  • This morning, one of my all-time favorite actresses, Meredith Baxter, revealed a personal secret she's been struggling with for years; she's a lesbian.
    Meredith said quite eloquently that if you liked her before, that means you've liked a gay person. And she's still the same person.
    MEREDITH I LOVE YOU! YOU'RE THE BEST!

      @@georgeschubert9652 She probably didn’t know she was gay . Her husband, by the way beat her and abused her for many years. She didn’t set out to hurt anyone. We live in a culture where being gay is (or was) forbidden and socially unacceptable. It used to be a crime punishable by death, so it makes sense that gay people didn’t feel safe to admit, even to themselves, that they are gay. Meredith is a vulnerable woman who did the best she could, And we can not judge her or anyone because we can’t know all the information.

      But is it a sin? The Bible references it in the same light that it views out of wedlock relations. 2000 years ago there was no such thing as monogamous same-sex relationship, so The Bible never discusses loving monogamous gay relationships. In the same vein that The Bible views eating shellfish as a bad thing but society has evolved past it, I think judging what Meredith does by calling it a sin isn't quite right either.

      @@BigDaddy-vr2ut so according to you, people should never come out, but just live their lives without addressing their changing sexuality? Are you saying that if someone close to you all of a sudden started dating a member of the same sex, you would not be shocked, and you would just go about your business as usual without asking any questions, or asking them what’s going on? This is the purpose of coming out. People absolutely want to be able to just live their lives. Unfortunately, people like you are the reason we can’t. You claim you don’t want to hear this stuff, but these are public figures. People are going to see this woman out in public with her partner, and they will suspect and gossip. Rather than having it be some perceived secret, she decided to publicly address it. It’s freeing. It’s not for attention, sympathy or any other reason. It’s so that she can live her life in peace and not feel like she has to hide from strangers. Of course, this is all very obvious to normal people...

I am bisexual & I hate when people don't believe that bisexuality exists..."Oh, you're just dabbling/being pretentious/lying about who you are, and eventually you'll come around and realize you're straight/gay." There's prejudice all around. If a person is gay & comes out, they're usually believed & at least receive some deeply felt reaction from audiences, negative or positive. If a person comes out as bisexual, usually everyone just rolls their eyes.

    I'm heterosexual and damn proud of it!! God made us this way: girls are supposed to like boys and marry boys and boys are suppose to like girls and marry girls. Oh yeah, I'm also a devout Catholic girl and am damn proud of it too and I will always stand by my belief that marraige should always be between a man and a woman!!

      Nobody gives a $hit. Be proud of who you are. And your religious bigotry/indoctrination. It makes you sound pathetic but it's entirely your perigative to be a scumbag if you feel so inclined 🤷

    @wildnites558 I think what I am saying is, that regardless of whether or not she is gay, she is still Meredith Baxter the actress to me. Yep, I get a bit annoyed with the whole attitude of coming out thing used as a soap box to go on about every other issue that is bothering them, however as a celebrity she must feel that she can use this outlet to get everything off her chest.

    Why is this considered news?

  • @KristinandIdinagirl
    @KristinandIdinagirl 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Actually, she was probably just trying to hide and/or suppress her sexuality. A lot of gay people do that.

    thanks Meredith for telling us. I'll file this under "who gives a shit". Catch me tomorrow on the CBS Early Show where I come out of the closet at hetero. It's a can't miss interview and just as important as your announcement.

    @mpdsmom No problem. :) I just don't think people should restrict their social circles to those who believe exactly what they do; we never learn or progress without differences. My philosophy on friendship is essentially "if you'll be my friend, I'll be your friend." (I had moved 20 times by age 16 & was a lonely child.)
    And it's an absolute truth that everyone deserves respect and the right to make up their own mind.

    For those of us who grew up in the 50's being gay was not even on the radar and it took much longer to realize that's why things were going so badly. NO it does not discredit the innate part of it. Social stigma, oppression, punishment etc can make it take a longer period of time. Good, no great for you Meredith. YAHOO.

    A lot of lesbians come to accept their sexuality late in life. I know a number of gay men, who also come out after marriage and children. The "choice" is acknowledging your true feelings, not choosing to have certain feelings.
