    I Love This Song!
It was the first song my Scottish Grandfather played for me on the pipes when I was a wee lassie.
I knew it was about two soldiers, but as a little girl, I pictured a young lad and his lassie
    being separated by their families.
I probably got that notion from my English Grandmother who would read Shakespeare to me,
and I always somehow connected it to Romeo and Juliet.

My son, Scott, was there just last month for the first time. His mother, English, and I, American, met near Loch Lomond some 32 years ago, hence, our son's name.

Several years ago, I was fortunate to visit Scotland, and Loch Lomond one of the places I went to. I had a boat ride on the loch and fish and chips at a restaurant on the shore. It's a beautiful place, and I'd love to visit it again.

    I so enjoy your videos.
Scotland has always been a place I’ve wanted to go see. After Graeme pointed me in the direction of your channel, it has become more so.
Maybe you could make a pdf map of places you’ve talked about? I could then use it as a guide book.
Better yet, if you had an interactive map/app with map and locations, then if you clicked on a location it’d take you to a video you’ve produced on said locality.

I was born and raised in Loch Lomond, but the one in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Gaelic was our original language and we loved our Scottish heritage. Our family landed in NS while fleeing from one of Scotland’s battles, I’m not sure which one, but that was the tale my grandmother told me of how my Loch Lomond got its name. This song still rings proudly with us, as does our beloved Scottish bond.

Our guide told us: During war between England and Scotland, the English captured some Scottish prisoners. They were paired between brothers, cousins, in-laws, so on. They were told that one will be executed and one will be set free to go home. The song is sung by the one who decided to be executed. I simply cried.

The song has always been to me, about two lovers leavening the lake, moving away, and it's a clever play on words, because the singer, while he loves his lover, his true love is the lake, which he will never see again.

I came across the song due to this other famous Lomond and I loved it. So sad and beautiful. I have my favorite interpretation I listened to today and that's probably why yt have just recommended this video to me.
This other Lomond - actor Britt Lomond was proud of the country of his ancestors and around shooting Zorro TV series expressed his wish to visit it someday. I wonder if he made his wish come true, he had a long life so he probably managed. That's one of things I wanted to read about in his memoirs, but he was so focused on writing about others he forgot to write more about himself. Maybe that was his Scottish humbleness. Too bad. I enjoyed the video. The lake is beautiful I wish to visit it one day and listen to the song on its bonnie banks. Next life maybe

My understanding was always, in a simple format.... no matter what, I'll die before you and take the "low lands" (I'm dead and will be buried in scotland) and you'll live on in the "Highlands" (compared to me, underground) and I'll meet you here (as in, come home to scotland and die here, and we'll be reunited)... am I the only one that has taken this message?
