- @FoundryVTT has now partnered with @DNDWizards to bring official content to Foundry VTT's DnD5e system!
After watching Foundry's 2+ hour twitch stream and playing in the VTT for almost a week, here are the top 50 new features I've found.
NOTE Before Updating: It may take some time before all modules are updated to be fully compatible with DnD5e 3.0. There were significant changes that could cause complications with modules that haven't been updated. Upgrade with caution.

Thank you for the overview. I'm surprised that Foundry hasn't done a video going into these details.
Yeah that's why I wanted to make this. They did a brief trailer and then did deep dive vua a 2hr+ Twitch stream, but I wanted something in the middle.
Great breakdown of features. Thank you!
First video I've seen on this channel. Very unique, very well put together. A little constructive criticism as well double check your editing there's a few misspellings and a strange random capitals. Also, your voice over audio volume varies greatly from tip to tip. That's a very very very very very very very very very very very very small nitpick this was very done! I also learned a few things I thought I knew all the knew all the new features.
Hey thanks, always appreciate constructive criticism when presented so kindly. I use a video editor that auto generates the captions but I'll keep a better eye on reviewing what it churns out. And def working on recording levels and audio mixing, hopefully that keeps getting better. Thanks for the feedback 😀
Also, music was a bit to loud so it was overpowering the voice over a bit. Should make sure it's more background music and not so prominent. :)
But, this was a great and informative video. Good luck with all the content you are planning on doing.
Keep it up and learn from feedback and don't get discouraged by negative comments you may get along the way.
Thanks for posting! I'll have to wait for my campaign to settle, before I try updating my Forge worlds, but I look forward to that time.
Godly vid and update subbed and liked!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing 😊🎉❤
Amazing overview! Thanks a lot for this video...fundamental!!
But...where i can found the Passive Perception box in the Character Sheet? i'm going mad about it
Thanks a lot againg!
Thanks so much for the feedback! Sadly it look lik it's been removed from the sheets. I would imagine it was done in an attempt to highlight the new 'Passive Perception' feature in the journals, instead of needing it to be information the players need to look up and verbally tell the DM. Maybe they will add this back later but for now it looks like it's not on the sheet.
Excellent video, subbed! Just to be constructive here: I think the music is just a bit too loud to the point of a tad distracting. Thank you and looking forward to your videos.
Thanks and I appreciate the feedback. I need to tweak my setup for recording the VO so that should help in the future too.
Is there anyway to alter the top banner on the new character sheets? Cant seem to find anything myself
How do you do the callouts and linked DC checks?
damn... I've been putting of DL this, but it looks great. And some of it seems to replace mods that I had to use to automate things like Bless or attacks/saves.
Since I haven't updated my games yet, still waiting for all the modules I use to update. Does this new update to the system make it easier to edit certain aspect of the game? I play a heavily homebrew 5e. For example, one thing I really liked that they were doing in OneD&D was the new exhaustion rule a straight -1 to all rolls as they stack. Would you be able to edit the current exhaustion rules to do that instead?
I'm not aware of any way to tweak something like that, as it's a core 'rule' so to speak. There's likey a module or some javascript coding you can use to accomplish this but it's not currently native to the system.
You can actually create a item or effect that give the player a -1 in ther checks or savings (or boths),its similar to the Stone of Good Luck but in reverse and with every subsequent exaustion lvl you can easily add another -1
does anyone where i can get the syntax for all of these things to work?
For some reason, casting Bless (for example) I don't get the Effects bit at the bottom in chat. Can't find an option to turn that on/off either. Did you have to do anything special?
To my knowledge there are no settings that affect this. The most likely culprit is your version (dnd5e I think is currently best suited for v11) or it's possible an installed Module is interfering with the Chat Card display.
To test you could launch the world with all the modules disabled. In 'Setup', simply right lick a World > select Edit > click the checkbox Launch in Safe Configuration > click Update World > then launch your world. If the Effects dropdown appears in Safe Configuration, then it's likey a module causing the issue, tho it will take some testing to figure out which one.
@@quillsandquests Thanks. I'm all up to date with versions, so you may well be right about the Module conflict thingy. I'll disable them all, see if it works, then re-enable to find the culprit.
@@quillsandquests Thanks. Still no luck. Odd. It prompts for some things (saves, attacks, etc.) but not to apply any effects.
Oh well, I'll continue with DFreds until it becomes more stable. Thanks for the help.
I had this issue and turns out it was midi-qol beta that was causing it.
@@prizepig I didn't have Midi-QoL installed, so it wasn't that for me. Been resolved now with an update. Was a little weird, but got it all working fine. Thanks for help and advice.
hey. How do I do the two callouts demonstrated in the video?
The only way I've been able to add this is my changing the edit mode to Markdown. I haven't found a way in the GUI to turn things into a callout otherwise. When editing a journal, you canc click the 'Sheet' button next to the cog icon and using 'This Sheet' drop-down, you can change the text editor to Markdown mode. Here's the Markdown syntax I used for these:
You can use this box to let the DM know what to read aloud to their players. It looks very similar to callouts in official 5e books!
Icon CalloutsYou can create a callout with a highlighted image for special items, characters, locations, etc.
I was super excited to see D&D partner with foundry, but wasn’t impressed when I tried it out. I’m going to stick with pf2e for the time being and see what happens with one D&D and test out 5e after it’s had some times to get flushed out.
How do you create a Party group for your players?
When you're creating a new 'Actor' there is a 'Type' drop-down box where you can slect 'Group'. Once created, it should default to 'Party' but you can switch between Group, Party, Encouter with a drop-down box on the new Sheet. With this Sheet you can name the group, change the icon, and click-drag Actors or Items from their respective menus into the Sheet itself. Once you have it all set up the way you want it, go back to the 'Actor' menu, right-click on the Party and select 'Set as Primary Party' which adds a little blue star next to the Party name. Once you have it set as a Primary Party, you can use things like Awards and Passive Perception with that Party.
Thank you so much for the in depth explanation! @@quillsandquests
Great video!
My only feedback is to lower the background music. It’s too loud and overpowers your voice which makes it hard to understand every word you’re saying.
Thanks for the feedback, always helpful to know those types of things. I'm continuing to work on my audio recording and mixing so hopefully future videos will be better.
Where is the feature to run AD&D? WotC owns all of it. Where is the old school AD&D stuff? No thanks.
