      Brady and the Pats set the blueprint for a modern day dynasty and Mahomes and Kelce are out there proving it works. Top talent taking 2nd tier money means a stronger team. The sooner more players/teams buy in, the sooner we see another dynasty. The problem is finding 2-3 players that don't let $$$ cloud their vision.
      It's also helpful that Mahomes immediately had the sponsorship opportunities (ketchup on steak got him one) and Kelce now has his podcast going and a media career waiting for him. They're getting paid elsewhere too.

Burrow couldn't even put up more than 20 Vs KC, and this is considering that Mahomes gifted him the ball by forgetting how to hold on to it, with a chance to make it 27-13. Burrow got the ball back twice at 20-20 and he choked. Burrow can't keep up with high octane offenses. The Bengals playoff success has been due to their defense. If you ask Burrow to score 30 for you in the playoffs, or put up a big game, he can't. He can vs an injured Ravens secondary though.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe at the time of his signing, Mahomes' contract was the highest AAV. Even Brady had the highest AAV at the time he signed one of his "earlier" contracts (around 2010 I believe). The only way to always be highest paid is to constantly only sign 1 year deals, which is very risky.

    • @rickyrobby8133
      @rickyrobby8133 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That isn’t how that works, 99% of the time you’re going to be the “highest paid” the issue HOW MUCH you’re paid and for how long.
      If you’re locked in for a decade, that deal is going to be MASSIVELY undervalued after 4-5 years which is how long most players sign for before getting another after two or three.
      I’ll give you an extreme example, if you’re making 150K per year, but you can’t get a raise or get any more money until you retire, it sounds good now and is good money. But will it thirty years from now? I guarantee you people will be making 200k looking at you funny.

    • @tigera6
      @tigera6 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The issue with Mahomes contract was the length of it, and everybody knew he would get passed over on AAV in just a couple years and its already happening now. The best contract for Mahomes would be some kind a "% of the salary cap" type if that was possible with the CBA.

    • @joshpreston9246
      @joshpreston9246 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@rickyrobby8133 That is exactly how it works. Short contracts are opting for more money over security. Long contracts are opting for more security over money.
      Even if he signed for 4-5 years instead of 10 for the same AAV, he'd still have been the highest at the time, he'd still currently have the 7th highest AAV, he'd only be ONE YEAR into that deal and wouldn't be getting a new deal till AT LEAST NEXT YEAR anyway.
      In your example, sure, it would look like less. But what if you were also guaranteed to get paid that 150K every year till you retire no matter what while your coworker was getting a 2K raise every year but with no guarantee? If you both got in an accident 20 years before retirement that left you both unable to work, and you were getting 150K every year while he got 0 per year, your deal suddenly looks a LOT better now doesn't it? Now add to it you work in a job where a high percentage of people get injured and can no longer work.
      Mahomes opted for security over more money. His contract is very long and is basically always fully guaranteed for the current year and following year. In return, the team has flexibility to help him build his legacy, which is worth more than the difference he'd be getting by signing a new contract every year. I would also understand if he wanted to sign a new contract every year to be the highest paid, and he'd deserve it. Personally, I would take the security with still a ton of money over the high risk with possibly high money.

    • @joshpreston9246
      @joshpreston9246 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    As a Bengals fan I am praying that Joe take less money. He has the skill and ability to bring this team even in the lower years far, and if he can keep some of that money around to pay Chase and other key pieces then I think it will pay off for him both in legacy and financially in the long run. Mahomes produced like a Tier 3 or Tier 4 QB in that Super Bowl against Tampa a few years back, behind a banged up offensive line. And that was with Tyreek Hill AND Travis Kelce. But last season, he played behind a brick wall all the way to another championship (the Eagles had what was supposed to be an elite defensive front, but they couldn’t get close to him).
      Burrow being as great as he’s been behind bad offensive line play his entire career (so far) is a testament to the fact that he’s easily a Tier 1 guy. Elite receivers aside, Burrow’s managed to win everything but the biggest prize without the one thing more important to a QB on the field than great pass catchers (see: great pass protection). Give Burrow time in the pocket like Mahomes just had throughout his latest championship run, and you’ll see similar results.

      You should have read my initial comment again. Yes, in that Super Bowl against Tampa, Mahomes WAS pressured more than any QB ever. THAT’S my point. He’d never faced that kind of pressure before, and the result was 0 TD’s to 2 TO’s. I’m not even blaming him, but don’t act like Burrow’s being propped up by an elite pass catcher when Mahomes had TWO of them in SB 55 and STILL produced next to nothing behind a bad, injured offensive line. Burrow’s dealt with bad offensive line play and/or injuries to his linemen throughout this career. He gets the ball out quickly to compensate for it, and there’s less than 8 yards difference per game between he and Mahomes as rushers. Stop making up narratives to support your argument

Their one glaring weakness has been a lack of pass protection, which they addressed in large part by signing Orlando Brown this offseason. In hindsight, it makes sense that they’re already this good. Nicks stats comparing Herbert's seasons are misleading. He was missing his entire recieving core at 1 point. They were starting their special teams player at WR. That and he lost his starting left tackle for the season week 2. Even in the playoff loss he didn't have williams, and his backup left tackle went out. Nick said it though, the chargers are ALWAYS hurt by injuries.

      @jenniferaceste8823 you're talking about a single game, and he still had Kelce. I'm talking about the stats for a SEASON... of course Herbert's stats were gonna be down last year, he had nobody to throw to for more than half the season. And he has cracked ribs and tore his Labrum in the playoff loss.

      Yeah, well during that game, KC was down 4 WR'S, an RB on IR, the other RB played with a torn labrum & fractured wrist who played that game & the SB (had 2 surgeries after the SB) who played injured, Kelce played with back spasms, we also lost our top LB & CB & Mahomes had a grade 2 high ankle sprain. Still WON the game!

    Stop saying Mahomes is underpaid, he can ask for whatever he wants or whatever makes sense for the team to be able to sign other players and keep competitive or even have the advantage if he gets paid less is more likely to get better players around him, it's the same that Tim Brady did

    The salary cap continues to rise every year. A few years ago, the Niners made Garoppolo one of the highest paid QBs in the league. 3 years in and he dropped to 7th. Now his $27M a year contract seems like a very lower number for a quality starting QB.

    2023: Top 5 QBs salary averages $50million per year
    2013: Top 5 QBs salary averages $17.5million per year…with #5-11 making between $12m-$13m.
    I understand these people deserve to make as much as they possibly can but this increase is insane. Would be nice if we were still paying 2013 or even 2018 ticket prices.
    I’m happy these people are making generational wealth just sad that it cost nearly $1000 or more to take a family of 4 to see your favorite NFL team after tickets, parking, food/drink, and maybe some team NFL swag.
    Don’t even get me started on the SB…cheapest SB57 ticket was nearly $6000 after fees. That’s per ticket cost. Average ticket was over $10k…what average American can afford that. Sad we are pricing American sports tickets (and team jerseys/swag) out of reach for many sports fans.

    Florio knows that player salaries come from shared revenue from tv deals. Since he knows this, he's actually accusing clark of cooking the books and embezzeling shared revenue. It borders on defamation.
