You voice your opinions and stand in your truth while holding space for others and that is admirable. You are Queen of online boundries. As someone with both PTSD and Fibromyalgia, that talk about invisible illnesses really hit home. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I think most people do not understand how often it happens. Thank you for your thoughtful language around "silver-lining" illnesses, but also thank you for doing the hard thing and speaking up about how you were treated and seeking change. I know that is incredibly emotionally exhausting. And finally just big thank you for sharing these more intimate reads, it's a very vulnerable thing to do and is appreciated. It was very helpful, I love hearing how others read, and what they associate with each cards. I hope you have a lovely day.

    The "everything happens for a reason" idea is one I've had arguments with people about in the past. I remember upsetting the perfect harmony of a spiritual group many years ago by daring to disagree with a lady who believed she had been sexually abused by a family member as punishment for having sexually abused that individual in a past life. Whilst I do believe in past lives, this punitive model of reincarnation is not one I believe in. For me it allows wrongdoers off the hook, allowing abusers the excuse "I was just being an agent of karma!" I rather believe that we experience exactly what we have dealt out to others, good and bad, after death in the between-life state - thus we purge ourselves of our wrongdoing by experiencing the suffering we have caused in full during our life review. We come back into incarnation to be better, not to take revenge or be avenged upon. The punitive model leads to all sorts of grotesque ideas in my view, not least of which is complacency. People are abusive not "because it's written in the stars" for that to happen, but because they're ignorant spiritually and fail to see the essential sanctity and value in whoever they're abusing. I don't think it's any more complicated than that personally.

    • @KateyFlowers
      @KateyFlowers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The ‘everything happens for a reason’ is so often so toxic and harmful, I agree. I have seen some people use it to apply to their own trauma in ways that has been healing for them, and I would never want to invalidate a victim’s own process in dealing with complex trauma. I just hate that it is so often used against people to actively victim blame! Not cool at all! Thank you for your comment x

    • @janetdanes7945
      @janetdanes7945 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I greatly appreciate this comment as it expresses perfectly something that has troubled me for years about this victim/abuse dynamic. I have rejected the belief that the victim has agreed to be abused, and attracts it as retribution for previous life acts. This is scapegoating the victim and frees the abuser from taking responsibility for their horrendous actions. That can’t be right! Recently, I read it is a flawed belief to see karma transfer from a past life to be atoned for in this life. Rather, the author argued that we incarnate with three karmic lessons; physical, emotional and spiritual, to work through in this life. These were explained as challenges for our soul’s growth which when integrated allowed us to attain the ‘gift’ hidden within these lessons. Also, they were not attached to suffering of any kind and certainly not to accept abuse. That being said, if it helps a victim of abuse to believe that their suffering is atonement and releases them from karmic attachments to the abuser, then I am not going to judge them either. If that works for them, then I congratulate them for being this strong, but don’t want to see it used against others who are not willing or capable to do the same.

    • @lexwithbub
      @lexwithbub 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yup, I totally agree, it is definitely not true that "everything happens for a reason".
      Of course that doesn't mean that one cannot use those things to improve the self - just because someone DOES end up a stronger person because of what happened, it certainly doesn't mean it happened for a reason, and DEFINITELY doesn't absolve a perpetrator.

    • @lexwithbub
      @lexwithbub 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And, as someone with complex PTSD, it's a great way to victim blame those who have been through trauma, but HAVEN'T become stronger.

    I enjoyed this so much-thank you for sharing your readings. I’m new to tarot and it’s so interesting to hear others’ interpretations and insights for the various cards-but also to see this as an in-depth process to determine if a deck still belongs in one’s collection. I was swept up by unboxing videos the past several months and bought so many-too many decks. I’m trying to show myself some grace that it’s normal to get excited and impulsive about a new passion, and it has been a way to discover what type of decks work and don’t work for me…but now I need to pause, really use each deck I have, and decide if it should stay with me or pass it on to a new home to be better appreciated. I also really love this type of video content. It was fascinating to see this beautiful deck get used-and I think that 8 of Wands is my favorite 8 of Wands, but I don’t feel this knee jerk compulsion to go out and buy a new pretty deck, but rather adopt this process for a deck I already own. You don’t even know how freeing that feels! I’ve also been struggling with how to even use my decks in a meaningful way that justifies having so many decks, and your video gave me some great ideas. Thank you so so much!

    • @KateyFlowers
      @KateyFlowers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that experience of getting swept up is certainly not an uncommon one, I know I did the same thing. Definitely don’t beat yourself up over it, but it’s great you’ve been able to find some greater awareness around it and get to a point where you can enjoy and appreciate decks you see online without feeling the desperation to buy them yourself. It’s a much healthier headspace to be in, that’s for sure! Thank you for your feedback on this video, I’m glad to hear it’s useful! 😊

    I smiled when the strength card came out for you. To me you embody this so beautifully throughout this video. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing how you use tarot for enquiry and self care. This is one of the best tarot series I have seen on tarot tube to date and I am so grateful for it. In a sea of unboxing and collection videos (which admittedly have their place) it is so refreshing to see how you work with your deck/s and spreads. I think as a community we need more of that and I hope that your series will inspire others to make content with a bit more substance. I'm struggling to articulate how I'm feeling without offending anyone. But I think a shift from the sometimes consumerist focus on new decks and acquiring the latest and greatest shiny new deck, to how to use these beautiful tools is really important to create balance in this space. Thank you for your wonderful contribution to this with this series. ❤

    I really enjoyed your interpretations of the cards that you drew. It’s funny that you mentioned the RWCS deck and the 9 of Cups being smug. I feel like that is most of the deck. I know people say to start with that deck when first starting to read, but I am glad that I didn’t because I have a hard time interpreting the cards, the white book meanings don’t make sense to me. I am always amazed that people can read it. I really enjoyed the cards of this deck and your interpretations.

    What an excellent video! I hope you continue to do 'readings' online like this, as it's always interesting to see how another tarot reader makes connections and considers the cards and positions. I'm not familiar with this deck myself, so this was my first introduction to it. I'm not sure the deck is 'me' but I see it's quite nuanced in many ways. This is a lot better than a flip-through, to get me familiar with a deck.
    How are you doing the shuffling and card selection for this video? Are the cards pre-shuffled, and are you just pulling cards at random, or are you pulling them off the top or bottom of the deck? You kept dropping cards, which makes me think the cards are probably in your hand, not on a table?
    Anyway, thanks again. You've certainly exhibited how a tarot reading can help a person analyze a situation, without making it into a predictive exercise. I'm hoping to see more 'reading' videos like this. For yourself, or maybe for another person at some point?

    Hello Katey, this video was engaging and very interesting. Thank you for sharing these spreads and the beautiful Fountain Tarot. Coming to Tarot late in life means that this deck is a new one for me so I am not experienced with it as yet. I was relieved that you are keeping it! I agree with you that the feel of this deck connects particularly to water and air. I find it very centring and calming, as it connects the heart and mind which is the balance I seek when I read the Tarot. I had some observations when I saw the cards you drew which I thought you may enjoy hearing. First, the Three of Wands immediately reminds me of a vector diagram in Physics. The two outward forces are the two wands while the rope the man pulls is the vector addition for these forces. He has to exert an equal force in a direction that keeps the two other forces balanced. This observation may add an interesting layer for interpreting this card. The other observation connected to both the Chariot and Magician cards. Both of these have the Rune symbol Mannaz, hidden or not so hidden in the artwork. It is more obvious in the Chariot card and less obvious in the Magician, but I see it with the crossing of the wand and sword and the lines that are faintly drawn from the ends. Mannaz connects to humanity both individually and collectively. Your comment about taking action to address an injustice you endured, and your hope that it will bring a compassionate response towards others who visit the clinic connects well with Mannaz and the Chariot card.

      @KateyFlowers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s something I first read about in Tarot for Yourself by MK Greer where you calculate a number based on your birthdate. Mine is 29 September 1990, so 29+9+1990=2028 then you keep adding those digits together until you get a number between 1 and 22 (22 would be The Fool). So 2+0+2+8= 12 which is The Hanged Man. Hope that makes sense! 😊
