Wanna know something truly heart breaking?
The song that plays during the credits is called in your hands.
Where ever gris goes, she will always be in her mothers hands

@santiagobarrero7066 all song names tie in with the story of the game. Especially gris pt 1 and 2. Watch a complete ost of the game and youll find some nice details in there.

we carry on in our forbears name, and inspite of them... we carry on theyre spirit and we impart our own into the next generations own spirit... so our human spirit lives forever. and we die with meaning....

Hits pretty hard tbh because you realise its her mother who was being tortured by the loss of Gris who passed unexpectedly. And she is finally able to accept her demise and sheds a tear for her daughter who then climbs one last time to obscurity - leaving the world of hurt behind. The statue is a metaphor for how the loss shattered her into pieces. The animals bare relevance to depression's relentless affliction. Like Nick Drake's "Black Eyed Dog" song before he committed suicide. Animals are black. And the refusal to let her baby girl go only brings her world crashing down. Change occurs during the loss of identity.

That’s a very interesting way to look at the game.
Me personally it was the other way around for who died.
That Gris lost her mother and this entire world was basically a dream she was having about her confronting her tumultuous feelings about her grief.
And her walking to the sky was her finally waking up from her long dream and accepting that while her mother is gone and she will always miss her, her mother’s love will always be with her.
That’s what I was thinking when she was kissing the statue. It was a farewell kiss to the past and her mother, and her ascension was her moving to the light of the future, however foggy it is, filled with hope that her mother lives on in her memories, even if they’re now bittersweetly colored.

First time I’ve seen someone else with this view of the story. Blew my mind (with even more ugly crying) when I saw it this way on my second play through.
Most view it as Gris dealing with the loss of her mother, which I think is how the story presents itself at first. However, it’s how it ends that I feel where a plot twist can be interpreted to reveal that it was actual Gris who had passed. Gris can be seen as a spirit deal with the trauma in synergy with her mother, or possibly a mental avatar the mother created to help her process her emotions. It is her mother at the end who breaks through the darkness with her singing response to Gris’s voice pulling her back together. The symbolism of the mother as a statue remaining on the ground in the healed multicolored world while Gris literally leaves towards a white light in the sky can appear as an intentional metaphor for passing on.
Regardless, the fact so many can make their own personal interpretations establishes the game as an interactive art experience like no other.

You’re the first other person who saw it the same way I did.
That Gris was the one who died, still tied down to the earth by the grieving of her mother and once she helped her mother through the grieving her mother was able to let her go so gris could ascend to the stars.

    • @1love4music4love1
      @1love4music4love1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think your view is very good... I also thought because the statue cries and gris kisses the statue saying: "it's ok mom".... then she leaves up the star way to ascend to the afterlife....
But yeah what was the creators intend?😅

They really get you with the one-two punch there at the end of this game. First, the ending is just heart-wrenchingly beautiful, and then the credit theme is a masterful, achingly-bittersweet rumination on grief.
Glad someone else was touched by this gem. It's been in my top five games since it came out, and it makes me so happy when it manages to move people like this.

I wonder what your other top 5 games are? But for me Gris ranks:
      #2 in best of 2018
      #14 in best of 2010's
#7 in best emotion moment of 2010's
I haven't ranked all time rankings yet but it would probably drop a few rankings.
This may not seem very good but i have played a lot of games.

@@purpleguy319 My "top 5" refers to the top 5 games I would recommend people play today if they wanted to get a sense of my tastes. Not necessarily the games that are my favorite of all time, because it's impossible for me to nail down what those would be. Most games that are my "favorite games" just sit on a nebulous, unranked, ever-growing list. I've played way, way too many games that I love to be able to rank them numerically without giving it some serious thought.
To answer your question -- In no particular order, my top 5 games that reflect my tastes today are:
Gris, Subnautica, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, Zelda OoT, and Morrowind.
Now you've got me curious about your top 5.

      #3 Risk of Rain 1 & 2
      #4 Starcraft 1 & 2
      #5 Othercide
#5 was so hard to pick because i could give 5 more for a top 10 recommendations, but these 5 are my best picks for what videogames have to offer. Story, Style, Gameplay, Element Cohesion, and Choice.

After getting overwhelmed by the ending of this game, I watched a bunch of other Gris ending reactions. Yours is what I was looking for, 'that was powerful' is all that really needed to be said. Appreciated the sincerity of hearing everything through the mic and having someone to share the emotions with. Thank you for making this video :)

I love any art that is made honestly, skillfully and with a dedication to what is being expressed and that includes things that are dark, violent, nihilistic or angry. That said, nothing moves me more than works of art that are kind. Some things I think were made specifically to help people. They're deliberate acts of kindness through creativity and they're so important. This is an example of that. Horrible things never make me cry. I just feel empty. What really moves me is when somebody does something out of love.

art that touchs the human soul is infitnitly meaningful becuase the people it touches will never forget it, they will carry its meaning to theyre children who will hold onto it becuase of theyre loyalty and love for theyre parents who cherished the original art... thus the art travels across generations. each holding theyre own meaning for it... so art is imortal... and yet ever changing as we each hold our own reason for cherishing it....

There are several ways to 'interpret' GRIS. The story itself, outside of what people say about it is rather ambiguous. It could be seen as a daughter who lost her mom or a mother who lost her daughter. Either way its about grief.
I played GRIS yesterday for the first time ever. I 100%'ed it and it only took me a few hours. Initially I just thought it was pretty and touching but not super special. There are games like it that do what GRIS did but better. There are games that have a similar message or story and tell it more clearly. There is no combat, you cant even fall off platforms. GRIS is in essence 'easy' or as some would describe it: boring. However... GRIS is special to ME.
As I went to bed last night after beating GRIS, it brought me back to how I used to be mute. My inhibitions and struggles... My own grief... I feel like... Even though it didnt take away everything, or anything really, a small weight has been lifted. As if someone told me something that I needed to hear (again).
