Edward James Olmos was so closely identified with this role that when he won an Emmy for it, the first thing he said in his acceptance speech was “Yes, Lt. Castillo does smile..”
The Golden Triangle is one of my top episodes! I recently watched Michael Mann's debut film, Thief, for the first time. I don't know why I hadn't seen it before. It was really great, and quite a few actors in that movie went on to be in episodes of Miami Vice, such as Dennis Farina and John Santucci, featured here in this clip, who plays a perfect scumbag.
Like Chris Nolan, Spike lee, Tarentino even Spielberg. these directors had a group of top actors that they consistently used in their film/tv projects. Mann certainly had his group. and later included those that best fit into his group. Miami Vice was a playground for fantastic actors up and coming. i remember, everyone and everyone mother wanted to get in on an episode of Vice.
The NBC Crime Story was a 1960s version of Miami Vice with actor Dennis Farina playing a tough Chicago IL cop 👮🏽♂️ who later becomes a federal narcotics Bureau agent(this was later called DEA). Crime Story only ran 3-4 seasons; 1986 to 1990 or so.
@@DavidLLambertmobileIt was two seasons only sadly. The final episode ended with a fight between Farina and Denison's character's inside a crashing airplane. We don't get to see what happens afterwards because the show was not continued after the second season.
Miami Vice was more than a cop series of the 1980's but one of the biggest phenomenon on NBC from 1984 to 1989 and own the series on Blu-ray right now along with Knight Rider and Magnum P.I. with Tom Selleck.
The "Golden Triangle" episodes provide insight into Castillo's character, which up to that point had been very mysterious. Notably, Edward James Olmos does not speak in Castillo's normal mumbling voice, expresses anger when he tries to choke Menton, and even goes so far as to shout (albeit just a single word, "Wrong!") at Menton after the final confrontation.
4:41 I have read that EJO is undergoing treatment for throat cancer. Please send prayers 🙏 and best wishes for a full recovery ❣️ one of my most favorite actors❤
The guy had a natural talent given his past, no acting lessons teach the kind of performances he gave here and in Crime Story. Michael Mann really has a knack for finding these type of people.
nowadays tough guys in tv and movies they don't ring true, you arent intimidated by them, but Castillo was one of those guys who fitted the aura and mood of real tough guys you met in the street, a guy who commanded respect just by entering a room, and that goes beyond acting, you've gotta earn that in real life, which EJO obviously did.
Castillo was one of those characters you really did not want to push over the edge. You knew this was serious if it rattled him this much. The man was a stone.
Santucci here in scene - Incredible Actor ! He was in Michael Manns Thief as a corrupt cop. He got into james cain skin in Thief just like he did here with Castillo in this scene . WOW So good!
I think Dale minton should have returned for The prodigal son they should have made it where he gets out of jail through a quick call Washington and he slips through the system and minton was in New York working with the rivias or they should have had him team with maynard

Legendary Series like this just don't exist anymore. Castillio was rock solid in his role. It molded the 80's. There has been nothing like it since.
He and Phil Collins pretty much owned a huge part of that decade.
EJO was born to play Castillo ♥️
Absolutely 💯 No one could play this role like him. He added so much to Miami Vice
AGREED!
Just like sharpened samurai sword 🗡️ safely stored in a sheath to be used in combat at a the last resort. This guy learns the hard way .

Favourite show of all time💕💙
I wasn't sure about the Lt. when he started but this was when I really started liking his character.
This specific episode! Didn't get much better than this one!
I was a DJ in Tampa, Orlando, and Coral Gables in the 80's. Miami Vice was NOT just a TV show.
RIP to Domino 📻 105.9fm in Florida. 🏖

The women were stunning in south Florida
When I was growing up, I was either Crockett or Tubbs. As I get older, I thrive for Boss Castillo's level of calmness
The best scene is when they bust this jerk’s little party lol.
When Castillo walks into the room, Chuck Norris, Clint Eastwood and Charles Bronson all salute !!!!
Yeah
Definatley !
Tubbs refered to Castillo as a Cuban Charles Bronson in the first episode Castillo was introduced.
Bullshit. He salutes Eastwood.
@@goreds551"Charles Bronson by way of Havana" 😂😂
Miami Vice was not just a show it was a way of life
Great episode. VICE LIVES!!!
I Love This Scene.
Miami Vice! 💕💙💕💙💕
A favorite scene from a favorite episode!!!
This might have been the best episode of the entire series.
Out where the busses don't run, Calderon saga and opening pilot was the best .
The great McCarthy is better
Evan
the scene only yes
hands down one of the best arcs in the series
Castillo was the ultimate badass
He hit a nerve with castillo about his wife. Never get an attitude with castillo or you might be lacking oxygen to breathe.
He’d already hit a nerve by proclaiming proudly that he’d given up Castillo’s team, so that Castillo’s men were wiped out.
Great scene from a great episode. Miami Vice helped define the 80's.

And as his wife’s plane leaves he says to Crockett
“In all the time you’ve known me have I ever had a drink?”
“No”
“Good…take me to a bar…”
Castillo was chocking him out with one hand, he is strong
Gettum castillo with the master choke hold!
Loved this episode.

Castillo was always intimidating...even more so when he smiled...
Santucci was such a good actor.
I remember him from his excellent work on Crime Story.
The guy had a natural talent given his past, no acting lessons teach the kind of performances he gave here and in Crime Story. Michael Mann really has a knack for finding these type of people.
@@goreds551 100%, you just can’t teach that and because of his real life crime past he brought an authenticity into scenes like this.
If only there was this much honesty.
Castillo is the man yo
This what happens when you get on Castillo's bad side!!!!
That guy is actually a criminal that is talking to castillo Michael Mann used him in the movie thief 😂
That's why he plays a criminal in here so well
John Santucci was arrested again in the 1990s and served time. RIP.
There were a lot of jailbirds and reprobates on this show.
There was some interplay around this time between Crime Story (Dennis Farina and John Santucci) and Miami Vice....
Castillo was so interesting. He’s like a mystery guy that intrigued me.
nEVER FORGOT THIS SCENE ALL THESE YEARS POWERFUL
" ....I stucking to you. "
Castillo's hand in one pocket choke out😮😅😅
Guy looks at Crockett like he could have him whacked at any time.
Dude was CIA, he absolutely could have.
Think Castillo was DEA agent in Asia if I was correct he did work with the CIA but had not much love for them considering his past with them
@@Wenchework Castillo was DEA, the other guy was CIA.
character castillo was great....
Its obvious the writers were inspired by Olmos' performance to give Castillo the coolest backstory ever!
Lieutenant casteel just became the undertaker here
Good script, good actor playing Menton.
Hey Pauly from Crime Story
The stoic guy and the absolutely despicable guy. Great acting.
3:04 the man is staring at the camera LOL

Between this and the original Hawaii Five-0 is got the best Police shows on television, except of course Police story😊
Didn’t even take is other hand of pocket.
I guess it makes sense that we should've had some real estate in that part of the world, with the current situation
Castillo was one of those characters you really did not want to push over the edge.
You knew this was serious if it rattled him this much. The man was a stone.
I thought the only time Castillo smiled was when he met Gretsky.
Golden triangle !!!!
Castillo chokes him singlehandedly while keeping his other hand in his pants pocket 😎

Phillip Michael Thomas was in a movie called "El Hombre de Los Hongos". Roughly translates to the man of the mushrooms.
100 %
James Caan my bad on spelling
Castillo was the Miami Vice Commanding officer. You should know that.
American Badass
Actor John Santucci was a former thief in real life before MV
The origin of CASTILLO
I want to point something out here John santucci really shine Dale Minton the other two characters that he played in Miami vice not much like dale
