  • This guitar was built in 2019 and its a replica of a 1952 Gibson J-185. This is one of the best strumming guitars I've ever heard. Just has the sound you've heard in your head on so many albums with strummed guitar sounds! It has a torrefied Sitka spruce top and maple back and sides. 24.75" scale length. They made less than 1000 of these all total in the 50s and then discontinued the model. All sorts of guitar companies started making them in the 80s like Taylor and Santa Cruz. Then Gibson brought the model back in the 90s.

Had one stolen 8 years ago Gibson j185 Elite ebony fretboard, broke my heart. Just managed to get enough together to replace it, looking at the model your showing.

Interesting, because the shape is just a larger version of Gibson's small roundhole archtops of the 1920s and before (L Jr./L1/L2/L3). That similarity makes me wonder how an archtop J-185 or J-200 would sound.

Nice job, Bobby! Love your Wildflowers take. I love that guitar. Just got myself an SJ-200 a couple of weeks ago. Petty and Townshend got a lot of mileage out of theirs.
