My hope is that with this championship Tatum will feel less pressure in the playoffs going forward and having a bigger impact on the game. Credit to him though for playing within the game and not forcing things that weren’t there.

I think that's actually pretty fair. He also went through a pretty disastrous shooting slump through the entire playoffs which given the caliber of player he is, you'd figure will be better next time around.

@@HoopsHourIt's very encouraging that despite his shooting slump, he refused to hang his head, and he just worked harder at driving the lane, rebounding, dishing and playing D. Tatum showed me a lot of maturity this series, along with JB, of course. So proud of these guys. 🍀🍀

All NBA first team doesn't automatically mean Top 5 talent... some years they line up, some years they don't. DeAndre Jordan was First Team All-NBA in 2016 and I don't even think DeAndre Jordan would say he was Top 5.

Jaylen is also much better than you gave him credit for. I don’t care to rate either as a 1 or 2 option, with their growth we have 2 no 1 options as JB took over many times at clutch time in this playoff run. He’s easily a top 10 all NBA player and on another team could easily be putting up 28-30 ppg. He should have been first team defensive too!!

It was the Jrue Holiday trade that allowed them to thrive and dominate every team in the league. That trade will go down in Boston sports history as one of the greatest trades of all time. He was the missing piece the team was missing for years, and there is no other player in the entire league that would have been a better fit. Brad Steven’s nailed it, and if paid off with championship dividends

@@Andy_Babb When you look at it through the "2-way player" lens, it seems to make a lot of sense, at least to me. No one would argue a healthy Kawhi Leonard is an elite defender, possibly the best in the league, and also a clutch & consistent shot-maker. Starting in 2022 I really started to see the comps between the two of them. Jaylen is not afraid to take big shots, and he makes a high percentage of them. Physically, he's imposing, and a tenacious defender like Leonard....I really believe at this point Jaylen is a top-5 guy when it comes to all-purpose Defense. Leonard has better handles, for sure, but he's also injured way more, so for my money: Jaylen is now the new Kawhi. 🍀😎🍀 But in Celtic Green!

Your call on JB is way off, because of his imposing defense and 2 way ability, I have him top 5 all NBA, and top 10 at worst. On a team with less talent, he could easily avg 28-30 a game. He’s the best in game dunker in the league and most ferocious wing defender in the league. The best in those 2 categories.

Some of the very issues addressed are the exact reasons for embracing these players. Promise and self improvement, other wise why not just select(evolutionarily) for raptors(the real ones not the team) and be done with it.

I get giving Tatum credit for playing up but he no where near the Celtics beat overall defender. It's between brown and jrue then white. He sit at 4. Put this in perspective he guarded lively and gafford for a combined 150 possessions and gave up 29 pts. He also guarded Luka and kyrie for a combined 77 possessions and gave up 35 pts. That's 227 possessions and 64 pts.
Meanwhile brown guarded Luka and kyrie for 191 possessions for a combined 26 pts and lively & gafford for 53 possessions and only gave up 8 pts. That's 244 possessions and 34 pts combined which is 30 less pts than who you called the overall best defender gave up. Also when Tatum was off the floor the defense rating improved 3 pts in the finals.
Another stat that will really blow your mind for the entirety of the finals brown only allowed 55 pts!!!!!!!!!! total from every Mavs player that played in the game.

That's super fair, and in-terms of on-ball defense I don't think Tatum is anything special from his teammates. His size and versatility can lend themselves to a greater overall defensive impact though and that's where I give/gave him the edge. But I definitely don't think it's by any significant margin and Brown defended out of his mind in the finals... thanks for the comment!
