what kinds of RPMs can a stock LS1 bottom end handle? i'm getting one ready for a Autocross car and often times we will bounce off the revve limiter for 2-3 seconds during our runs. i also plan on using a Torqy Comp 265Hr cam as well as mid-range power is very important for Autocross cars
@@richardholdener1727 realistically with my gearing, it would only need to revve to 6500prm. but most of the course would be between 3500rpm-5000rpm. or would a bigger cam be worth it?
I know this video is getting old, but do you need 5.7 specific cams for a 5.7 or can you go 5.3 or 6.0? Options seem to be fairly limited here in Australia.
Richard, what engine would you rather build and race. A Built sbf 347 or ls1? There’s a big argument and I’d like to know since I’ve watched all your videos on them
The trade off is worth it if you're most interested in road racing and high rpm power for drag racing. I think its interesting to see cam only cars running 11s with a good suspension and converter, and ET is very similar w/ properly tuned stg 1.5-2 (22X duration) or a 23X/24X. So the peak power isnt nearly as important as the avg tq/hp in your launch to shift (racing) rpm range. I was going to increase from a 235/242 112lsa, mainly for more overlap(tighter lsa) and to get up to .650ish lift, but I'll be fabbing hot/cold side, adding a turbo from VSR or Sloppy, and then I'll prob want less cam in the 383.
@@richardholdener1727 Its a 383 LT1, so the JE pistons are relieved and I know people run much bigger stuff. Mines been together for years, I wanted to take my stock pcm to its 7k limit with a cam change but decided I'll just do it with one of VSRs bigger turbos.. I commented and posted a link to my freshly rebuilt ls1 idling. For some reason it got deleted? I built that motor because of your videos and seeing the power potential of my engine.

So in the USA this motor came in the camaros and the firebirds, the corvette, the impala got a v8 at some point in the last 20 years, as did the cobalt, and then we've got the northstar cadillacs, not to mention all the Lincolns that came with ford v8s, or the literal millions of crown Victoria's/grand marqs/town cars. Hey Richard, I have a question; have you ever put a 5.7 (350) buick engine to the test? They are starting to get recognition and nobody really has put one to the dyno. Maybe you could try this one out?
No probably not. GM saw fit to move away from cathedral ports for a reason. LS3 rectangular ports are "copies" of bbc heads which out flow, make more power through out the power band & vast efficiency.
rec port ls heads are not copies of BBC heads-the 706 head add some low speed torque, but be way down on power compared to ls3 heads (I tested that on an LY6)

i'm getting one ready for a Autocross car and often times we will bounce off the revve limiter for 2-3 seconds during our runs.
i also plan on using a Torqy Comp 265Hr cam as well as mid-range power is very important for Autocross cars
you won't make power at high rpm with that cam
@@richardholdener1727 realistically with my gearing, it would only need to revve to 6500prm. but most of the course would be between 3500rpm-5000rpm.
or would a bigger cam be worth it?
I know this video is getting old, but do you need 5.7 specific cams for a 5.7 or can you go 5.3 or 6.0? Options seem to be fairly limited here in Australia.
the cams work on all displacements
Richard, what engine would you rather build and race. A Built sbf 347 or ls1? There’s a big argument and I’d like to know since I’ve watched all your videos on them
If I was forced to use a stock 5.0L block, then some type of iron ls based motor (or alum 5.3l)
Best channel ever!
I was going to increase from a 235/242 112lsa, mainly for more overlap(tighter lsa) and to get up to .650ish lift, but I'll be fabbing hot/cold side, adding a turbo from VSR or Sloppy, and then I'll prob want less cam in the 383.
check p-v with a 235 cam
@@richardholdener1727 Its a 383 LT1, so the JE pistons are relieved and I know people run much bigger stuff. Mines been together for years, I wanted to take my stock pcm to its 7k limit with a cam change but decided I'll just do it with one of VSRs bigger turbos.. I'm saving for the hot side(no bolt on LT fbody parts), black magic clutch to replace my twin disc, and faceplating/building my trans for the power.
Where can I get a set of LS1 RHS heads. RHS doesn't supply them any more...
the early ones were done by Mast
@@richardholdener1727 Jesus Crisco! They're $1500 for a single head. $3k for cylinder heads damn is there a cheaper option?
@@ryryy1980this is why people swap in 6.0s and use LS3 heads and intake.
I commented and posted a link to my freshly rebuilt ls1 idling. For some reason it got deleted?
I built that motor because of your videos and seeing the power potential of my engine.

What size n brand was the tb on the eldelbrock
When boosted are these comparable to the gen 3 5.3s for strength? I get the blocks themselves are not AS strong.
Rods and pistons don’t seem to be as stout. Most people usually don’t push past the ~600whp mark especially with stock ring gap
Thanks Richard 😊
I was wondering what would happen if you ran a single turbo on an ls without a y pipe? One bank of cylinders goes to the exhaust as normal and one bank powers a turbo.
yes on a bbc
Great video!! Can you please do an updated best HCI for the 5.7? 🤞🤘
what do you mean by "BEST"

Looking to get approximately 350 to 400 hp , but on a budget . I have a 5.7 and a 4.8 . Both vortecs and want power . It's going in 03 siverado 4 door 4x4. Any ideas what you would do starting out for around $1000 then go from there.
Finally but I'm not from Australia🤗
WORKS THE SAME ON EVERY CONTINENT
@@richardholdener1727 IT DOES? You just blew my mind lol. I have an ls1 so I'm just happy to see some ls1 numbers.

See out American vans have 6.0 and 4.8s. My own personal truck is powered by an 07 express van lq4. That said don't the aussies have rb30's in the wreckers?
Lol no days of rb30s in wreckers are long gone. $500 gets you a block with matching crank and girdle these days if you're lucky.
RB30's were sold new in Australia from 1986 to 1990 so they're long gone from the junk yards

they work well
Thanks bro! For your help. What gaskets do you recommend?
@@B2flo77gaskets depend on your desired compression ratio. It's best you go to someone who knows what they're doing.
will you be tuning any normal car engine? Or you only do bus and truck and locomotive engines?
So in the USA this motor came in the camaros and the firebirds, the corvette, the impala got a v8 at some point in the last 20 years, as did the cobalt, and then we've got the northstar cadillacs, not to mention all the Lincolns that came with ford v8s, or the literal millions of crown Victoria's/grand marqs/town cars. I don't think you can get more normal than an impala or a crown vic.
@@Prestiged_peck and rest of the world (except maybe Australia) is making fun of that. You take an engine from a lorry and put that in a car.
isn't this a normal car engine
@@rimka11 Let them make fun. Do you care what stupid people think?
Half of that displacement would be considered a big engine in Europe, and in Asia you can make like four normal engines from one American V8 :D

And US.
Hey Richard, I have a question; have you ever put a 5.7 (350) buick engine to the test? They are starting to get recognition and nobody really has put one to the dyno. Maybe you could try this one out?
not yet
Buick small block? I don't think there is a lot of performance parts available for those. Most Buick stuff is either 455 or V6.
Richard!!! I've been dying to ask you this, what would the 706 heads do on a Ls3 or the 6.2 truck engine, would it be beneficial 🤷

It has long tube headers, ORY, LS6 intake, stock 241's.
I have an old MTI C1 "Hammer" cam (single pattern 222° / .566", 112°) that was never installed.
Would like to do a budget factory head swap too.
Between stock 799/243 heads, and 706 w/ the valves unshrouded, which do you think will perform best for all around street driving?
Stay with the stock heads. The bigger valves flow more than the small valve 706 heads.
243 heads and get them ported. I picked up 80hp with a BTR stage 3 cam I was running before the swap. Also, It runs out to 7200rpm now with the double coil springs I put in it before the it starts falling over.
the 241 makes less power than the 706
Right on
Ls1 will always make more power then a 4.8 or 5.3 with the same mods it will even out perform a 6.0 unless it’s a lq9 good luck finding one of those
it makes less than a mod 6.0L
