I sang this in an international superiors only four part mens choir the family singers out of Hancock N.Y. and placed second in 2003. one of the most spiritual moments of my life. We almost died when they announced we placed.
Frank bianchi directed my regional chorus last year and he’s honestly the best director that I’ve ever had. So genuinely kind and smart, he made our concert sound so amazing
Brings back good memories of Ball State University. I sang this with the Statesmen, a Tenor 1 myself. But I gotta say, the bass section was totally On Point!
I've known this song for a long time. We've learned it in our English class(in non-English speaking country, obviously). We've never been taught about the story behind it. Here's the story. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bonnie_Banks_o%27_Loch_Lomond The melody sounds sad but it's nothing compared to the lyrics(and the story behind it).
Concert halls and venues should have ejection mechanisms installed in their chairs: 1st time someone coughs, a yellow light comes off; 2nd time, spectator flies off through the roof so they can continue to cough on Mars.
A MOST TOUCHING PERFORMANCE. I DID NOT KNOW THAT IT WAS A CLASSIC PIECE BY RALPH VAUGHN WILLIAMS. I AM NOT ASHAMED TO THAT I GREW UP WITH THE BENNY GOODMAN / MARTHA TILTON VERSION THEREOF. A GREAT SWING BAND PLAYING THIS PIECE WILL TOUCH YOU. CLASSICAL COMPOSERS WROTE PIECES FOR GOODMAN. BELA BARTOK WAS ONE OF THEM.
This Song is about a good fellow dying..and the composer goes like "dai dap" at the end. Didn't understand the meaning of the lyrics, hm? Though nice choir:-)
i always felt it was his spirit, released from the bonds of his human body, quickly flying back to his home of scotland along the low road, and the elation of being able to return, even if he doesn't get to truly "meet" with his true love again
I️ always thought he was talking about talking about a women he loved and they wanted to keep it a secret. “I’ll take the high road and you’ll take the low road” tell them to go different ways.
The end is supposed to be a solemn march... the song is about a brother sending his dead brother back to Scotland after a war battle. It’s a pride march. Not a dance party 🤦🏻♀️
sang this with 300 of the best singers in New England. I almost died.
+Miles Main dying of pure joy, what a way to go.
do you have a video? I'd llove to hear it.
@Liam Stevens It's dai not die.

What kind of Choir are you in?
Bass 2 here! Me and my choir are singing this in 2 days and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ll be singing the beginning solo. Can’t wait!
I'm curious, what key? Do you drop it an octave to be in the "meat" of your voice, keep the octave, or go for a key somewhere in the middle?
Flyingferrets5 I sing it in the original key of E flat major, or that’s the key of the version we sung.
bass 2 here, i’m back 7 years since i last performed this piece because it made such a lasting impact on me
I'll never forget seeing this live that night. Truly unforgettable.

The tenor 1s made this performance
They so often do. Truly an underappreciated part.
@@nathanpunt1706 No, underappreciated is the bass section. The tenors are always getting the praise.
As they always do!
Brings back good memories of Ball State University. I sang this with the Statesmen, a Tenor 1 myself. But I gotta say, the bass section was totally On Point!

BandTuxXedo hehe yeah, pretty bad version imo
To me, that part always sounded like "Jedi die," at least in other versions. What can I say? I'm a Star Wars fan.
the composer? the person who writes it?

Is there a doc in the audience? Get these people some medicine!
Except for those with their face perpetually focused in their music, a very fine performance.

It also talks about him never seeing his love ever again...
