Smokey and the bandit was my dad’s favorite movie.
The next day after we saw it in the theater, my dad went to the local Pontiac dealer and ordered a brand new fully loaded black and gold ‘77 Trans-am with t-tops exactly like the one in the film. I still have the car tucked away in my garage, but it’s in need of a restoration.

One more UK oldie: Hell Drivers 1957. Starring Stanley Baker and featuring Sean Connery, Patrick McGoohan, David McCallum, Herbert Lom (police commissioner in Pink Panther movies), and Jill Ireland (later Mrs. McCallum and Mrs. Charles Bronson). I agree with Smokey and the Bandit as #1. I worked assembly at GMAD Norwood, Ohio at the time where we built Camaros and Firebirds. Smokey really boosted sales of Trans Am Firebirds.

I'm shocked "Christmas comes to Willow Creek" isn't on this list. It features two truck driving brothers, Tom Wopat and John Schneider (who became famous as the Bo and Luke Duke), driving a load of toys from Los Angeles, California to Willow Creek, Alaska. The movie sets up that there's something off about the load who and the man behind it, a Willow Creek native who left to start his own trucking business who in deciding to give back to his hometown had the town Santa at the general store name one toy each kid in town wanted. The town itself is down on its luck as the only big business in town, a canning factory, recently closed. The story worsens for the town when the old man suffers a heart attack and has to hire Schneider to replace him, a wild child that only he and his brother Wopat can control. Wopat's driver has increased worries when his son gets into trouble and, in an effort to spend more time with him and keep him out of trouble.
The main rig in the movie is an early '90's Freightliner Classic with 70" sleeper running a west coast fuel setup(Four large tanks).
This movie got played at my house every Christmas in a truck driving family and still holds a special place in my heart for a heartfelt Christmas.

Smokey and the bandit is never better than Convoy.
1st Duel -because it is a thriller, well built, brought new perspective to Hollywood, and you can recognize the work a future genius: Spielberg
2nd Convoy because Sam Pekinpah made a western with trucks... Yes it is a western movie with outlaws behind wheels running to Mexico and not an action movie
3rd Over the top because it is one of the best road movies, shows a father's drama, very human, and emotional a real journey
4th Black dog, the drama again, and when Swayze's charater is telling the story of the Black dog... huh... yeah that's catchy
and on the 5th place may come Smokey and the bandit. Why? because it is just chewing gum for your eyes nothing else. Yes it is rock n roll, yes it has semitrucks, but shallow

I've always liked Joyride. I didn't hate the sequels either but like 95% of movies with few very rare exceptions, the first is always the best.
Like in Duel the trucker in Joyride is never shown either, at least not his face. Even the trucker we see at the end isn't the man that's been chancing our leads as we hear him again on the CB radio, it was instead the body of the ice trucker driver that returned the leads debit card.

There is also a german series "Auf Achse/wich means "on axle" or better....to be on the road" The series started in 1978 and was made around two german truckers and their tours in all kind of countries. While trucking was the main focus, you could call it an action-series. The series got renewed several times until the early 1990s, but withe the replacement of the original actors, the later seasons lost their charme. The series was groundbraking in a few points. It was the first time that cameras had been mounted outside a vehicle for a long time, the on location people had not been dubbed and there were no subtitles, so the audience would have the same problems like the drivers.
The intro is known to every german from the 70s or 80s. "Franz Meersdonk, Günter Willers and their machines (trucks) 320 HP. They haul scheduled freigth into many dfferent countries....you can count on them"

Not sure how good Duel was .. but it was Intense.. Dense Weaver played such a nerdy timid charactor .. where as he was a really cool dude as McCloud
White Line Fever , Jan Michael Vincent definitely was an Underdog to route for in the movie..

I agree with this line up. Smoky and the Bandit being #1. I like how it was said it was remembered by it characters, but how and the hell, do ya forget to mention, Jerry Reid! The actual truck driver! Also one sick ass guitar player, but that has nothing to do with this. Jerry was the real star in tye film. Really should have been mentioned.

White line fever, convoy, smoky in the bandit, and in that order are my favorites.
I’ve always loved the movie, White Lion fever to me. It’s the only movie that ever came close to telling the truth about the trucking industry.

To be fair I have not seen all of these moves. Of the ones that I have seen my top 3 are
    No 3, White Line Fever,
    No 2, Convoy,
No 1, Smokey and the Bandit
Good review, I will have to watch some of the others on your list.
    Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 👍

There was another movie, it was called Coast To Coast & starred Dyan Cannon, I can't remmeber exactly what it was about but the truck in the movie was a GMC Jimmy General. The final scene in the movie has Cannon driving the truck into a mansion & that scene is also in an episode of The Fall Guy for all of us who remember that show starring Lee Majors & the super hott at the time Heather Thomas...

With Convoy, one fact that was cut from the final edit that explains Dirty Lyle's obsession with the duck, is that Violet (the woman from the diner) is Lyle's wife. Hence the references from duck saying 'When you gonna leave that fella of yours', and after Violet frees Lyle form the barstool he says 'I will deal with you later'. This fact was in the original edit of the film, but the edit was over three hours long, and the part that explained the affair was cut.
I don't think the original Pekinpah edit exists, but if it does, I would love to see it.
