    @procommenter quoted by procommenter here but either deleted by vid sharer or deleted by poster, "Don't encourage perversion."
    There is nothing perverted about following your heart. Meredith Baxter is a grown woman in what appears to be a great relationship. It shouldn't matter that it's w/another woman. She is in love so that's all that counts; the last I read, love is never a perversion. Love is something we seek all our lives; those who find it are truly blessed.

  • @jaelge
    @jaelge 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm straight but have had many friendships and acquaintances with gay people through out my life but I just can't understand the relevance or importance of announcing to the world your sexual orientation whether it be straight or gay. It didn't seem to be important to any of my gay friends that issue or special significance be made of their sexual orientation so long as they were accepted and treated as friends, equals or ofttimes just passing acquaintances. And this was in the seventies. What truly has changed since then? We played music together, poked fun of one another regardless of our proclivities.

    • @kumada84
      @kumada84 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +George Penwell Did you bother to watch this video? If you had, you might understand.

    • @jaelge
      @jaelge 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I did. And my question still stands. Being gay is no more significant or relevant now as it was in my day other than the Liberal's, and Leftist's agenda that is using and manipulating the gays, etc for their own device. Again, and for the last time, I will repeat, that the majority of straight people are not really concerned with someone's sexual proclivities so long as these proclivities are not being used as political clout or being pressed upon them.

    • @kumada84
      @kumada84 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Uh.... I was actually referring to the part at the beginning of the video where Meredith Baxter explains the "relevance" of her "announcing to the world [her] sexual orientation", since that seemed to be the thing you were taking issue with. The "relevance", of course, was that her "sexual orientation" was about to be "announced to the world" _by the tabloids_ and she wanted to beat them to the punch. I think that's a pretty good reason.
      But, I'm really happy you were able to use this as an opportunity to present what you clearly believe to be the only valid way for anybody to view this issue - a view I suspect you've generously shared with many of "the gays,etc" you've come into contact with (and, in some cases, even become "friends" with despite their "proclivities" and the fact that they're being "manipulated" by "the Liberals" and "the Leftists"). You also got to use fancy words like "ofttimes", and even managed to turn your comment into a political statement! No, I don't suppose being "gay" is any more "significant" or "relevant" to _you_ now than it was "in your day"; after all...you're not "gay".

    • @jaelge
      @jaelge 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, because it's so important to get ahead of what a gossip rag/tabloid, (who's readers are in the double digit IQ's) might print about you. A truly confident person might just ignore such tripe instead of using it as an opportunity at a last ditch attempt at relevance in their declining celebrity. Attention and visibility is everything in Hollywood. Whether that attention is positive or negative is irrelevant as long as your name is spelled correctly.

    Dear Meredith, I enjoyed Family Ties when you guided your children to be caring. I want yo to go to Heaven and so I am writing here. Please trust in the Lord and you shall be saved. Best Wishes To You!!
    • Jesus says, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
    I have learned through relationships, that people are designed to give/receive 100% of the great amount of love inside each of God's children, should give that huge amount of love only to God in Heaven. Try for example, during difficult, great or ordinary times of life to be still, open your heart and give your love and thanks to God. Feel how wonderful is that condition. Yes, we are to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
    • Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
    • It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes/princesses.

      Ridiculous about her being "slow". Remember her age, she was born in 1947, it's a generational issue, she even alludes to that by saying people do what they watched as children. Also, she was abused by Birney which can delay self-examination and worth which she has talked about. I am 25 years younger than her ... and it was still hard to come out in those years.
      I think she's epic, courageous and has an appealing reserved nature that is very unique. I hope she is brilliantly happy.

    • @julieb7785
      @julieb7785 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@progressives72 Jr. high philosophy, my dear: Know thyself. Actors strike me as people who delve more deeply into themselves than your average Jo. And plenty of women before her were in tune to their own sexuality (which, I know, is not the same as the freedom to come out). Vita Sackville West was married, but she did little to conceal her orientation. I 've read up on Vita not because of her sexuality, but because she is an extraordinary woman and a master gardener. At some point we need to meld and not be so ..."what are you?" We're all human, remarkable for this, not so great at that, and usually a fallible work in progress .... and p.s. Vita is far more "epic" than Baxter.

    • @progressives72
      @progressives72 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@julieb7785 Your arrogance reveals you. Of course one's "epicness" in the eyes of others is subjective -- for you to suggest a woman you respect is more epic than one I admire is sophomoric, sloppy and relevatory.
      You clearly could not absorb very simple yet powerful facts about Baxter's life so let me assist you:
      1) she was born before 1950 which is impactful in issues like this. You couldn't even comment on the generational difficulty of coming out for a woman like her. I am reminded of a book by Judy Nelson, a woman who looks very much like Baxter, was married to a successful Dallas doctor -- and fell head over heals in love with Martina Navratilova. It surprised her deeply and she too had lived a life like Baxter: beautiful woman who was the playtoy and disrespected by her husband. Despite her love for women which she discovered later in life, she had a hard time coming to terms with revealing it publically.
      2) Baxter has talked in depth at how she was neglected as a child. That of course affected her self-esteem. Women with low self-esteem tend to follow societal norms -- like getting married and having children even if said marriages weren't happy and indeed abusive in her case.
      3) The has said she developed a drinking habit to cope during her marriage to Birney who was incredibly vicious physically and emotionally. Does that mean she is weak ... or did she do all she could to survive? She is a SURVIVOR.
      All of these issues are connected. The childhood neglect, the subsequent low self-esteem, being unable to get out of bad relationships and the resulting drinking issue.
      Your blanket whitewash that "actors delve more deeply into themselves" is so sloppy and irresponsible. Stereotype much?
      I think Baxter is heroic. She is completely authentic, speaks of her own role in not examining her life more closely before she did when she finally asked Birney for a divorce. She OWNS that. She is also very private and clearly uncomfortable in the spotlight yet felt a duty to take control of her life story rather than let the tabloids do it ... and to help other, younger women if she could.
      I watched another interview on how she met her current wife. She talked to her on the phone for a year without knowing her but guess why? She sponsored her as her wife tried to stop drinking. They didn't even know each other, she was just helping a stranger ... and for a long time. Eventually they met and fell in love but that speaks volumes to me on who Baxter is.
      You may prefer the gardner -- I prefer the courageous Ms. Baxter.

      @progressives72 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@julieb7785 P.S. RE your asinine comment " At some point we need to meld and not be so ..."what are you?" "
      You clearly have ZERO knowledge, respect or understanding of what gay women have gone through historically to come out. Ask Ellen who lost her career even in 1997 for coming out. Ask the brilliant, Yale educated actress Jodie Fosters who has a serious intellect ... but not the ovaries to have come out until recently.
      Ask me who had to watch the woman I loved marry, have three children and go through her own process before she was able to break free of societal pressure to leave him and for us to be together ... and with five children, two of our own.
      Oh it's just so "easy" according to out of touch people like you. That is why you belong in the past Julie. Unless of course you CHOOSE to update your archaic and simplistic views.
