Story writing was a nice addition this time around. Really adds to the imersion, which is fun and is sometimes missed with other youtubers
Yes
Your little "addition" at the beginning of Your video is... Pretty good. You nailed the immersion when it comes to the whole "should I go to war with NATO, or not?" Thing
Two years on and the disclaimers for playing Russia in modern day HOI4 are getting shorter and less authentic haha
As they should, you don't see anyone making appologies when they play countries who did war crimes in WW2 when playing Vanilla
@@hugobernard9874 I don't mind not having a disclaimer but you gotta admit that a nation that did war crimes half a century ago is different than one doing warcrimes like, today and prolly yesterday too.
@@christianbroadbent7489i would remain careful with the idea of accusing of war crime when there are no concrete proof.
@@christianbroadbent7489 That's the issue of playing modern conflicts, but in this case and for other cases too all nations who participate in a war are doing crimes, there is no such a thing as a clean war.
@@JeanFares6970 Are you trying to claim Russia has done no war crimes or am I reading your comment wrong? Because Im pretty sure we got hours of footage of Russian missiles hitting and killing Civilians, or the UN investigated and confirmed Bucha massacre.

I like how you had an option to remove the bloated welfare system, chose not to, and then wondered why your consumer goods were vanishing XD

No water supply for agriculture
Drop of 200k in population

@@sababugs1125 the drop in tourism was not a long lasting issue the next years it got more tourists than it did under ukriane.
The water issue is entirely ukriane fault btw they almost created an environmental disaster, nobody said a word though.
Russia had to bring in water by constructing a pipe system however since 2022 crimeans once more have water because russia took control ove the crimean canal.
There is no recorded drop in the population and none of the pro ukrianians articles which make the claim provide any source .
Really rather than the the nuclear weapon button being a "You Lose", there should be a Crisis Escalation mechanic that is determined by multiple factors - including WMDs but also the fall of various cities (specifically near the Polish border). Ukraine could have escalation as well, like bombing Russian soil or inviting NATO aligned troops. Tactical nukes would be on a medium level, and global nuclear war would be the end of the escalation ladder. Both sides would have to watch the escalation mechanic, as it getting too high for Ukraine means the Russians nuke you and if it gets too high for Russia then NATO deploys troops or creates no fly zones.
Across the dnieper, so poetic
I think the storytelling part at the start was great
Colonel Cam. The Siloviki side of the focus tree expands after you coup Vladimir Putin, which got a focus where you can declare war with NATO after defeating Ukraine.
Hey Cam keep up the good work, been watching you since part 1-2 of the Falangist Poland run and been hooked ever since. A suggestion for a vid could be Poland in Kaiserreich. They have a pretty good Focus and you can choose many outcomes from remaining with Germany or becoming independent, joining Austria or Russia. It truly would be a blast. :)
Your civs were getting eaten up by consumer goods, when you hover over the consumer goods factory number it should say where its coming from
He did hover over them, I don’t know what specifically caused them tho. I think it might’ve been his mobilization and low stability? Or maybe the other economic system they have in the game?

how did they make nuclear war event scarier than tnos?
I swear, watching hoi4 videos about the Russian Ukraine war feels so surreal
Vietnam was kind of like Ukraine in reverse.
The average native conscripts were poorly equipped, but they were also supported by the USSR with modern equipment and their AA took out over 10k aircraft which the US and her allies were completely unprepared for.
When I'm in a having controversial political opinions competition and my opponent is a Hoi4 modder:
I hope this comment section is peaceful and respectable to each other 🥰
Considering how I make up stories in my own HOI4 games, the story addition was great.
Loved this one
Okay, tbh in start I think that he said:"Putin raised his hand and said:"Hail!""

I feel like one of the things weird about the mod is just how much buffs Ukraine gets. Even if you fix everything wrong with the Russian army before the war. Realistically if thats the case, they'd get steamrolled.

@@marysartr No it's not

having seen a presentaiton on war games about Russia fighting Nato, basically Russia couldn't hope to defeat the west. At most they probably could take most of Latvia and Estonia in a very optimistic scenario for the Russians, and even in that case attacking Lithuania would doom any Russian invasion as result of Lithuania basically being the big eastern logistics hub for Nato, plus Russia also has Finland and Sweden closing the Baltic Sea for their navy thanks to some anti ship missiles in Finland, plus the Swedish fleet
that mod is insanely biased lol
Youre just bad
@@Apsisikelis69yeah taking away equipment constantly is me being bad
@@ryannowo5954Its trying to emulate real life supply problems and modern frontlines in an arcady map painting game from 2016 and it applies both for russia and ukraine. If you play the 2014 as ukraine will just be bombarded with heavy debuffs while russia just sits out the war.
It isnt biased, its just hard.
@@Aaron067 yeah constant debuffs very fun
@@ryannowo5954 that's just war. Read a soldier point of view book from an author that was in a war, it's almost always a mess of logistics, supply and command. Operations are planned yes, but nothing is going to be 100% efficient, wouldn't be a war otherwise.
Morals? In hoi4?? UNBELIEVABLE!
Fun fact, modern guerrilla warfare like in vietnam and afghanistan only worked because of the Geneva Convention. Historically guerrilla groups would be destroyed through genociding the local populace, very good example of that being the Romans in Judea, Illyria and in Gaul with the deaths ranging from 500k in judea to 1 million dead and another 1 million sold to slavery in Gaul.
Another example is the Harrying of the North in the winter of 1069-1070, where the bastard of Normandy subjugated Northumberland by killing 75% of the population, according to the Domesday Book written in 1086. There was also reports of people engaging in cannibalism, eating normally taboo animals like cats and dogs, and even people selling themselves into slavery in a desperate attempt to avoid the conquerors wrath.
50 years later the chronicler Orderic Vitalis wrote: "The King stopped at nothing to hunt his enemies. He cut down many people and destroyed homes and land. Nowhere else had he shown such cruelty. This made a real change. To his shame, William made no effort to control his fury, punishing the innocent with the guilty. He ordered that crops and herds, tools and food be burned to ashes. More than 100,000 people perished of starvation. I have often praised William in this book, but I can say nothing good about this brutal slaughter. God will punish him".
>Fun fact, modern guerrilla warfare like in vietnam and afghanistan only worked because of the Geneva Convention. Historically guerrilla groups would be destroyed through genociding the local populace
Yeah, totally no genociding happened in Vietnam
Not if the populace is being armed with guns. All it takes is some other nation with a bunch of stuff at its disposal to very much break your whole wartime strategy.
@donaldtrumplover2254 they still need food, which most of would be sourced locally and nothing prevents you from destroying all crops and killing all livestock with aircraft. Depending on the end goal the conqueror has in mind the local populace is better off dead and replaced with settlers and colonists once the dust has settled.
Even if the populace is armed they won't be able to do anything against an opponent that doesn't need them or plan to keep them alive. Afghanistan for example was a war to replace the government structure of the country, which meant the Soviets and the Americans needed the population of Afghanistan alive.
Who are trying to deceive America lost because it lost
The us committed genocide in every country they invaded
Just compare civilian deaths of iraq to Ukraine war

Personally I don’t think that Russia under any case can win a peer to peer conventional war against NATO, assuming NATO commits everything to the war.
Russia doesn’t have many stealth aircraft and do they even have weapons for them, i.e the ones you can put in their weapons bay. Russian Armed Forces was extremely devastated by the war in Ukraine, they won’t be able to fight NATO at all.
There is no field where the Russians are superior to NATO, let alone equal.
Yeah, Russia would eventually become desperate and.. Nuclear war.
@@LukaSchoone-sd1wnThis is their trump card (no pun intended), that they have more nukes than all of NATO and a plurality of all nukes in the world.
Early war would russia dominate, estonia has 4k personel in the entire army
Russia is already fighting the entirety of NATO in Ukraine and the only thing that is devastating was burnt NATO equipment along the border
@@patrickkloiber741 which are well trained for delaying such bigger force + nato spearhead forces are present

They are still struggling tho
@@donaldtrumplover2254 fun fact, ukraine deployed more man in the front than russia
@@donaldtrumplover2254 they're advancing on every front and started their kharkiv offensive not too long ago, they haven't been struggling since last year
@@elpanchomayonesa8069 Yes that is what should happen, they are a nation trying to compete with a country that has had 10x more money to spend on its military over two decades before the war. Russia is having a hard time taking a few km at a time with the total pre war population worth of cities taken in the past 6 months not even amounting to 100,000. Even if you combine the aid given with the total military expenditure of Ukraine since its existence it still doesn’t match up to the total Russian military expenditure since 2003.

I got a Bundeswhr letter to sign up for the military, I wont sign up. Especially when I have to fight a war against orthodox christian brothers. But when I asked my non-orthodox christian friends or non-christian at all about the letter, they too declined to fight for Germany. I dont blame them, for what to fight for? Nobody wants to die at the front. Russians on the other hand see the war as their duty (like the chinese). So, Germany couldnt even mobilise a fraction of the military that Russia has stationed in Ukraine.
IMMA LION🦁PIZZA🍕CHICKEN🐔
Say it again
Bro speaks English, but failed English
Topical
Because I am totally normal I am actually going to talk about why I don't think Russia could win a war against NATO.
1. Geography: Russia has the very unfortunate situation of its entire heartland existing in the Great Northern European Plain, which stretches from the coastlines of France all the way to the Urals. Now this does give Russia some advantages as well, they could if lucky speed through Northern Europe, Crushing Poland and the Baltics, and quickly making their way through Germany, but this quickly leads to a big problem, the frontline would become overstretched. Having a Frontline from Romania to Western Europe would be extremely costly to maintain, sending resources so far through such a small region, not to mention all of that would be within bombing distance, making it even harder. Furthermore this doesn't consider other geographical features like rivers and mountains, which are great for defense, but awful for assaulting. NATO would have partial or complete control of the Vistula, Oder, Elbe, Danube, Rhine, Seine, Loire, Rhone, Po, Garonne, Ebro, and Tagus rivers, and those are just the big ones; not to mention all the mountain ranges like the Carpathians, Alps, Pyrenees, Balkans, and the Apennines. This would be a nightmare for the Russians to deal with, but that wouldn't be all. The Russians would also have to fight multiple fronts because of said Geography, the could be fighting in Northern Europe, Eastern Europe, The Balkans, possibly Anatolia, and the Far East (if the US decides to cross from Alaska to said Far East, though this might not be a good idea, Far East would be useless to invade as there is only one route from there to the west and it is a singular train track).
2. Home Advantage/threat to way of life: The European members of NATO would have home advantage, using their knowledge of roads, rivers, towns, cities, hills, etc. to be able to stall the Russians, plus civilians would most likely set up militias and sabotage Russian efforts, effectively stalling the Russian advance. Furthermore, people are much more likely to fight for their own countries survival than people think, the Polish Resistance and the French Resistance come to mind for most, but it happens in many countries. People are much more likely to take up arms and die if they think their way of life is genuinely in danger, for example the only time in Australian history that conscription was accepted, and the only time US soldiers were allowed to operate in Australia, was right after Japan had invaded the entire pacific, and Darwin was bombed. I am sure the peoples of Germany and France would go and sign up because their nations ideals would be at risk.
3. Cohesion: NATO isn't just an alliance, it is an entire military command structure, with a well detailed and highly trained and effective military force that has had 70 odd years of constant training, with so many nations in play they had to make sure the entire system worked, and while we haven't seen NATO fight a conventional war, they seem to operate in training very well, and I am sure they have perfected the art of cohesion, something Russia is... lacking.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk that probably no one will see.

14:54 Ukraine survived because of a lack of cohesion on the russian side. They ran out of fuel for their tanks, they didn't have any understanding of the terrain and didn't have any maps, the units weren't properly briefed on what was happening, they had unencrypted comms (meaning the Ukrainians could listen in and locate who was talking), and they underestimated the Ukrainian resolve and suffered ambush upon ambush.

putins dreams:
Russian troops were actually in Kiev and when Ukraine was planning to surrender, they agreed that Russian troops would be pulled out of Kiev, Ukraine didn't hold to their part of the agreement and started an entire counteroffensive. That's why Russian troops had to pull back, they weren't expecting Ukraine to not hold to their part of the agreement.
