    Why did no one think of this idea before! Getting all these different creators together it’s awesome! All the big names working together to make the hobby better. Hope to see more of these videos in the future. Instead of trying to hunt down ten different videos on one topic it’s condensed down into one. Great job Jason and John!

    Gotta go with the 40 gallon breeder. Cheap, plenty of stocking options, I can move one myself without popping a hernia, and it doesn't take up a ton of space. Of course, that 50 gallon low-boy might be worth changing my mind over. Made an audible "ooooooo" the first time I saw it.
    Great video! More of this!

    Loved this one, guys!! For those of us constrained by apartment living and/or questionable floors not necessarily being level, I love the 20-long. But after I'd gotten my 45 gallon (36Wx12Lx24H) I wished I'd gone for that 40 breeder instead - way more front-to-back space and not so tall that it's too hard to maintain! I see there are some channels I haven't yet subscribed to! Really enjoyed all the opinions and people. ❤🐟❤

    Silly responses from the experts. The best tank size is the roomiest one that houses your favorite type of fishes. For Nano keepers it will be smaller but for the monster fish keepers it has to be 100+ gallons. We saw that in their replies.

  • @dastarddizaster
    @dastarddizaster 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    One of the hardest questions to answer!
    Personally I own 8) 20L, 3) 33's, 1) 25, 3) 29's 2) 55's, 1) 75, a 125 and a dozen or so 10's.
    I agree that water volume makes for better tanks but I'd give the 4' tanks like 33's, 55's and 75's the best score depending on the stocking.
    For nice aquascapes and nano/small fish definitely a 33 if you have the space.
    As the size of stock and aquascape increases, it's easy to go up in height.
    Jason, I would love to have a 50 low as a "coffee table" tank.

    _Your swimming pool_ is the best fish tank size.
    Every other house here in Arizona has a swimming pool but not all of them are in use. I know a plethora of people who have converted their pools into an Aquaponics Farm with fish and everything. It is amazing what can be accomplished here in the Sonoran Desert.
    Then again, bigger is always going to be better when talking about fish tanks. I know this to be true because I specialize in Nano Tanks, and let me tell you, it is *not* an easy task! But I like a challenge and I think I have successfully set out to prove the community wrong (which I can safely say - mission accomplished).
    After all, the old adage rings true: _"There's no replacement for displacement."_ This can be applied to a myriad of applications whether they be car motors or fish tanks. In the case of the latter, there is a follow up adage: _"The solution for pollution is dilution."_
    Stay classy my friends.

    glad shallow tanks are getting some love. i'm five feet tall with t-rex arms so maintenance can be daunting in taller tanks because, depending on the height of the stand, even on a stepstool i'm armpit deep trying to do maintenance. Running 20 long right now, but since i can just buy a 29 gallon bare and still use all of my same equipment, i think it would be doable since my stand is so low.
    Also I love that all of my favorite aquatics channels collaborated for this

    in the size brackets the best tanks depending how much room you have is a 40 breeder for 3 feet a 75 for 4 feet and a 180 if you have 6. I think John wit KGtropicals is on the right track with a 125 but for a second story it's a bit to big. But with flip aquatics a 480 bigger is better I have an 800 and I love it

  • @AlabamaBoiz

  • @jordanwilde9226
    @jordanwilde9226 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    In retrospect I definitely wish I went with a 40g breeder over a 29g for my first aquarium. Granted, I love how my 29g looks after 10 months and it has served me well, but I definitely feel the limitations in footprint and accompanying stocking volume compared to a 40g breeder.
    Edit: Of the tank sizes I own (10g, 29g, 75g), the 75g is unquestionably the best. Great dimensions, excellent stocking options, and very forgiving compared to smaller tanks. The size also makes a great statement piece in a living room.

    • @pjp9383
      @pjp9383 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would love to have gotten a 40 breeder, or 4, for my fish rack. But as a less than handy person, I'm using a pretty standard heavy duty shelving unit, and it just doesn't have the depth available - the shelves are only 18 inches deep. So of the easily available on Craigslist or Kijiji tank sizes, I'm limited to the 30 gallon or so.

    Missing a couple youtubers I like "Secret History Living in Your Aquarium", Lucas Bretz LRB Aquatics, Jadren Aquatics, and Dan's Fish..... I watch most of these youtuber too. Never miss a video here though. 40 breeder is the clear winner, the upside to a 40 breeder is amazing. Easy to clean lots of surface area. I breed mainly. I even down graded most of my 55s to 40 breeders because of the benefits to a 40 breeder. 20 Longs would be number 2.

    For someone else who wants medium sized fish.. 75g
    For smaller fish, 20g Long

    I love my 40 breeder with a 20 long sump.
    The foot print is easy to work with, cleaning the glass, etc etc. Water changes are easy and not an excessive amount. Doesn’t take up a lot of wall space. Not expensive to scape. Not super heavy to move if you move. You could do it by yourself and it will fit in pretty much any car. It’s also not crazy heavy when when running, you can run it on another floor. Really versatile. I will go bigger eventually but won’t get rid of it because it’s fun.
    I think a 75 gallon with a 40b sump
    would be a runner up if cichlids are the goal.

  • @kitcraft9516
    @kitcraft9516 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hum, for a traditional tank my favorite is the 29 gallons. I like it over the 20 long because my favorite plant is Jungle Val. and it is hard to keep up with in a 12 inch tank. For the average person I think the 10 gallon and 55 gallon are the best options. You can walk into just about anywhere and get a full kit. The 10 gallon fits in lots of places and the 55 is a substantial show piece for many people with lots of loadout options.
    Having said that, my favorite "tank" is a 2.5 gallon glass cookie jar. It is low tech with no filter, no light (indirect sunlight and room lighting) and rare water changes. Just top up about every 6-10 days (depends on the season) and I only feed three times a week (snello and the like). Heavy on plants such as Dwarf Sag, Bacopa, Java Moss and Salvinia. Inhabitants are ramshorns and cherry shrimp.
    For an office I like things like the Fluval Betta, Spec III, Ebi etc. Pretty much any 3ish gallon kit tank that looks good.
    So, it just really depends on the situation, for me. It is super interesting to see what everyone chooses and why.

    EASY....40g breeder! If a friend or family member asks me what size is a good size to start, can keep a good amount of livestock, and reasonably affordable...I recommend a 40g breeder. You can get a really nice setup done for ~$150-200ish price range. It's a large enough to keep consistent parameters. Lastly, it's a tank you can grow with as a hobbyist.
    And 50g lowboy is my favorite tank too. :)

    Right on Jason. The series is off to a good start. Love the format. Can't wait for the next one. Nice to see all the fishtubers that I subscribe to in one place. One question: Will all fishtubers post the same video on their channel? or, Do we have to hunt down which fishtuber will be posting the next question in the series?

    What a fun video! It is so interesting to hear everyone’s opinion on the perfect tank size. I enjoyed seeing so many different channels represented. Some I follow now and some new ones to look for.
    Thank you for creating such an enjoyable video.

    Loved this video! Great to learn everyone’s personal favs and why. Since I only have two, a 29 and a 10 gallon, I’m going to have to say both! I love one just as much as the other. Maybe someday I’ll venture on to bigger, we shall see. In the meantime I’ll keep enjoying what you and so many other great fish TH-cam educators are teaching and doing!👍🏼❤️

    Anyone like the 53gallon? I think its like a 40 breeder but taller? It looks amazing when you see it it really stands out

    My favorite tank personally is my 33 long that I have had since Feb 2020. I really like 4 foot tanks and its big enough to keep a decent amount of plants and fish, but without being overwhelming to care for. I also really like the 40 long and 40 breeder. I think in the 30-40 gallon size is kind of the sweet spot IMO.

    Hey, I love this concept and I was glad to see my girl Joanna included! My favorite size is the 75G…I wish I could have one in each room of my house. My next favorite size would be in that 6 to 8 gallon range for my mini scapes.

    What does “footprint” means in this context? I’m not a native speaker

    • @pjp9383
      @pjp9383 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Footprint refers to the amount of space it takes up, i.e. length versus width. So, for example, the popular "20 gallon long" is 30 inches long (from one end to the other) and 12 inches wide (from the front to the back). That is the same footprint as a 29 gallon tank, but a 29g is 18 inches tall, whereas a 20g is only 12 inches tall. If you were putting the tank on a bathroom or kitchen counter, or a sturdy shelving unit, they'll take up the same amount of space, but the 29g will give you extra water volume.

  • @yournumberonepal

    I saw, I think it was a 150 that was 60x24x24 or so that looked nice, though I would probably say 180 at 72x24x24. You can always have small fish in a big tank, but it's really hard to have large fish in a small one. But as far as smaller tanks, like a 10g is so small you might as well move up to a 20, and if you are looking at a 20L then you might as well go to a 29.

    For 1 tank only deff the 75g. Lots you can do in a tank that size, while being practical, frugal, and artistic. Wow I love this video collaboration 🙂👍🏻
