocktail still knocks them down to this day, usually within 20 minutes of uptake. 5mg Cetirizine (Zyrtec) + 400 mg Cimetidine (Tagamet). Took a long time for me to find relief but it works well and makes them disappear quickly.

I recently discovered I'm allergic to canned beverages (namely aluminum!) For the longest time, I thought food allergens were the cause. I do have some food allergies, but regarding cans... the acidity of the beverage will corrode the inner lining of the can. Long-term exposure to the metal toxin (or even acute toxicity) will cause severe itching or dry/chapped skin especially on extremities & joints. If you've been drinking soda, sparkling H2O, beer from aluminum cans, I urge you to stop for up to 3 weeks. See if the itching & dryness goes away. Also if there's anyone you know, young or old, with eczema that they haven't found a way to control... but they have a habit of drinking sodas or beer from cans, try to get them off that for a duration. It's literally changed my life, & over the course of two weeks, I've seen my body completely change. There haven't been enough studies done on this, but I'm convinced that aluminum allergy doesn't simply involve instances of contact dermatitis. We ingest aluminum on a DAILY BASIS. Canned drinks are heavily consumed & over storage time the aluminum content increases. Give it a try.

The worst part of it is not knowing what caused the hives rash or why. My 17 yr old son had itchy hives all over his body (arms, legs, back, chest, stomach, one side near ear) just like hers today for the very first time and no other symptoms whatsoever. For a while some of the spots would go away and then pop up in other areas and/or pop up again in similar areas. We gave him one benadryl that didn't do anything but then much later we gave him a Zyrtec and the hives calmed way down and many of them disappeared. He wants to wait and see how he is tomorrow and then we will see. I thought about it all day trying to figure out what caused it and why and everything he ate lately he has had before with no problems and we have been home for most of the summer. It really bothers me as a parent that it's so difficult to find the answer to very first time hives. My question is if it's something he ate before with no problems can he become allergic to it later on?

Something that has helped me a lot is dry brushing. Find a boar-hair brush and use it on the hives gently. It helps clear them up almost immediately and also feels quite nice. You can also do a full-body dry brushing, which I think flushes out histamines. My case turned out to be an allergy to citric acid, so any fruits or Vitamin C supplements or preservatives. It took me 5 years to figure it out on my own since doctors were completely useless and just wanted to prescribe heavy steroids.

Atarax is an old antihistamine that will make u drowsy, but helps with the itchy skin and hives. Outbreaks feel Ike your skin is on fire, so I treat it immediately. I’ve been on oral steroids, but as soon as u go off, the hives return,so don’t bother with it.
