    Lathrix, you do realise you can right click the underside propellers and select an option to turn of their particle effects? That would make them look better from the underside, and would reduce lag significantly.

    The reason the rail launchers are more expensive than the regular launchers is because they act as a gantry and launcher at the same time. They hold missile modules on its own making it more space efficient but removing the ability to add launchers.

    Oh, a tankiness trick that I think might have come out after your break... certain detection systems can see through portholes, which are full structural blocks tucked away in the decorative section. Detection protected by stacked armor is /lovely/. I think it was everything other than radar and sonar? Can't really check right now.
    and one that blew my mind due to how long i'd missed this: one or two of the systems that i was absolutely certain didn't work underwater actually work just fine (laser tracker, if i remember right, but i think something else too?)
    As somebody who truly /hates/ my ships going blind, discovering those two things absolutely made my month. I really do love how much there is to this game :)

    Lathrix, please, PLEASE, let us see how you do armor. I know that it could be a boring video, but you could maybe upload it as an extra one, just recording while you build silently. I NEED to see how you make ships that sturdy and spacious while keeping them somewhat small.

      @@sphygo already made a research and there are some generic videos that tells you how stacked, spaced and alternated armor works, but those are concepts I already know. I just want to know how he does armor, i don't know if you have played Ftd but it's incredibly difficult to make a ship that's slick and sturdy as the ones lathrix makes. I always run out of space for weapons or make mine too bulky and expensive and I can't get how to do interiors in a good, organized way like he does (300 hours in, still learning but I'm not a beginner)

    Hello Lath, I'm a viewer of about 6 years now ever since you first started your From the depths lets plays back in 2014. I just wanted to thank you for all of the wit and entertainment that you've provided throughout the years. In 2014 I had a surgery (nothing dangerous really, just a spinal fusion) and was bedridden for about six months. During that time I discovered your channel and probably watched numerous days worth of your videos. It really helped me pass the time while I was stuck recuperating and I'm so glad that you've found joy in this game after so long! You are my go to guy for From The Depths and many other series! Thank you so much for putting a stupid smile on that 14 year old's face whenever something mucked up your plans in game and thank you so much for continuing to put a smile on my face even now as I approach my 21st!

      they are useful as i use armor peircing heads for extra speed without the extra barrel cooldown time of a gunpowder casing

    You could change the torpedo system with a radar system of some sort, to fully embody the idea of it being a support ship.

    For this kind of cannon, you can use a low powered pure railgun without any gunpowder or rail casings on the shell. Which removes all cooldown. Brrrrrt as long as you have the clips filled. Cheaper shells ammo-wise too.

    Something I found really early. If you have a problem matching cooling rate to your auto loaders just make the shell railgun casing only and don't use gunpowder. don't have to worry about cooling and only have to add as many belt fed auto loaders as possible. built one that reached 1000 rpm easy.

    You say it looks weird, but part of why I like your FtD videos so much is that your craft actually look like yours, rather than something standardized.
    Oh, and the rail launchers are more expensive because they also act as the first gantry, giving you missile modules on the launcher itself unlike the normal launchers.

    Alpha strikes in this game miss so often even if you set the required accuracy of the weapon to 0.1 degrees because the detection averages enemy bearings and speed over time, so when vehicles first spawn in the ai detects them as not moving but before the shells manage to reach the target the ship started moving and is long gone. This is why I gravitate more towards rail guns and lasers, or at the very least higher fire rate advanced cannons. rarely use crams because the alpha strike almost always misses and you could lose 10% hp before you get another volley. Could be fixed easily if the devs added an option for an initial firing delay for weapons which only applies if the target just spawned in rather than say just putting a hard 1-2s firing delay which cripples overall fire rate.

      Have you tried keeping the ai for your main guns off by default or holding fire atleast, and then turning it back on when the enemy gets up to speed?

    I don't see how anyone can play From the Depths without becoming sleep deprived.
    I just got done playing FtD for 20+ hours, spending most of my time finally learning how to use the PiD block, cuz I wanted to make a fancy hover copter.
    It turned out amazing. It is so stable, it just floats there, as if it's on rails, just floating along, like there's no such things as physics or aerodynamics. I am quite pleased.

    You should make some sort of fast flyer that detaches from a ship and flys to an enemy ship and fires a lot of close range torpedos or missiles that have a lot of damage. Also can't wait for the campaign to start!

    Now after watching the video, you could replace the HE heads with squash heads to keep it relevant against the other factions.

    A great way to build an armed freighter is to build the entire freighter, then slap the guns on. It would look exactly like it sounds: a ship to be mainly a freighter but has some ability to defend itself. The idea that it is a combat ship that seconds as a freighter is also a good idea. One way to do it is to pretend it was a decommissioned battleship and you could have a reason for its lack of weapons. The good thing about your ship's look is that it doesn't look sleek, but it looks like a common freighter if you were a citizen of the Lathrixian Legion.

    You have to armour the neck of the turret, as explosions can travel through blocks to kill sub-objects, when they would normally not penetrate beyond the first layer if the turret was part of the main object.

    Lath to hide your turning propellers you can use a 3x3 metal duct this will also look really good since you hide them as well.

    Remember that fuzes are smaller than regular components, on a 500mm shell if you add a base bleeder and a fuze you can add an extra component to the shell due to the low length of fuzes and base bleeders,

    That has to be the derpiest frigate I've ever seen, but it seems to work pretty well.
    Some form of ECM like flares or radar / sonar decoys might make it even tankier vs missiles, or maybe a small CWIS gun / SAM / AA gun superfiring over the forward autocannon.

    Question, how did you make those burst railgun from the adventure mode? I am trying to replicate them.

      Railguns using no gunpowder do not trigger the barrel cooldown and are only effected by the autoloader limitations. Set that to max firerate and all the autoloaders will load and fire a shell in near instant succession and cause a burst of shots, followed by them all cooling down.

      Additionally have enough rail energy storage to last an entire burst, so you don't have to wait for rail charge either. These can be very effective for APS bombers (although you'll need to use turrets since rails and 3m omnimantlets can't really coexist.)

    30:00 -ish. I think a better test would be to hold fire until the enemy lands the first hit on you, especially since The Plunderer always fire too soon before it has aimed correctly.
    Because it's not a good test if the enemy are crippled long before they have aimed at you.

    At the end, when you talk about not wanting to out ships up against other larger ships, doing an equal cost battle could still be interesting.

    Random idea for spaced armor for large ships. Have spaced layer armor subobject. And stick compact repair things on it, so the ships inner layer spaced armor repairs outer armor. Just a little bit cheesy :)

    I don't know why I thought of this, but here it is... a ship designed like one of the crab fishing ships on "Deadliest Catch" that harpoons targets and reels them in to be torn up by short range guns or something. Something about your description of this design as "short/wide" triggered that.

    lathrix i will recomend you making a utility drone - drone that main purpose is having repair/resources/detection so you dont really need to place it to the drones. of course you can do it, but that gonna make them less combat oreintated and more kinda universal, what you are avoiding in your series

Its a space mmo focused heavily on shipbuilding, its building system is incridebly in-depth and well made even thoug its still in closed alpha.     I've got an idea for the lore of the campaign: The ships are toy boats, that got accidentally magnified to life-size and now want to take over the world. At least this ship looks kind of like a toy.

    Make super heavy ship with 3 cannons from ur anti ship boat but bigger and 20 torpedos from the side and 5 cruise missles(if not then loads of normal missles)

    If the turret neck on the turrets is only one wide, explosives can hit the turret then "worm" their way to the turret neck and break it.
    Essentially bypassing the armor on the turret entirely.
    Especially notable on small missiles due to how they seem to warp small distances after hitting the target

      The neck after the deck is armoured in two places to help prevent this, it is also armoured within the cap itself. Still a weak point but I do try and avoid it a little, especially before it gets to the main turret body!

    For a logistic ship she packs a hell of a punch, after all the Plunderers aren't exactly the weakest ship the DWG has in their arsenal (coupled by the fact this ship will have your drone boats as escorts at any given time)

    A shell type that I absolutely adore for APS is HESH-HEAT-Frag, purely because of the absolute mishmash of damage types it does, and it still manages to be surprisingly effective

    i got a silly idea
    what if, you start designing your ships inside the Campaign?
    like adventure mode but different
    and with some rules like:
    you can only port the designs you have so far
    you can design a starting fortress in the sandbox mode
    but every other ship have to be designed in the campaign live, but only the first ship prototypes, once you design one ship, you can spawn copies of it normally

    The reason the rail launchers are more expensive is because it counts as a launcher and also a single gantry. Normal launchers don’t count as a gantry as well. Small rails and normal are the same price because they both count as a launcher as a gantry

    Is it just me or does this ship remind you of his adventure mode Ep.1 ship 😂 he's clearly got a style for cheap ships. (I don't think you'll see this but) how are you doing lath? We know you had a rough time so how are you holding up with all this quarantine stuff?     It might just be me but I just can’t seem to make stable ships and I can’t find any guides. I just get so impressed whenever I watch your videos and the ships aren’t rocking all over the place.

      Some advice: Try to put your centre of mass (the blue text saying "Mass") as central and as low as possible (a lead keel can help if you have bouyancy to spare). Failing that, spreading your weight over a larger area can help (wider hulls or pontoons on the sides), and as a last resort you can use a PID responding to roll and some propellors on the left/right of the ship's underside. Hope some of that was helpful.

    Could you make a ship building video, it would be nice to see how you build the hull and armour them up. You normally skip this in your videos, but it would be helpful for those of us who are bad at armouring and design.

    Dont know if you have ever considered it, but I think it would be great if you recorded the whole building process of a ship and just uploaded it as a timelapse. I would understand if you don't because of the time it would take but it would be cool. Also, max gauge aps with big aphe would look magnificent to see a ship explode from inside.

    HEAT at low gauges is really good. The same spammy small gauge guns might still be effective that way against other factions with low HEAT resistance.

    Anybody else think that the front of the larger ship looks like it was inspired by The Flying Dutchman from Pirates of the Carribean?
    It really does look like a futuristic jaw-like shape, it would be really cool if lathrix made this thing's front look like a an evil face.

    Hey lathrix, couple questions:
    1. Do you have a planned theme for this campaign? For the last one you had the corrupted/orc-ish vehicle with lots of Khorn.
    2. If you do go with a certain theme, if I were to drop a blueprint design would you downgrade and convert it into that theme?
    I’m just curious and hyped for this campaign, and this will be the first campaign I’m around for.

    How about a point defense ship for missile and munition protection. It could either be build to draw fire and tank/block loads of damage, or quickly deploy interceptors to protect friendly ships and counter shells with anti-munition systems. I don’t have ftd so idk if it’s possible to make long range munition defense lasers, but if possible, I’d love to see it.

      It would be an expensive ship for how little of range it could cover for defense.Interceptors are usually much better close range so it wouldn't work very well. More efficient to defend each ship individually, especially defending from missiles since you can fit small missile interceptors on any sized craft.

    this ship does look good, the wierdness is basically just that it looks like you slapped turrets on a civilian cargo vessel, which is kinda the point.
