This is quickly becoming my favorite knitting podcast! How lovely to have a friend who shares your hobby 😭 you two have great energy. Bout to cast on a pair of those felted slippers! I'm still a newbie to the world of mill-spun yarn, I tend to handspin a lot but lord does that take a while 😆
Hello! Thanks so much 🥰 So happy at the prospect of another pair of these felted slipper socks in the world, are you using handspun for your felting? So impressed at everyone who cranks out handspun yarn.
I vote for the blue and the purple, with the blue as the main colour and the purple as a contrast… also, love both of your work and really enjoyed this podcast ❤
In looove with the navy background combo!! It's probably not very niche, I don't really know, but I've become obsessed with the mondim 100% Portuguese wool yarn. I think it's because I bought it on a trip that was a lot of fun and now all I think about when I see this sweater are the memories from that trip. However it is also such a nice wool!🤍
Coming in not so hot 8 months later as i have just found your channel, but i am currently knitting with wee county yarns Kinross 4PLY which is a Scottish brand and it is amazing! Blooms to be as soft as cashmere i have heard, so i am knitting my porcelain sweater in it! Also so nice to see Paige struggling with decisions for the spot, i bought the pattern recently, read through it once and then have not looked again because it overwhelmed me, but that birthday cake combo has me inspired all over again!!😊
I was jumping on my couch yelling ooh!! Over the project bag Sarah made and THEN you mentioned giveaway and I shot out of my seat 😅. I would be sooo curious to see and feel and knit a local to you favorite merino! One of my European favorites is not a secret, but I haven’t heard you mention it, so maybe you don‘t know about it / haven’t tried it: Holst Garn, which is a Danish brand at a very good price point. It comes without being washed after the spinning, which is one reason it’s cheaper. However, I have never found that a problem. Coast is a beautiful merino cotton blend and Titicaca is a thin alpaca which can be used for example instead of mohair. There are other bases as well and the color selection is AMAZING. And they have a cool online chart which tells you which colors in one base pair well with another base. I like them a lot. Can‘t wait to hear about the giveaway ❤🫶🏻🤞🏻
Hello! Omg I love hearing from people from so far away but with a shared love 🥰 so I’ve seen there’s a very small Finnsheep farm within a few hours of where we live that makes amazing looking yarn and I’ve always been curious but never tried it. I think this will have to become a rustic winter project 😁
And also Congrats on getting to 1000. 🎉🎉🎉 (because I would looooove a project bag), a few great yarns are Jill Draper Makes Stuff Kingston, Hjelholt’s Uldspinderi Handåndværksgarn and Studio Donegal Soft Tweed.
Hi! Soooo enjoyed this episode. You two are so fun!! I’m not sure if someone has commented to this or not, but with the twisted rib bind off… you’re exactly right. It’s the setup rows. Suzanne Bryan has a very nice tutorial on this.
Just found your podcast and really enjoyed watching so you are 1 subscriber closer to 1000! I have made the sandnes garne slippers and LOVE them!! (I am actually wearing them now!) Some of my favorite yarns right now are mYak (the baby yak lace held double is incredible!!) I also love Le Garçon yarn from Canada. Not sure if you can get either in Australia but both are wonderful to work with. Looking forward to the next episode! -Kate
@@twopurlsinapod Sorry, I missed this...(actually just finished watching your latest episode and thinking this the correct use for a delayed response apology!🤣) It has a slight halo but the comfort, drape and wear are amazing in both yarns.
I love your podcast! Thank you for keeping me company while I knit. Also: my partner asked me about your candle last time! He couldn't figure out what "the spinny thing" was 😂
Another great episode! Thanks ladies. I am dead keen to see the swatches for the spot Sweater - I can't possibly suggest a combo from just my imagination, they're all too gorgeous! As for favourite yarns, in NZ I have a couple of favourite dyers: Purple Sprouting yarns' Astral (50/50 merino silk) and Happy-Go-Knitty Mardi (yak/silk/merino). Both have amazing yarns of all types of blend, but these two I've actually knit with and highly recommend!
I love the navy combo!. Loving your podcast too and hearing from other Aussie knitters about the yarns we have available here. You’ve also inspired me to sew some bags. Love it!
Yay! I'm so glad, the luxury project bag life is a good one and highly recommend. I'm so torn between wanting to try different international yarns and celebrating all the beautiful yarn we have here. Guess it's all about balance...
Hi ladies, I love listening to your podcast and I cannot believe how alike our tastes are. Ive also made project bags by Noodlehead for my knitting and I love them. You get the ability to be so creative with fabrics and colours. The slippers I had on my watch list but until you made the podcast on how to make them I wasn't sure. Now Im ready to give them a go. The wool discussions are so valuable. Keep going ladies you are amazing. Its also great to know where you get the yarns, basically you are doing the hard work for us.
Haha I love it when all the stars align :) And glad that more cosy slipper socks will soon be out there in the world, get excited for cosiness. Thanks so much 🥰
Loving your podcast ladies! I am definitely casting on the slippers this week, I hadn’t yet because I was going to be playing yarn chicken with the one colour I have and have a bit of leftover in another colour too.…..”hide it inside”…omgosh I didn’t even think about that!! Thanks 😊 I have purchased the Spot sweater pattern, actually the junior size lol I am petite and was planning on knitting the largest size in it hoping for a better underarm fit. The adult version has a very low raglan before splitting for the body, too low for me. From a bit I know about the pattern it is a DK weight gauge, she has you hold a mohair with a fingering, or use three mohairs together, or a strand of dk weight (options). You would need to either hold something with your fingering weights or change up the gauge of the pattern. I haven’t started mine yet 😊 In Canada our oldest woolen mill is called Briggs & Little, it has beautiful heathered colours, it’s reasonable priced, but quite rustic nature. Have a great day 💓🇨🇦
I love that there are several recommendations for Briggs & Little, it's definitely a sign... I've seen people talk about how awkward the depth of the raglan is on the spot sweater, so was always wary of it. Our friend did on that looked like it fit really well wihtotu that issue, but she's also quite petite and maybe less of an issue in smaller sizes? Hope yours goes well :)
Ladies!! What a delightful pair you are. I subscribed within the first 5 minutes of watching you, not because of your plug at the end 😊. Love your rapport and enthusiasm. One of my favorite yarns is Peace Fleece.
Love the friendship you all have! Underrated yarn...Berroco Vintage...It is a wool/acrylic/nylon blend...so I get it's not everyone's cup of tea...but I find it super versatile!
Haha thanks lovely 🥰 I've heard of Berroco vintage I think, and now that I search for it and see all the incredible colours will have to keep it on the radar. There's a time and a place for a hardy versatile blend I think.
I came across you guys and it's really fun to hear about all the different yarn and projects! I vote for the navy yarn (or any dark tone) as the background with beige or the hand dyed yarn (not the birthday cake colour way). The first would be rather classic and the 2nd option gives some pop of colour.
Yessss, i also gravitate to blue a lot, like have to actively sometimes steer away from blue I feel like. Now gotta convince Paige of this combo… thanks so much 🥰
Love your podcasts, discovered you recently and binge watched them all! I’m an Aussie knitter too, in SA and basically knit PetiteKnit and MFKW. Thanks ladies for the fun 😊
Such a relaxing podcast …like being in the room while I am knitting listening to friends and enjoying their conversation 😊 you two are natural and sweet…also…blue as contrast…but totally needs a sample! 😂 I love West Yorkshire Spinners anything… not very niche but their philosophy on sheep breeds vibes with my sentiments. Oil cloth…how do you sew with that? Do you need a special needle? Obsessed with project bags😅
Oilcloth is not as thick a fabric as it sounds, but I'd say use a new needle, maybe a denim needle or something sturdy, and its too thick for pins so when you want to pin peices together better to use those little clips that quilters use and peg them together. Other than that its just a very stiff cotton essentially. Great for bags, and I even made a coat out of it once which I still love. Thanks so much 🥰
I love your two together on your podcast ❤ One of my favorite yarn brands is Lamana, especially their superlight collection. I‘m not sure it is a niche or if/how it is available Down Under, but definitely something I would recommend trying out. Looking forward to your next episode
Thanks lovely 🥰 Given how much I love tweedy yarns, I'm dying a little bit for this Lamana. Not much accessibility here but maybe I can convince my brother to bring some home from UK in future (I did warn him he'd be my yarn supplier when he moved over :P )
Love the podcast, I just came across it. Paige, I love the hot pink combo with the lavender Hedgehog Fibre, but you should swatch with the hot pink as the main and the contrast. My other fav colour combo is ochre with the lavender, but maybe a different shade than the one you showed? I would do the ochre in the contrast. Thank you for your lovely fun, full of energy and informative podcast. Definitely will be own my watch list.
Hi, just stumbled across your podcast and oh I love you both! So nice to find a podcast from down under! So cool to hear about all the auzzy yarns you have, Id LOVE to try some oneday. Im in Wellington NZ my fave yarn is by a local to me indie dyer Mamawooling, here plush fingering and suri silk are to due for! I buy most of my commercial yarns from Skeinz who are a mill and yarn store here in NZ. I'll be downloading all your back episodes to watch over my summer break now exams are done 🎉❤
Oooo congrats on being done with exams!!! I love that period where all of a sudden you’ve got so much time in your day and you can do whatever you want with it 😊 I hope you’re doing a lot of nothing. Good to know what to keep an eye out for whenever I’m over in NZ next, thanks chick 🥰
OK I subscribed during this ep, but I swear it was before you announced the giveaway 😆 My sister shared your podcast with me a few weeks back and it's so nice to watch folks close to me knitting with yarn that's actually accessible to me! I'm using Bendigo Woolen Mill yarn atm for a test knit, but I have some yarns from She's Crafty in my stash just waiting for me to be done on this one! The one I'm most excited to play with is the Oyser Yarns Maven, which is SW Merino, Silk and Yak.
@@twopurlsinapod I was planning on using it for the Outline Tee by Jessie Maed! I helped out with the yarn winding and someone brought theirs over which is what sealed the deal for me. It felt soooo nice!
Another wonderful episode to watch! I enjoy these so much as you make beautiful projects and your energy is so great! Just a quick note on the bind-off on the twisted rib neckline, as you might find it helpful. I recently had the exact same issue and found the neckline somewhat annoying. However, when I did the bind-off correctly for the sleeves, the difference wasn't that big between the twisted and non-twisted bind-off. It might have been me, or my yarn, but it resulted in me deciding not to unpick the previous bind-off for the neckline. When I wear it, it isn't really noticable anymore and after blocking it became even less so. I don't know if this will help you, but still thought I'd share it.
Hello thanks so much! That is incredibly helpful and very reassuring so thanks, I'm taking this as my instructions to just leave it alone 😛 I feel like "it'll block out" has become my mantra for every problem I find with my knits...
Often it's definitely true that it will block out! I sometimes forget it's an option, but in this case I tried. I hope it works for you. The sweater looks really good. I'm eager to knit it myself!@@twopurlsinapod
I don’t know if it’s niche, but I love some life in the long grass silk merino 😌 so soft and wonderful to work with!! 💕 Long all the projects you guys are working on!!
Subscribed! Fabulous underrated yarn: Navia Uno, or Navia Brushed Tradition. From Faroese sheep, the ones with the adorably kinky hair (because it's mad cold where they live) -- the yarn has a natural buoyancy to it that survives washing and blocking. Manages to be both bouncy and drape-y.
I love your podcast ladies! I’ve been living in Canberra since January and I’m leaving at the end of the January coming up and heading back to Canada. I’m so going to miss being able to go in search of the Australian yarn you suggest. Have either of you tried Briggs and Little from Canada? It’s a rustic yarn company and they also do a roving, the roving comes in 5 ply but I’ve separated it out into two for a project before and it was wonderful.
I’ve heard of B&L but never come across it. It looks like the rustic wool of my dreams, and would love to try knitting with roving one day, just gotta get my hands on some. Hope you’ve had fun in Canberra and get some good summer weather before you leave 😊
Also, I feel like I want to establish a network of yarn mules who can bring yarn from different parts of the world. A friend said they were going to Denmark and i was like “can you bring me home some yarn please”. Need a Canadian contact to keep supplying you with luxe Aus merino.
One to try is adagio alpaca mills- super lux Aussie alpaca! I have felted lots of different non sw yarns and it generally works great- they all just shrink different amounts so its best to do a test to see how much they shrink with washing. Great way to use up leftovers especially as the inside part of the slipper!
OMG how have I never come across Adagio before?!? It looks amazing, especially the top to get back into spinning maybe... Hope you're staying warm and see you soon!
@@twopurlsinapod I know right?! Let me know if you try the adagio! They had a merino/suri mix one time and it was dreamy. Your yarny goodness is the first thing (and only thing )I packed in my bag so far.. Everything else will be shoved in last minute, packing is the worst 😅
My favorite color combo for the spot sweater was the purple main color with the navy contrast. Also I don’t think it’s a big deal to use different ply types in a project. My favorite yarn dyer is crafted by the fates!
Ooo I really like the colours Crafted by the Fates has. I like that combo best as well, and I think it’s the most popular. Now just need to convince Paige… thanks lovely 🥰
Oooo thanks for saving us and knowing what we're talking about more than we do 🤦♀️ I'll have to try some more out in different yarns and get creative given how hard it is to get Sandnessgarn.
My FAVOURITE yarn is the Tasmanian hand dyer - Louie & Lola... bring on December 1st when my advent calendar from Karina begins! I would love to try a pair of the felted slippers too..... but I feel I am very similar to Paige & begin projects & don't love them or can't finish them so trying to finish my WIPs before starting new ones..... actually wanting to cast on the Stella quilt cushion for some gift knitting. Anyway, love seeing fellow Melbournians knit & if you ever make an in person knitting event I'll take the day off work to be there haha!
Haha don't tempt me to also take a sneaky day off work for knitting-related things... I love Louie & Lola so much, just a bit overwhelemd with how much beatuiful stuff and where to start, but I bet the advent will be stunning.
I had to look up diptyque haha sooo exyyyy ! but I want one now, they go pretty well second hand so might wait til next year. Another great episode, also the project bag looks so well done 😍gosh wishing I could sew! got to enter this give away but haven't tried many yarns yet as I am new 🤔I usually go with yarn that is suggested - most often is has been CaMaRose, if want to try linen I highly recommend CaMaRose Løvetand Organic Linen, it was my first dive into plantbased yarns and was very nice to work with edit: actually! theres a small local hand dyer whose yarn I have picked up - Cozi Yarn Studio 🤗 theyre based in Brisbane
I KNOW the diptyque prices pain me! But I must admit, I've never seen the same carousel in that particular style. It's definitely a splurge purchase. Thanks for the rec! Will have to add them to our to-try list for sure
Great episode as always! I discovered your channel last summer and binge watched every episode 😂 And that is such an exciting giveaway! 😀 I think that my favourite underrated Canadian hand dyed yarn company is Bleu Poussiere! Shani naturally dyes beautiful yarn bases in the most amazing colours :)
If you can find it and if you like more rustic wools Briggs and Little has some yarn that's great for super warm hats or would work really well for felting
I tested the Front Porch Pullover also and now I’m like I need to go check how my sewn bind off looks 😂. I did not really pay attention to the twist when I made mine. But I used a darker yarn color so maybe it’s not as noticeable or stand out.
I'm still very new to yarns outside of craft stores that I honeslty don't know :/ but I've started to try out hand dyed sock yarns from Etsy like Potions and Purls who is my currect favorite dyer!
Wow that was a rabbit hole I wasn't anticipating. I've always been a bit nervous of Etsy cos I know there's so much good stuff on there that I can't bear to look. But have recently ended up on a few pages and I'm not sorry, but my wallet soon will be I think. Potions and Purls looks aaaamazing, all that speckling is choice! Thanks for the tip lovely 🥰
This is such a luxury response and I love it. I wish my spinning was good enough to make garments from but still too uneven and hard to carve out time to spin when there's so much I wanna knit. What fibre do you predominantly spin with?
@@twopurlsinapod I think my favorite has been a polwarth/ silk blend. I've made 5 or 6 sweaters with handspun now and unevenness really isn't a big deal, it gives texture!
Love your podcast. Love what you are making. I would love to plug COULOURED WOOL & FIBRE CONTRAST. Google Koetong Apalcha Farm located between Wodonga & Corryong Victoria. They sell wool & fleece and go to markets in surrounding areas. Meghan & her mum spin & knit garments also. You can visit their farm as well as Koeton pub for lunch. Also on line ordering. I would to have one of your gorgeous bag. Jenny

The one I'm most excited to play with is the Oyser Yarns Maven, which is SW Merino, Silk and Yak.
Mmmm I see Oyster Yarns at She's Crafty events and it always looks so lush, do you know what you're going to do with it?
Windswept fibers!!❤
OMG those colours!
Yes.... love watching you. I would like to try Bendigo and Fiber Lily yarns.
Yesss love more people discovering Bendigo Woollen Mills 😁
I don’t know if it’s niche, but I love some life in the long grass silk merino 😌 so soft and wonderful to work with!! 💕
Long all the projects you guys are working on!!
OMG LITLG is a yarn that I've always wanted to try, the colours are incredible and it looks so luxe. This may be the nudge I needed... Thanks lovely 🥰
I like the dark blue with the lavender.
Me too! Just gotta convince Paige of that now 😛

Mmmm the dream combo. Love it thanks🥰
I’ve made the slippers out of both
Lion Brand Fishermen's Wool Yarn and Nora Haunui and had great results.
I held the fishermen’s double.
Another great episode, also the project bag looks so well done 😍gosh wishing I could sew! got to enter this give away but haven't tried many yarns yet as I am new 🤔I usually go with yarn that is suggested - most often is has been CaMaRose, if want to try linen I highly recommend CaMaRose Løvetand Organic Linen, it was my first dive into plantbased yarns and was very nice to work with
edit: actually! theres a small local hand dyer whose yarn I have picked up - Cozi Yarn Studio 🤗 theyre based in Brisbane
OMG this might be the most beautiful website I've ever seen. Thanks lovely 🥰
For the spot sweater : I think the last option with the beige as the background colour and the multi colour as the CC!
Okay I think I'm convinced! Will definitely do some swatches, but this is what I'm leaning towards!
If you can find it and if you like more rustic wools Briggs and Little has some yarn that's great for super warm hats or would work really well for felting
Mmm I see quite a few US/Canadian podcasters talk about Briggs & Little and it looks like the rustic wool of my dreams.
I tested the Front Porch Pullover also and now I’m like I need to go check how my sewn bind off looks 😂. I did not really pay attention to the twist when I made mine. But I used a darker yarn color so maybe it’s not as noticeable or stand out.
Yeh I recon the combo of the light yarn and my irregular tension didn’t help. Plus I was just influenced by all the 2x2 rib going around at the time…
I'm still very new to yarns outside of craft stores that I honeslty don't know :/ but I've started to try out hand dyed sock yarns from Etsy like Potions and Purls who is my currect favorite dyer!
Love your videos! 😊
Thanks lovely 🥰
My favorite yarn to work with is handspun! Now that I spin, I don't buy much commercial yarn.
I like the Navy
I use Manos Del Uruguay “Alegria” for all my sock knitting.
Ooo I just had a look at all the amazing colours! Thanks for the tip ❤️
I love Yarnfloozy yarn from New Zealand
Mmm I don’t know it but will have to check it out. Always looking to try some local (or more local than northern hemisphere) yarns 🥰
Jenny
Omg love this! The website looks so good, will have to make a trip one day, it’s such a beautiful part of the world.
Navy background
I agree! Glad we could convince Paige 😁
Hi I live Knitty Mcpurly yarn
Ooo colour of the month looks amazing! And the patterns too!
