Gosh yes was such a sad realization, and I think also the girl is Gris's sister. Haven't cried as much in a game since the ori games. What a masterpiece
Is ithe ending the same as the beginning though? I thought that it was indeed Neva's mother who died at the beginning. And then it's Neva's turn. The cycle of death and birth begins again and again, like the seasons. Now it's Bruma's turn... and she will have the same destiny. That's my reading anyway. Edit : that was my reading. I watched the beginning of the playthrough again. And it's really quite clever, how Neva is seen in the trees' shades at first, making her fur appear grayer that it is, and when the sunlight makes her look white, the transition is super natural and you don't notice the change at all. That explains the ending credits illustrations, they show how Alba found and adopted Neva. I didn't get it.
It seems to me that the beginning and the end are not the same, since Neva was a white wolf at the very beginning, and at the end Bruma was a gray wolf, which means he is a boy (i think). And in the beginning they did not defeat the Queen, but in the end they were able to win thanks to Bruma and this time the cycle was broken. It's just a theory ;) Still a magnificent and beautiful game💜
For that theory to work, you'll have to omit that the tree was there by the time Alba woke up, at the beginning of the game, when it wasn't there before. Also the puppy was already gray in the intro. I truly think the game isn't like Gris; it doesn't really leave much room for interpretation. The intro was Alba's point of view, so the black thing was indeed killed, while she was unconscious. And the ending was the entirety of the events, or Bruma's point of view. I like this idea as that point of view thing also apply to us the player. At the beginning, we see a death, we feel bad, but we have no context, the intro didn't made me cry because I thought it was Neva's mother, I had no connection to mommy wolfy, so in a twisted way, I didn't care. Seeing the same scene again, understanding that I made a mistake by not caring, that Neva was the one dying all along, I cried for 10 minutes, all the tears I had in stock left my eyes. And now for my theory, I think it's a way for the game to tell is that the pain that come from loss matters, even when you're not the one losing someone. And when you get the point of view of the one losing that person, well suddenly you care a lot more, you even take the pain for yourself, you feel and live their pain. And that's beautiful !
another awesome video, Zalzar!
I loved how the ending was the beginning, it took me a while to get the hang of it! What a beautiful game. 🥺
The REALISATION - almost had the same experience as you... when winter ended, I realised and became VERY emotional.
What a masterpiece of a game. Was crying though out... really brutal at the end but amazing.
