      Bro you need to put a roof mounted tent on that unused space over the cab

  • @MsPrincesspaulina
    @MsPrincesspaulina 5 ปีที่แล้ว +164

    Your wasted space on top of the cab roof might be a place to mount a solar panel. That's what I'd do with it.
    You mention the rust on your truck. I have an 03 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton similar to your F-150. Last Saturday the tailgate hinges rusted out on it so I no longer have a tailgate on my truck. Point being, do whatever you can now to slow or halt the rust on your truck. I'm no auto body man so I can't tell you. Keep the underside washed is all I can suggest. Keep your tailgate hinges cleaned and lubed.
    You've got the rig pretty well put together and thought out.
    Last we saw you, you were muskie fishing Lake of The Woods. Now you're in the Nevada desert. You sure get around. Good for you.

      You can spray Wd-40 on light rust or areas you think could rust in the future. There are also shops that will still spray your underbody with used motor oil, this is quite effective although it sounds crude. In general the only kind of rust you really need to worry about is from road salt. If you have to drive in the salt, clean your car afterwards very well. And don't let the salt sit on it for more than a few days. Be sure to clean the undercarriage as best you can, don't just spray the outside.

    Well packed but waaaayyy to-many shoes & clothes, heads up, instead of TP rolls use baby wipes for toilet paper, big pack = 100 sheets, moisturized, work great, saves mucho space. Cut dish washing way down by throwing everything away but a camp cooking set that nests, 2- Stainless steel coffee cups with lids, get a pressure cooker & Dutch oven, (Teflon) use paper towels & alcohol spray bottle to wash them, (no water & soap , my most hated chore was/is washing dishes, a big time waster & boring) make sure all cooking vessel are teflon, they clean up very well & very quickly, no water or time wasted. Your 2 pullout drawers are being under utilized by wasting a lot of space, with again, too many clothes, lol, I get 90% of my possession in those 2 drawers, pairing down & organizing will get you lean & more usable space, take the time to think of a place for every item, keep them there ( a place for everything & everything in it place, is a good rule of thumb) make 6 meals that you like & are simple & easy to make , mix them with no cook, no prep fruit & /or vege’s or no need to be fridged ( packaged tuna= no cook, eggs last a week unfridged) , eat raw, fresh every day, cuts down on prep & cooking. Shalom!

    I think those interlocking foam gym mats would have been a better option than the turf. I figure they can serve several functions in addition to a surface cover. The foam mats could offer some extra insulation for the cold, extra cushion for comfort, and you can also use them as seating on the ground if your sitting outside. There are probably several more things things the mats could do, but I like the idea of versatility in the items that I carry. Space is limited so make sure your everything in your kit does more than one thing.

    An idea for your trash solution is this thing called a "trasharoo." Look it up on amazon. Its basically a giant trash bag that you can wrap around your tailgate and put trash in. Its marketed to be wrapped around spare tires on jeeps and things but I've seen plenty of people put them on their tailgates and i even have one on the hatch of my tahoe. They're very useful for camping and keeping trash out of your vehicle.

    For the extra space, rain water collection system. Would be great if you know it is going to rain, make use of all that water. Or, gun rack, get yourself a trusty shotgun or hunting rifle it you can, never know when it will be useful.

    Mav. The space on the back you could mount a pelican box. They are water tight and they have a lock and you can add padlocks. Store dry goods and clothes to free up space. I took the back seat out if my Jeep and did that with one that was issued to me in the Army.

  • @massboy11

    You could add a nice 6ft awning on the side of the cap that's bare. Fairly cheap on Ebay depending on which you choose.....and 15 minute installation. Great for rainy days, or to hide from the sun. or cook out of the weather.

    Solar Panels and work on that rusted pane. You could get that Raptor bed liner spray from Amazon to spray under your truck and lower quarter panels. A good DIY and affordable after you repair that rust and hole. Do it soon before it gets worse. I lived in Chicago years ago and the winter along with that road salt eat up any unprotected metal.

    Some others have mentioned throwing solar panels on top which is a great idea, you could probably get 2 up there.
    Why not think about extending your shower line to 12' as it looks like you've got at least 2' up front & maybe even add another; 24 gallons would be a great set up & allow to even rinse off the back of the truck when you're all dusted up & want to cook.

    • @CrazyQuady
      @CrazyQuady 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That'd be 200lbs of water in the roof. I wouldnt want to drive around with that much weight up that high and I'm guessing the topper isn't even rated to carry that much.

    Get two 30 volt 60 panel that are rated 230 watt but put out about 180 watts each. They are 3.5'x5.5' which would make a square 5.5'x7' just the right size to cover the cap. Wire them in series and mppt to batteries. Go to a welding shop and get them to put two battery shelves connected to the main frame, there is a lot of wasted space under that truck bed and this would keep the weight of the four batteries low. Think of flooded 6 volt golf cart so it would be 12 volts on each size wired in parallel and series. Trojan T105 is rated 225 wh so you would have 450 wh which is overkill but batteries should be same brand and age so they are balanced and using just 20% of capacity is better than using 80%. You also have back up for the few cloudy days. So much power you could get a $100 32" LED TV that uses about 30 watts and be able to watch all the porn you want or maybe just the world going to hell in a hand bag. 4 batteries $170 each with core charge 2 panels used should be cheap but match them $100 each. MPPT controller $40. You have everything else. Good luck to you.

    I hope you also have at least one spare tire, a hydraulic jack and a tire plug kit. The tire plug kit has saved my bacon on more than one occasion. That forward space on the roof would be a great spot for a second tire. Great videos and safe travels!

    Hey Mav, I have pretty close to the same buildout in my truck and one issue I ran into was my water jug. It was identical to yours but one day heading into the mountains for some camping, it exploded! Then I had 7 gallons of water making a pond in the back floorboard of my truck. Luckily it was summer and it dried quick, but definitely something for you to watch out for!

    MavI live in a salt country and what we do to protect our vehicles underneath and stop the rusting is we take and use bar chain oil that you use in a chainsaw and spray the undercarriage and each fall will spray it all down and that stops the rust from Foreman and after you do it for a bit it starts building up a layer so the salt can't get into anything and it it also gets into all the nooks and crannies and and it just stays there it doesn't drip off and it's a cheap way of you know keeping it from rusting now that piece that's rusted out that is a I'm trying to think the name it's called a rear cap and it doesn't take a whole lot to put a new one on you can order them from RockAuto and if you can find somebody that has a welder even a cheap welder you can take and replace that yourself just a thought

    Im sure you have fixed it by now....but if not check your roof brake light and see if it is letting water in to rust the cab corners. This is a problem with all trucks. and many years not just fords.

    Great video Mav. I'm going to be retiring soon and I want to do something like you're doing now. I will pull a trailer behind it to hold my Pelican Bass Raider. Getting a lot of great ideas from you. Thanks! Keep the videos coming. You're awesome!

    I have an ‘05 Ford F-150 king ranch 4wd. Have had nothing but trouble with it. Has 5.4 triton which I’ve read a lot of bad reviews on, motor replaced at 120k, and still having issues. Not a happy Ford owner, will be my last Ford for sure.

    I lived out of my mustang for 3 months with three cats during the beginning of the year. It was interesting to say the least. Always had dry and canned food gallon or two of water. And would fish if I didn't wanna buy any meat mainly chicken sometimes beef or eat out. Pretty much everything you're doing out of the f-150. Either I'd stealth camp or go to actual camp sites. Should of documented it but didn't even think about it at the time. I may do it again soon just minus bring my cats, lol

    Solar panels on the roof. Someone beat me to it but I'm sure it would be a great help to your battery charging situation. Liking your videos a lot.
