When I think of a tracker knife I always remember the movie "The Hunted"
I bought and own a tracker and have never seen the movie. Just watched the preview and it looks like trash. And honestly a tracker knife is a tool, not a weapon and you should NEVER EVER throw your knives. Unless you want the blade to snap off when you use it properly and slice you open to bleed out in the bush.

I was on the fence about this knife for many years. Then I bought one. A year later, I had three. It’s probably one of the best one tool options out there.
The other best OTO (imho) is the TOPS Tahoma Field Knife. I actually like it better than the Tracker
When you buy a T1 Tracker from TOPS Knives, it comes with an instruction manual.
But if you have any experience with a knife in the woods, you should be able to figure it out easy enough.
You could stick the knife in the log and make feather sticks by drawing the wood through the "hook" on the blade,really safe and controlable, but i bet you already know that!?

Bad reviews about this knife are written by fancy boys , men just love it.
I have the Weyland which is every bit as good as the Tom brown, I love the tracker style pattern for a field knife, when knowledgeable on how it is to be used and for what, you can be very effective in its utilization. The quarter round you were using for feather sticks is also used for a gut hook and to have the ability to pierce and slice animal hides for tanning and processing game food, the knife was designed to be a one tool option, I carry minimal gear when. Out and about in bush, for me the tracker is the best choice. I agree it's not for everyone especially for those with no imagination, but for those of us who dare to push our limits and the limits of our gear, which let's face it is the reason for survival preparedness, to overcome and adapt to be able to thrive in any given situation, this knife is a definite answer to that call. It's a great knife and serves me well.
I love my tracker. Ground off the shoulders on the main edge and removed the middle finger groove. After grinding in a rocky mnt tread on the handle, this knife outperforms everything I have. Great review senor.

The best review I’ve seen of this knife yet. I took mine camping with my family and we used many knives and this one was the one most used.
I have had a tracker knife since the 80s. It is my second favorite knife . I didnt find out until about 6 months ago that it was a tracker knife .
I now have 8 different tracker knives .

The Tracker was designed by Rob Russon, and certainly not by tom brown junior, as many people think,,
I think the Boker /Wenger tracker is the best version, and also much cheaper,, (I love mine), 👍👍

For anyone curious... I reground this knife. I received the knife from a bladeforums member wanting to know if i could fix a botched regrind attempt... it was fucked up with a terrible attempt at a hollow grind in the draw knife area. i cleaned it up a-bit changed the spine shape, deepened the quarter round hook and gave both the draw and chopping edges the appropriate convex edges... the results were a functional blade but less than beautiful. My usual regrinds were very similar but without the high hollow grind but rather a higher and thinner mild convex Scandi grind.

I just did a price check, seems this knife is costing around $200 or more. Now I will admit I purchased my "Hunted" style (great movie by the way) knife on Amazon and mine cost me, brace yourself $25. Mine will do each and every thing yours will do, including slitting wood, chopping branches, making cute little curls for starting a fire and made deep notches in timber and lumber. Mine is exactly 1/8 " D2 steel, resistant to corrosion. Mine came with an almost mirror finish which I'm sure might come in handy is signally. Even came with one of those nifty sheaths you wear on the back of your belt like a real tracker. I have used both steel and ceramic rod to it and I'd say it is surgically sharp. Now I'm Scottish which is to say very frugal, why would I spend so much money on a knife when I can get virtually the same thing for a fraction of the cost. Plus mines prettier then yours LOL

Great vid. I personally love the tracker. Mine was stolen a few years back and I haven’t been able to replace it yet but I will. Couple small notes, the hook portion between the flat and curved portion of the blade does a good job cleaning game and the deepest of the notches will actually break chainlink. One tool option? Not really. Great tool to have if it is you only choice, damn straight!
Been in woods many decades the skil is more important than the tool but better tools are better🤠
That is the best feathersticking I've ever seen. I've seen people trying to make it look easy but that was a great 👍 job. Never thought about using that that way. I gotta add usually I'm talking trash to people but I certainly thought what you did was impressive.

I've been watching videos and reading up about this knife for over a year now ....... I like that it's so different and controversial, & i liked what i saw from the start. Only the price has stopped me from pulling the trigger on one, (going so far as to 'add to the online basket' on several occasions, & then delete later on after feeling guilty about spending what is for me a considerable amount of money on something that isn't really a necessity)..... it's not a knife that i need, but it is a knife that i want.

Most people who are critical of this knife, never actually used it or even know how to use it correctly. It is a really brilliantly designed hard work knife
I watched this video, probably shortly after it came out. Great demo of the Tracker. I’ve always had the more traditionally styled survival/bushcraft type of knives. Well, OK I have a Habilis Bushtool, the larger one but it never really worked for me and it kinda turned me against 1095 in a large heavy survival type knife. The edge rolls, it chips, etc...
I really like the design of the Tracker though so while I wait for Dave Beck to open his books for one of his WSK knives, I’m going to run the Tops Tom Brown and see if I like it.

Update, I bought theTops Tom Brown trackers, T1 and a T3. I am enjoying learning the uses for the blades, and I'm finding that like many, I'll reprofile the grind and edges. Your Tracker looks like... well first of all it looks great with all the use you've given it, and it appears that you brought back the drawknife's grind to thin it out, which makes sense. The sawback works like a champ.
I'm digging these trackers.

Great demonstration of the specific way to use this knife. The only thing that really hasn't been shown is the processing of game and the tanning of hides with this knife design. That should be next.

It's a great knife, however, if you are looking to purchase your first survival knife and aren't proficient at blade sharpening, I recommend a more simple design. The curved part would be easy to sharpen for a beginner, but the straight part that transitions into the curved part would be more difficult if you wanted to maintain the curls capability. It would be almost impossible to sharpen that portion if you are used to using a stone sharpener. I saw a version of this knife with removable handle scales that had a mini survival kit inside. Personally, I don't like the idea of taking my survival knife apart in the field------especially if my hands are freezing cold. If you lose the handle scale hardware because of loss of dexterity, then all you have left is a blade with a thin steel handle. Great review of a great knife!! Thanks for sharing!!

Good review, thanks. I'm still debating buying one and which size if I do - mostly because of the weight issue. It's a pretty expensive knife considering there's no good way to know if I'll be in the love it or hate it group.
That's a hell of a knife. I have a buddy who swears by it. I use a smaller 3 inch blade WC knife as my camp chores knife and I carry the large Schf 37 as my batonning and heavy use knife. The 37 has been indestructible so far. Kind of follows my budget. Those are some crazy curls.
I admit I'm a huge tracker knife fan . my best friend has been Caring a tracker knife into combat for ten years now . I have several photos of him caring one scout style in a leather sheath. now he had . I have a photo of him jumping over bodies, running per some hostile gunfire .and you can see that knife strapped behind him . he's tells may all the time , just how useful it is and how many times he's used it in combat . which always surprises me.

Definitely a cool and unique blade
Pulling is a lot less stress on your arms than doing regular feather sticks. I've looked at the Tom Brown smaller version it looks really usable.

I've seen people use the back side to take scales off of a freshly caught fish. Not sure if that's what it's meant for. Also, all of these "What are the many uses for the Tracker blade" videos seems to me that no one really knows why Tom Brown added the things he did to it. You would think that Tom would have released the designs he made for it that also includes his own reasons for each element. Then there would be no guessing or videos needed to speculate. I find this very odd. However, I own one of the mid sized Trackers and I really like it a lot.
Man.. imagine if Tops changed to this type of grind ..The Tracker could quite easily be the best survival knife ever made!
It's not my style of knife but in the hands of a skilled person it is obviously not the train wreck many people say it is. Those wood curls were impressive in the speed and thinness of their creation. You and Adam from Equip2Endure have been the only reviewers I have seen who actually USE the knife. Not just hold it and complain it isn't a Skookum bushtool or LT Wright Genesis. Good useful review.

More videos on this knife the reprofile is spot on
The curved part on the back of the knife has a purpose to. For when you are working with hides you drape the hide over your arm and that curve pulls the meat of the Hide. Also you should try using that thing with your Ferro rod. I tried using it one time, I was used to having to scrape a few times to get the paint off of a new one. But with that one not only did it knock the coating off... I damn near started a house fire. None of my knives throw sparks like that.
I have the Tops version of the tracker the profiles a bit different did you do that profile or did you buy it that way?
I personally like the tra ker knifer along with the one E.j. Snyder designed,if practice with the tools you have then your skills will grow as well depending on what yoi want to do an i agree everyone has there preference.
It would be nice a review of the Saurius from J&V i think nobody have done one of this knive

I have a serious problem with this review. I have seen reviews from people with brand new knives saying this sucks. The world famous nutnfancy reviewed it without even owning the knife. He said it sucked. So you're telling me actual use matters. OMG! LOL! Thumbs up!

This is NOT a typical Tom Brown Tracker as it has been re-ground and while I feel it's certainly better than the NIB Tops product, even a re-grind will not fix the bad blade/tang grip angle which is found only on the original Dave Beck Tracker. Anyone that owns an original Dave Beck "C" model and the Tops copy will notice this difference the very first time one holds and grips the two completely differently built knives. The original Tracker made by Dave has a second hand position for use when chopping that takes advantage of the cant he has always used making his Tracker knives. I own many of these WSK style knives (2 by D.BECK) and except for a Tim Horan copy, made using Dave's pattern and proper grip angle, none of them chop with the ease and comfort like the original Beck Tracker, nor for that matter are they made with the high quality 01 tooled steel used by Mr. Beck. In this case one gets what they pay for and Dave Beck's product is far superior to the copy made by Tops which will only look like the above with a re-grind. Will it work for the neophyte, sure, especially when the blade as been re-ground to more closely approximate the DB knife profile, but then 1095 will never be the steel that 01 is and neither will the chopping due to the aforementioned angle built into original Trackers. It ain't about hating here - simply the differences between "quality" and the quantity of dinero in Tom Brown's wallet which is quite apparent when held in the hand or used in the field.
1095 is good if the heat treatment is good. I like O1 as well. If the OP likes the knife and it looks like it's being used that's good enough. Not everyone likes the same stuff which is also cool.

Kinda brings up the issue of internet talk vs actual field use. I like internet gear talk but what matters around camp is getting the job done. Looks like you are getting the job done so you would be welcome in my camp. Internet hip talk is ok on the lap top or smart phone. Helps pass the time between going out in the woods.
Good demonstration of why you like this knife. To be honest the Tom Brown, Jr. modified design and the TOPS manufactured product is not for me having tried various versions. I have decided to try a version of the original design because for 20 years I have wanted this multipurpose concept to work.

I heard the Bigger notch on the top of the serrated spine is actually used to snap and break barbed wire. If that's true then could you please post a video of you doing so? Thanks...
yes it is and you just twist the thing till the wire snaps a good way to get hurt

Its a German ground Matt. Sometimes called and elephant skin. Not sure of the original size. I cut it down for carry. Look in military surplus sights.

Who modified the blade? The flat section grind is definitely higher than normal. Looks much more usable than the one I had. Edges were way to thick and I had it modified much like yours except I had the edges convexed. Great review. 👍

I got it when it first came out. can't clean game at all. it does chop good. I even tried to profiled the front part of the blade to make it work. it's just not for me. I went back to my Rat 5. tracker sits on the shelf.
The tracker is arguably the best heavy duty knife on the market, & TB has been selling them for top dollar. You can find similar knives with all the same features for under $50 on line and in sporting goods stores all over the place. However, good luck finding anything over the counter that has a 1/4" high carbon steel blade instead of some thin Chinesium pot metal that passes for stainless steel as long as it never leaves the sweat shop floor and never touches a bowdrill spindle.
Front notch is also good on cutting wire fence and things.
Who did your grind profile on your blade??? Wish the tracker came like that from the factory!

Yeah, I'm not sure this is a TOPS version. Certainly not one they are putting out now.

A video explaining the reprofiling of the blade would be greatly appreciated. Did you do the work yourself? How was that much steel removed without overheating it? I own a TBT #1 and would LOVE for it to have the profile yours does.
I believe I mentioned in the video I didn’t do the work on the blade. Not even sure who exactly did. Bought that blade over 10 years ago on a forum.
